Considering how cozy the birthers and the tax protest people seem to be with the "Oathkeepers", I'd say not many.

My attitude was where were these "oathkeepers" when Bush and Chaney were taking a dump on the US Constitution, running our armed forces to the point of burnout, and using the troops for stage props?? It seems strange they have this sudden "concern" for the Constitution now that Obama is President...........

None of those groups screen their many members, and because they don't screen, it is allot tougher to hold them responsible for something one of their many, many members does. We have already gotten hundreds of emails asking how to join Oath Keepers, and people really want to be members, and are apparrently willing to pay dues. I think it likely we could very quickly have thousands of members. That could both bring in much needed revenue, and also give us some serious political clout and cover. And, as with the other orgs, it is precisely because we would not screen or vett people that we cover our butts (just as I currently have the blog set on open comments, without pre-screening and approval, since I don't have time to read each comment, but will remove any offensive, racist, or threatening comments once I become aware of them).

If we make it a very exclusive, small club of members made up of only those we have screened and vetted, with others being just supporters with no membership status, I think it will really hurt the growth of Oath Keepers and lessen the enthusiasm, And it will mean we forgo the funds that come with many dues paying members.

And if we vett people, now the media, and even a prosecutor, can all the more argue that we own what they do. [...]

This is one of the "lost" posts. On Thursday, I think, Oreilly had the Head Oathkeeper on, and didn't buy the "put Patriots into FEMA camps" paranoia of the Oathkeepers. I saw Mimi posted on this as well, before the darkness fell and PJ went offline.

I posted this awhile ago, but just want to point it out again in light of the Mother Jones article. Stewart Rhodes knows he has loose cannons. He thought about it. And, he decided if he didn't screen people, he couldn't be held liable for their actions.

Peake refused to name that organization and told police he would " kill to defend his country and he was stealing weapons to defend his country."

Remember July4Patriot (Charles Dyer)? Video is a few posts up. The guy with the mask. He was arrested for stolen grenade launcher and child rape. Anyway, the other day he posted:

I will give more details to this story in the morning. I will say however, that the militias involvement in this case is the reason that she was returned today and not after the adjudication hearing.

In the prior stories about him it mentions he was involved in tea party stuff in both Oklahoma (where he was arrested) and in Texas.

Offtopic :

Coincidentally I came across a news article from Nov. 9 of another guy named Charles Dyer in Texas who is charged with sexual assault of a minor. But the oathkeeper's father is "John". Later I saw reference to his stepfather, who may be "John". So, I don't know? Could be just a weird coinkydink I guess.

To refresh your memory, July4Patriot was found not guilty of the grenade launcher thing back in April. He still paypalled for donations for his legal fees for the rape charge.

From April, when he was found not guilty of the weapons charge:

I figured maybe he was cleared of those second charges. But I just went to look, and the trial doesn't start until January:

That article indicates that they have to beef up security at the Courthouse. Sounds like a little town in Tennessee.

From what I've seen, people are congratulating him and some are apologizing for things they may have said. They are reacting to his daughter's release from child welfare (or whatever it's called) into her mother's custody as if the trial has been concluded. That he was found not guilty.

He has a militia forum of his own as well. Different than the one I posted above.

He's still active. I can't see his latest video cuz I'm not on the desktop and I forget my YouTube password. He has over 5,700 followers there.
