I'm not sure that was an attempted robbery. That looks more like the dad was the target. But it's just a few chaotic seconds, so

An argument over mayonnaise at a Downtown Atlanta Subway ended with one worker dead and another in the hospital.
"Believe it or not, it was about too much mayonnaise on his sandwich," owner Willie Glenn said.
In this argument, police say the customer shot two Subway employees, leaving one woman dead and another rushed to surgery.
"One of the young ladies who was kiled today, her son was in the store. She had a young son that had to witness all of this," he said.
Glenn said the manager on duty returned fire at the suspect, but wasn't able to hit him.

I put this one in weird headlines, but it could fit here as well. Chinese food delivery man shot and killed for not bringing enough duck sauce.

I'm seeing people try and say Highland Park is typical "Chicago".
Highland Park Illinois is where Michael Jordan lived.
It's where 16 Candles, Home Alone, Risky Business, and Ferris Bueller were filmed.
This is not "Chicago".
It's one of the wealthiest towns in America
