Reporters credit the band for figuring who tonight's surprise guest speaker after they began rehearsing the score for "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly".

That's nice. An Italian spaghetti western theme will set the stage for tonight's finale. Now thatsa Americana.
This is a hammy movie directed by an Italian, stuffed with exaggerated racist stereotypes, and filmed in Spain using fascists soldiers as extras. It's really patriotic.

Auto Czar To Paul Ryan: Government Doesn’t Decide Which Plants Stay Open

Benjy Sarlin August 30, 2012, 5:14 PM

TAMPA, Fla. — Steve Rattner, who oversaw the Obama administration’s auto rescue, told TPM Thursday that Paul Ryan personally lobbied him in 2009 to intervene to reopen the Janesville, Wis., plant he cited in his convention speech on Wednesday.

Rattner recalled telling him the same thing he had told other lawmakers with similar requests: The White House left those decisions to the car companies.

“We did not get involved with individual plant decisions in the auto task force,” Rattner said in an interview with TPM. “So I find it ironic that Paul Ryan, who thinks the government should stay out of all this, was nonetheless lobbying to change that decision.”

Ryan actually voted for the 2008 auto rescue, breaking with most of his Republican colleagues in the House as well as Mitt Romney. However, he frequently criticizes the Obama administration for “picking winners and losers” in the economy. A spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment on his conversation with Rattner.

http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/ ... hp?ref=fpa

But Ryan did just go on CNN to defend his bullshit claim:

Quote:
Paul Ryan Defends Attacking Obama Over Auto Plant Closed in ‘08
Benjy Sarlin 5:58 PM EDT, Thursday August 30, 2012

Paul Ryan defended his mention of a GM plant in his district that closed in 2008 under President Bushin an interview with CNN, saying it was indicative of Preisdent [sic'] Obama's economy.

"It's still idle," he said. "The point is this is a story of the obama economy. A man running for president in 2008 making all these grand promises and then none of them occurring."

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/e ... auto-plant

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the logical brilliance of the "intellectual leader" of the Republican party.

See Orlylicious' recent post on the Mitt Romney thread. Not only is he planning to invoke the names of those who fought and died for this country, apparently he's going to unite America to keep American jobs in America!!! Oh my, the kidz in the Obama war room must just love this stuff, time to start running those BAIN CAPITAL shipping jobs to China commercials again.

I will say that I don't think it was possible for the RNC to piss off Ron Paul supporters any more unless they led Rep. Paul on stage in full pony-boy rig while Mitt Romney sodomized him with a rolled-up copy of "Atlas Shrugged".

Personally, I think the expectation bar has been set too low for Romney tonight. The best speech he's made in this whole campaign was when he won the nomination. He sounded passionate and engaged, even personable. It had been clear for quite a while that he would win, so he'd had a lot of time to practice and perfect it. The same situation holds here. I, for one, will not be surprised if he acquits himself very well and I think the impact will be even greater because the advance consensus is that he won't.

Yeah, I'd be watching something else if I was over there.

For example, from Dailykos

Quote:
6:10 PM PT: Romneyland seems to be under the impression that people who are not partisans are watching right now. Reality check: there's two NFL games on TV right now in my area. People aren't watching this stuff. Viewership for Ryan was 17 million lower than for Sarah Palin in 2008. Say what you want about Sarah Palin, she was a draw. These guys are a snore.

Clint Eastwood's presentation was just lame. It was mostly bad jokes pretending he was talking to an empty chair. If he only knew how effective an empty chair can be. ;)

He didn't have anything much to say about Romney except maybe it was time to have a businessman try his hand at solving the problems. Why did it always have to be a lawyer? Did he not know that Romney was also a law school graduate? Did he forget it was a businessman who got us into out present mess?

Of course it ended with him saying 'Go ahead' and having the crowd yell Make my day!' Such a thrill.

Rubio's speech weighed down by cliches and platitudes and never once rose above with anything memorable or remarkable. I just kept yelling at him with the way his view of exceptionalism is so disrespectful of all the hard-working and decent people in the rest of world.

Now Romney's finally up. Bleech!

No, but Romney messed up on his recent presidential history. He left out GHW Bush as one-term presidents who ran for a second term. Of course, he added Obama as one.

Dull as dirt. Every phoney baloney line is in his speech that we have heard hundreds of time. As hard as he was schooled for his speech, there was an absence of heart or authenticity or anything to hang onto. He tried for a stemwinder at the end but it looked like he was in pain.

I guess Clint didn't learn anything when he filmed "Gran Torino".

Has there been a more dishonest set of speeches given at a major political event?

I thought The Troll drove the goppers to the nadir of lying in 2004, but good gawd, that was three days of outright, public, and enjoyed lying the likes that I've never seen in my 50 years.
