The DOH webpage from Hawaii is overloaded.....I wonder why. Problem - I can't get into it and I know there isn't much you can do but wait until the screeching and gnashing of teeth is finished.

Well, as much as I enjoyed the Artodia Elegance Black, I finally had to let it go. I understand that the software doesn't allow adequate flexibility to make colors and highlights visible in various style schemes, at least not without an advanced degree and I appreciate all Foogy's done to make it happen in spite of that. The worst place dealing with it was on my droid phone where highlighting text with the "mouse" in order to read it was virtually impossible and my only option seemed to be to enlarge the hell out of every highlight, sekrit and other non-standard texting in order to read the low-contrast type. But eventually, the work to make each instance readable just became too much hassel. So I'm back to prosilver Special Edition.

Maybe someday, we'll have the technology...

uh, y'all do realize that every time someone posts in this thread it shows as having new posts all over the board, that you have to clear every instance to make it go away, and even then it sometimes doesn't? Also, too, when I click the little new button it takes me back anywhere from a week to two weeks ago showing not only stuff I've already seen, but stuff I already posted, as new content?

The "Please Report Problems Here" thread is borked. FUBARed, SNAFUed, it is non dietcoke mentos, it may be pinin' for the fjords, I dunno. That's a problem. I reports it to you.

Nuh, uh. [-( =;

I fixeded that already. The problem isn't the thread, it's the damned Announcements forum. You're right. It's borked.

So I moved the thread.

Edit: I'm asking phpBB support why that happens. On the bright side, while poring over the many, many options available to me in the Admin Control Panel, I ran across this:

Quote:
Show user’s activity:
Displays active topic/forum in user profiles and user control panel. It is recommended to disable this on boards with more than one million posts.

We only haz a third of a meelyon posts. We can prob'ly make it till President Franken gets inaugurated in Jan. 2017 ... :-bd

My gut feeling is that it has something to do with the access path to the forum. Announcements are spliced into all (most?) other forums at the top. Apart from this feeling deep inward, im am sorry to say, I have no suggestion.

That's a different thing. Those are in every forum at the top because I marked them as "Global announcements".

There are four types of threads:

  • Global announcements
  • Announcements
  • Stickies
  • Standard thread

All threads have to be one of those. But this is a problem with a forum, not a thread. It's not mandatory that I even have a forum called Announcements. But even if I change it to "Things you need to know," it's a problem with the whole forum. This thread is a Global Announcement, but it's not in the Announcements forum any more: It's in Questions and Suggestions. Sometimes it shows that it's in Introduce Yourself. I passed that on to the support team.

The phpBB support team is very responsive. I'm sure I'll get some kind of answer today.

I just got Tardised back to June 30th. Luckily someone parked the DeLorean there so now I'm back. Will check in a few times to see if one of us needs a ride from then back to now.

I have a problem, and my problem has a name: Mayor Boris Johnson. Despite two reboots, whenever I am in Firefox and signed on to TFB, the clip of the good Mayor at the Hyde Park rally starts playing at unpredictable intervals. Task Manager denies that any "player" is running. This happens when I am somewhere in TFB in which the Mayor has yet to appear. Norton finds nothing suspicious. Weird?

I may have to talk to Boris and ask him nicely to stop speaking through my computer. I know his speech by heart now.

Is it in another tab somewhere with it inside? Try closing all of your tabs (and all instances of Firefox you may have running), and then restarting Firefox.

I have done that as well as rebooted twice. However, I think that I may have caught the suspect. Perhaps it is the scrolling Twitter on the home page, which is open separately. Is that possible? Can a Tweet come through armed to play itself? I don't want to have to watch a stream of Tweets, all now reporting that Romney said "I am a guy from Great Britain".

It seems that I do not have the icons on the Active page/View New Posts or the View my posts.

The shortcuts to the last known new message in a thread are missing. As is the icons for delete and edit message. The Last Post icon is missing along with the big icon on the left of each subject.

Rolling over with mouse gets me edit/delete my post and I can post. However there is not an address for whatever script the icon contained when ya click on it.

ProSilver SE - Waterfox (Firefox optimized for 64 bit systems) Running Win7.

OK, that's weird. But here's the thing:

  • If a problem with the forum is happening for just one person, it's not a problem with the forum.

  • If there's a problem with the forum, then everybody gets the same problem.

I haven't tinkered with anything in the files or the database in weeks. I looked at the files, and we haven't been hacked. My database backup program optimizes every table in the database before it starts making a backup.

Wish I could offer more help. Possibly a problem with Flash?
