What really bothers me about the MSM talking about this is, how little correct info they give, from claiming it would have to be the grandparents who put the birth announcement in the paper for the conspiracy to be true, to Obama put his COLB on the web to counter the birther claims. Was it not put up to counter the rumors about his middle name?

On June 9, 2008, there was a posting on NROnline that said there were some rumors floating around about Obama, rumors that releasing the birth certificate could squelch. Two involved his name, and the third, and least probable, suggested he was born in Kenya. Prior to June 9, the name rumors had actually gotten a fair amount of distribution (mostly thanks to a chain e-mail), but the Kenyan-birth rumor was far less widespread.

This caused a reasonable amount of buzz on the net for a couple of days, and three days later, the birth certificate appeared on the Daily Kos, and subsequently on the Obama site. It stands to reason that while they were likely trying to head off as many rumors as they could, the primary rumor they had in mind involved his name.

After all, the theory that his legal name at birth wasn't 'Barack Obama II' is unsupported, but not out-and-out stupid in the way of a theory that claims his mom flew halfway around the world to give birth in a third-world country and then flew back to the US a week later to fake the necessary documentation to claim he was born in Hawaii. Who would've thought the MOST stupid rumor would be the one to gain the most traction?

Yeah, it could have been so much better.

Fortunately, Liddy was pretty out of it and didn't have much in the way of arguments, and Chris did hit back on the adequacy of the COLB for things like passports. But he completely dropped the ball on the deposition, and on the "two hospitals," and on the military plaintiffs.

And the other guest was no help at all! Couldn't Chris have found someone who was prepared? Hell, almost any one of us could have done better -- and the best of us would have been fabulous.

email to Hardball:

Quote:
Obama’s staff redacted the certificate number:

“The campaign then rushed to release the document, and the rush is responsible for the blacked-out certificate number. Says Shauna: "[We] couldn't get someone on the phone in Hawaii to tell us whether the number represented some secret information, and we erred on the side of blacking it out.”
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008 ... e_usa.html

What the number means: 151 1961 – 010641
“The United States uses a common system of state-issued
birth certificate numbers due to an agreement reached among the states years ago…’”
First digit: always a "1" - shows birth in USA;
Next 2 digits: represents state of birth: "51" is Hawaii;
Next 2-4 digits: represents year of birth: "1961" is born in 1961;
Last 6 digits: state file number, random sequential number.
http://www.amfor.net/ebooks/ultimate.pdf

Short-form IS acceptable. Little League requirements:
http://www.eteamz.com/cad02/files/ProofOfAge.pdf

Some other states that issue the short-form only: Washington, Ohio, Missouri, Arizona for births after 1989.

Step grandmother didn’t make a sworn statement. There is a recording that has been cut off before she clearly says “born in Hawaii” starting at 5:50-8:00:
http://s16v.com/americasright/8167169.wma

A Mombasa birth is ridiculous! Mombasa had no international airport. All foreign flights entered the country at Nairobi (it looks like that is still the case). President Obama’s family all lived near Nairobi – Mombasa was approx. 450 miles away. Ann Obama would have NO reason to be there.

I think so too. It would also help to have it tweaked to fit the situation ... for example, if it's an Orly appearance, they should be prepared for the "2 citizen parents" bit which she's been harping on lately.

I just love (NOT!) how the mainstream media is giving this birther movement so much attention. It's not like there's anything MORE important they should be focusing on (like health care).

Doesn't it seem a little bit weird that MSM wants to focus on this now than health care? [-(

Yes, the certification was posted on Kos June 12. The very next morning, Polarik made his first ever appearance.

LOL ... wouldn't it be fun if health care passed in the background and then the birfers realized they had only themselves to blame?

Wow, talk about a bonus! Embed the video, provide a great public service to the board, and scare the crap out of Justin, too! Yay!

I edited bogus info's post above this one to embed the video. Justin and I have agreed to keep the "video embed BBCodes" to a minimum, but more and more of you seem to be linking to Media Matters videos, so I added a BBCode for embedding them. This one is tricky to use. It's called "mm".

When you watch a Media Matters video, there's a little tab at the bottom right that says "embed". If you click on it, you get a popup with some code.

Example:

<object width="320" height="260"><param name="movie" value="http://cloudfront.mediamatters.org/static/flash/mediaplayer316.swf"></param><param name="flashvars" value="config=http://mediamatters.org/embed/cfg?flv=http://cloudfront.mediamatters.org/static/video/2009/07/22/msnbc-20090722-pigmentation.flv"></param><embed src="http://cloudfront.mediamatters.org/static/flash/mediaplayer316.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="config=http://mediamatters.org/embed/cfg?flv=http://cloudfront.mediamatters.org/static/video/2009/07/22/msnbc-20090722-pigmentation.flv" width="320" height="260"></embed></object>

The key URL is in bold, blue font. Strip the rest of that HTML crap away, leaving ONLY the link that ends in ".flv" and wrap it with "mm" BBCode tags:
Code:
[mm]http://cloudfront.mediamatters.org/static/video/2009/07/22/msnbc-20090722-pigmentation.flv[/mm]

I maintain a complete list of BBCodes and how to use them [linkbtn]HERE,http://www.politijab.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1558[/linkbtn]

I sent the Jon Stewart video Born Identity to my eldest daughter, (age 38) who is not a big fan of Jon, despises Obama, is an avowed Republican/Conservative, BUT NOT A BIRTHER. In fact, until a a short time ago had no idea of the birther "movement," but thinks it's utterly insane.

This was her reply to me:

She looks like an extremely cheap imitation of what Marilyn Monroe might look like today. Well, if people don't think she's crazy after that, it's even crazier that anyone is even following this from the mainstream media.

Very funny.

Has she seen the Mike Castle video? That might help her understand why the concern in spreading to the MSM and why rational Republicans might want to give it some thought.

Now that she's aware of the "issue" she realizes it's hurting the party and how crazy these people are. We have a hard time talking politics, at times, but no problem laughing at the birthers. She's college educated, intelligent, well-spoken, worked as a legal assistant for many years (not so now), she just doesn't like Obama or his policies (she wasn't too keen on McCain either).

Edit: My other two daughters are complete polar opposites of her in their political views...makes for some interesting dinner table discussion at times. ;)

He needs some serious education. Calling an official Hawaii BC a "birth announcement"!

Also, he pulled out that old "can't sign your kid up for Little League" with the BC President Obama provided crap.

Here's what LL says:
http://www.eteamz.com/cad02/files/ProofOfAge.pdf

Interestingly, Obama would have been able to sign up for LL even when he was using the name "Barry Soetoro". Check out the bottom of the last page.

I looked up Texas BCs and you can get either a short or long form there.

How do these nutballs think Hawaii, Washington, Ohio, Missouri and Arizona get enough players when any kid born in their state only has a short form?

Y'know, as much as I loved seeing Chris Matthews get tough with Rep. John Campbell over the House birth certificate bill, there were about 30 seconds in the middle of it that threw me entirely. It's when Matthews argues that the birth certificate bill is similar to the Constitutional Amendment for Presidential term limits.

What? That was so far out of left field, and I disagree with it so fiercely, that I'm not sure what to make of it.

Sometimes things go badly when an anti-Birfer appears on TV. Charles Pierce, of the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine, was invited to an interview on MSNBC about the effect on moderates and independents of Liz Cheney's refusal to say that Obama is eligible to be President. The basic question was whether this is hurting the Republican Party. Pierce turns the interview into an attack on the MSM, not addressing David Schuster's questions and sounding very much like Orly in talking over Schuster. This was not a good day for informing people about the Birthers and how their lunacy is hurting the nation and the sensible part of the Republican Party. The level of anger and contempt from Pierce could have been predicted from his book, Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free.

I didn't think it was bad, Tolland. I don't get MSNBC so I rarely see these programs, and I don't much like shouting hosts/guests, but I thought Pierce made some good points. Liz Cheney is a media-made Republican celebrity who's gotten her leg up to leader just that way. I'd like to see more of these so-called leaders of the Republican Party get called to account on this nonsense, anyhow.

Quote:
Mr. Poe,

You are making a colossal fool of yourself and look like a tin foil hat wearing loony. You are an embarrassment and I intend to see you voted OUT of office.

You should not be making public statements on ANYTHING without researching the facts first.

A certified copy of a birth certificate is a document that is CERTIFIED by the state to contain the true facts of birth. The birth certificate President Obama released is a VALID document and is the ONLY document Hawaii issues. At least four other states only issue the “short-form”: Washington, Ohio, Missouri, and Arizona for births after 1989. Perhaps you should take a look at a few: Washington: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z189 ... /WABC2.jpg
Ohio: http://www.bballcity.com/birth-certificate/

President Obama can’t get a “long form” because Hawaiian vital statistics computers are no longer set up to issue them. The state of Hawaii Department of Health has stated that they only issue the short form and that it is valid for all legal purposes:
http://www.starbulletin.com/columnists/ ... _line.html
http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/sta ... amas-birt/

Your claiming President Obama produced a “birth announcement” is just ludicrous. Birth announcements are not certified by the state.

Your comment about Little League is taken straight from the birther propaganda and is patently FALSE. Little League Acceptable Forms Of Proof Of Birth Date:
http://www.eteamz.com/cad02/files/ProofOfAge.pdf

I do not want a FOOL and LIAR for my congressman!

Sincerely,

Mary Adams

Thanks! That's my trick for writing/calling Senators and Reps who are outside my state or district. :-$

There is a Walmart nearly everywhere, so it works for most places. See, Walmart is good for something. \:D/
