Currently, we can only PM 5 people in the same PM. Would it be possible to increase that number?

And, I wanna a vomiting smilie.

Yes, that's possible. Here's the problem I have with it:

Every so often, I get included as one of the 5 people (well, it's really 6 on the circulation list, because everybody can send to 5 others). And everybody just replies, and the replies go to all 6 people, even if it's about something I'm not terribly interested in discussing. A couple of times, I've opened PJ and I have like 32 new messages in my inbox. Which is a pain in the ass.

If I make it so you can PM 10 people, I'll get eleventy-seven PMs in a day. And you'll be crabbing at me on account of I didn't make it 15 or 20. But I'll discuss it with Justin, and maybe bump it up a little.

You're a bad, bad girly. Y'know, anybody can use their own smilies. I keep 87 of them in my Photobucket album, including some warped, obscene, and uber-violent ones. Some of them I've never posted on PJ, out of consideration for your delicate feelings. Well, maybe not YOUR delicate feelings ...

Here are the 15 I sent Justin.

Edit: I figured out how to make links for View new posts | View active topics at the bottom of every page in the forum, but I have to go over it with Justin to implement it. I don't have FTP access to the forum.

Foggy,

Is there a smilie specifically for Birfers? If there isn't, I suggest the mods/PJ members pick one. As in, "Joe Crazy (Birfer smilie) over at Insane Rantings blog, said..."

I can't imagine what a smilie for Birfers would look like ...

The drool? Image

Anyway, I just added another cool BBCode for y'all -- "linkbtn". It makes a button with a web link, and it opens the link in a new window (or tab, depending on your browser settings).

Usage:
You write the name of the button, followed by a comma WITH NO SPACE AFTER THE COMMA, and then put the URL of where you're sending us.

Example:
Code:
[linkbtn]Nitrous Palace,http://www.orlytaitzesq.com/blog1/[/linkbtn]

[linkbtn]Nitrous Palace,http://www.orlytaitzesq.com/blog1/[/linkbtn]

Here's another one:

[linkbtn]Chat Room,http://www.politijab.com/phpBB3/chat/[/linkbtn]

As always, subject to Justin telling me to stick it where the sun don't shine ...

You don't fool me for one minute, Tes. You don't want spellcheck for YOU, you want it for OTHER PEOPLE.

I happen to know for a fack, you spell reel gud. You're dropping a hint. Everybody get the hint?

This browser has a built-in spellchecker that mostly works, and you can add words to its "dictionary".

Foggy,
PJ continues to add new features making the site both easier to navigate and simpler to post information. Some sites have "feature overkill", but not PJ.
Still, have you given any thought to changing PJ into more of a NING-type site, where members can have mini-blogs within the PJ site?
As an example, I'm a member of a [linkbtn]Conservative NING site,http://realusa.ning.com[/linkbtn], which has some very paranoid, Obama hating people on it. But the site does allow member blogs within the site.
Maybe you already consider PJ to be a NING site.

I had asked before about a specific "Birfer smilie". The best I can come up with would be a cross between :^o (liar) and :? (confused). Confused liar, that could be the Birfer smilie.

I'm not sure if the smilie for Federal court clerks who receive Birfer suits should be =)) or [-(

Thanks, Chief Editor. Yeah, for every BBCode I've installed, I've passed on three dozen others.

No, I hadn't thought of that. Don't you people have any life at all?

In all seriousness, there IS a "mod" that could be added to allow users to have blogs. Sadly, it's a mod for Version 2 of phpBB, and Politijab uses Version 3. I'm not sure it's compatible. And installing it is still beyond my abilities. Everything I've done so far is relatively simple ... extra BBCodes, smilies, and a few file edits ... those I can do without taking a risk of screwing something up.

I have my own (unused) phpBB3 forum, which I use as "the sandbox". Everything I've done on Politijab, I did on my own forum first, to test whether and how it works. And I backed up the entire forum first, in case of some horrible accident. I'm being super-duper-extra careful. I hate when PJ is down as much as anyone here, and I don't want to cry myself to sleep at night on account of I messed something up and can't fix it.

A mod is a different animal. Most of them require some SQL operations on the database, and I don't know anything about SQL except what the initials stand for. I do have a book on it, and when I find some time I'll teach myself more, but until I feel comfortable. I'm not taking any risks.

Maybe by the time I teach myself enough to install a mod, the blog mod will be updated so it's compatible with the latest version of phpBB3. And of course, Justin would have to sign off on it.

Things I would find useful:

The functional equivalent of Microsoft's "Undo" button. E.g., when I accidentally wrap "Img" around a URL when I should have wrapped "Imgwidth=."

YouTube-like codes for Google and Quicktime videos.

And as editorkorir has suggested for Chat, smilies with sounds. I know this might not be safe for office use, but speakers can always be muted. In fact, the ability to post an mp3 sound track would be useful, because some YouTube videos are posted solely for their sound tracks and better sound is sometimes available without video.

I think "Undo" may be very hard.

This request is not for a new feature but a change in an existing feature:

Would it be difficult to change the way "View your posts" functions? Now it calls up a list of threads that you have posted. Many of the threads are hundreds long. I would prefer to have a list of my actual posts or a list of posts for X past days instead. Maybe I am missing something on how it works?

Edit: I found exactly what I wanted under the "Members" button at the top right. If you click on your name you get the listing I would prefer to see when you click on the number of posts. I can always just add a shortcut for this but I would vote to change the "View Your Posts" link to work like this one: [linkbtn]View Your Posts,http://www.politijab.com/phpBB3/search.php?author_id=150&sr=posts[/linkbtn]

In Firefox, when I right-click in the message field, I get "Undo" as a menu item.

Errr, perhaps the ability to embed MSNBC videos?
Like Keith or Rachel.

We wish we could. Apparently, NBC uses something in their embed code which doesn't play nice with this forum. We'll have to keep relying on YouTube for this purpose, but thankfully, those look pretty good.
Edit: Also keep in mind that we can continue to link directly to MSNBC's video player... it may not be embedded, but it'll get the clips to people just the same. :)

True dat.

Specifically, the MSNBC videos are embedded using the HTML tag "iframe".

I have been strongly warned by professional phpBB3 experts not to create a BBCode which would allow users to embed <iframe>{video link}</iframe>, as there are some very harmful codes which could be embedded in lieu of an MSNBC video. In other words, someone (and another potential attacker has surfaced since we banned AXJ yesterday) could use the "MSNBC" BBCode to harm the forum.

For this I apologize, but I'm trying to take all reasonable safety precautions. Please don't let that stop anyone from posting links to interesting videos from MSNBC.

No apologies necessary Foggy. iFrame vulnerabilities are quite well known.

My concern is, taking Rachel Maddow or Olberman segments as an example, I can grab them off my TIVO and upload to YouTube. But that's a copyright violation. So normally I just keep them up until the MSNBC vid is available, then delete them.

I've already had one YouTube acct shut down without any notice for alleged copyright problems, don't want to have another one go away.

Feature I'd like to see. Indeed, feature that I *DID* see for about 5 minutes earlier this week and then it disappeared even before my heart stopped racing in excitement.

On each thread, a link to view unread posts. Right now, it's always a two step process.

From Board Index, or View New Posts, click on thread. On thread, click on "view unread." This is an "extra step"/processing (and, i'd think, taking up SOMETHING in PJ's system), and is especially unwieldy when viewing threads from phone/iphone - which I do a lot. If could put the "view unread" right after the heading, then people could click directly there.

Does that make any sense?

That option already exists, though I'm wondering if you could tell from your phone.

When you pull up the "View New Posts" screen, each thread has a small file icon just to the left of the thread's title. That does exactly what you're looking for. Look again and see if it's hiding from you in plain sight. You're truly a superhero if you've survived this long on this site without using that. :)

I think so. You're talking about the link at the top of the posts (next to the page numbers) that says:
"First unread post"

And you want me to move it to be listed next to the thread title on the Index pages or the View New Posts search page. Right?

But I'm not really a programmer. That would take somebody with more skill than I have. Sorry.

oh my goodness - I had NO idea.
Just in case any others were so ... oblivious, here it is!

So - I guess what I saw was when PJ was creaking from so many users, and showing text rather than icons.

WOWOWOWO I'm SOOOO happy - THANK YOU

You are welcome... and you are correct, while the site was having its flash of notoriety last week, the icons were having difficulty loading and the actual text appeared instead. You weren't going crazy. ;)

One idea. Rename this to "New features you'd like to see implemented on The Fogbow."

Also, this is more a wet dream than a real suggestion, but it would be nice not only to be able to killfile idiots by adding them as "foes," but to be able to also ignore any responses to them.
