Listeme -- have you tried dates for your sugar load? When I was in CA, I found a Farmers Market stand selling a variety of dates. When I got home, I ordered some more. So far, my favorites are honey and Barhi. Very different from the regular dates from the supermarket. [/break1]shieldsdategarden.com]http://www.shieldsdategarden.com

I will look forward to hearing that, RC.Being strict no grains no sugar for the last seven days has resulted in better sleep and feeling more refreshed in the morning, and a loss of 5kg (11lb).

An ounce of single malt Scotch a day is OK, but I've given that up, too. (For Lent/Ramadan/Life.)

If you give whisky up for Ramadan, you could call it Ramanaedram.

This has brought back traumatic memories. Mr Q and I were in Madrin 25 years ago, in a lovely restuarant in the old square, and the locals were all eating what looked like a delicious pasta dish. As a vegetarian, I was delighted to see an option that wasn't a huge hunk of meat with a tiny vegetable accompaniment, so we said we'd have what they were having. Of course it was the speciality of the house, baby eels. Went to bed hungry that night

It's all relative. Look at [/break1]buzzfeed.com/ashleyperez/8-foods-we-eat-in-the-us-that-are-banned-in-other-countries]this list. Is baby eel worse than eating poison?

Not unless the baby eels are dyes and preserved with BHT or something similar. Most of those things should be banned and are found if the large center aisles of the grocery store. The best advice is to shop in the outer and rear aisles where the fresh produce, meats and dairy are usually found and read labels. I spend a lot of time looking up things I find on labels. I want to know the background of the producers and what the company history is. We have a large health food grocery co-op here that survived the hippie era and is a great place to shop. They put up information sheets about many of the products they sell. It was really interesting the research they had done about the eggs they sell and what the conditions were and what kind of food the hens got that laid them. The closer the chickens got to being the old-fashioned way in a big yard with bugs to scratch for, the more expensive the eggs were. As much as possible, I try to stay on a fad-free diet. ;)

Organic Pork, eggs from down the road, fresh lettuce from the garden. It's nice to live in the county. Just got done with the strawberries, marion and raspberrys and now the blackberries are next. The pickling cucumbers from the Wobbly Cart Organic Farm should be in next week.[edit]You just have to avoid the chickens crossing the road on the way here.[/edit]
