My email address is what it's always been, so I don't have to change it. I think. :-?

Ugh. Threads that have new posts now have an ugly, hard to see little whatever-it-is icon now instead of the "New" icon in yellow. Please tell me this wasn't intentional. :P

In which board style, Bill?

Edit: Never mind. Fixed it already.

I've been getting a LOT of Adobe Flash errors. It's not just this site. IMO it's a problem with Flash. If you get a prompt to "report this problem", please do so, maybe they'll fix it.

Good reason to log in. :D :hug:

'Course, it would be 3 hours off if you lived in Callyfornya. The board itself has to be set to a time. In the Administration Control Panel, it's a setting called "Guest timezone". Then when you set your preferences and log in, you're not a guest any more. Now it will show the time you've set in your Preferences.

I suppose I could set it so it would be an hour off where I live ... ;;) [-( =;

Just for the record, if one person is having a problem and no one else on the forum is having that problem, the ticket gets a lower priority than if 15 people are all suddenly complaining about the same problem. 'Cuz, y'know, that generally means it's something on your end, not mine.

I had some problems with Flash myself last week. It doesn't like Firefox 13, among other things. It took me quite some time to be able to view YouTubes on the forum again, but I eventuably tracked it down and fixted it, but I forget how, so I can't help others too much with it. I remember I did it by googling "flash not working in firefox". So there's your starting point.

There is an (another) update to flash....

I googled the problem, and found this link:
http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fla ... flash-11-3

It refers to Firefox (which is what I use; I also use Realplayer which I think is related to the problem), but the directions to installing an older version of Flash should work. I dropped back to version 10.3 and I think it's fixed the problems I've been having.

I see that SueDB has posted that there's a new update to Flash but I think I'm going to wait a while this time before I update.

Real Player had to be disabled before Firefox would have Flash come back and work right. I spent a lot of last weekend trying to figure it out.

My problem shows up on the other computer, using IE8. Don't know if it is coincidence or what, but it started at the same time the new chat thing was installed.

The last couple of times I posted over the past two hours, I get this message.

"Fatal error: The file ./styles/prosilver_se/template/bbcode.html is missing. in /home/wlbryan/public_html/forum/includes/bbcode.php on line 166"

The post is completed but I get that crash error. :cry:

This is minor and I don't even expect you to address it, but you might want to know that in Artodia Elegance the little arrows that whizz you back up to the top don't go all the way...oh, I just maybe figured it out.

When the announcement box is up it doesn't go all the way to the toolbar automatically because the announcement box is in the way.

Never mind. :D

Finally, something I can fix. And did fix, I think.

Yeah, the announcements thingy is too big. It's in the way when you're doing mobile computing too. Let me poke around and see how to shrink it some. Like I said, for now it's just so you can see what it will be like when I use it in the future.

Must be coincidence. The new chat doesn't have any new scripts or Flash or anything. It uses mostly files that have been in existence here a long time. I've joined the support forum for that chat thingy, and they don't report any Flash problems.

Hello Foggy, two items I am not happy with:

New mini-chat: I don't seem to be able to set options, eg the now 3 second refresh rate is a nuissance on mobile devices. Is it possible to make the mini-chat disappear as being part of a subscibable forum?

New announcement: is it possible to make it go away once acknowleged until new content is shown?

I changed the refresh rate to 15 seconds. I can raise it as high as 60 seconds.

As far as making it disappear, it should only appear in two places: the Board Index page, and the Mini-Chat page. On any other page in the forum, it shouldn't appear at all. I can remove it from the Board Index page, and leave it only on the Mini-Chat page. There's a link at the top of every page now to open the Mini-Chat page.

Y'know, I appreciate y'all's faith in me. ;;)

Sadly, I'm not really a programmer. I'll ask the developer if he can do something for me. He seems to work only if interested in a challenge, and this might be one. I don't even know if it's possible, but I'll ask.
Edit: Visited the support site. They're working on this, believe it or not. They have a temporary solution, but it's tricky. I'll need to do another complete backup before I try it; this one comes with warnings and so forth. But I like it: once you've seen an Announcement, you shouldn't see it again until there's a new one.

Also, they have a feature where you can only see a few words of the announcement, and then there's a link to read the rest of it.

Just so you know my thought process, here are a few occasions in the past when I could have used this Announcement thingy to good effect:

  • the day we lost our beautiful, beautiful friend, elliewyatt :((
  • the day we raised $425 for flowers for the ladies in the Monroe County courthouse;
  • days when (due to high volume) I turn off the AJAX chat and redirect to the Alternative Chat on BirtherDebunkers.net;
  • for maintenance alerts and any other time when Fogbow might be offline, and for new features to the forum;
  • NOT the Supreme Court decision on the healthcare law (you'd learn that on radio or Tee Vee or by talking on the phone);
  • NOT the day Gabby Giffords was shot (same reason).

In other words, I will restrict it ONLY to things having to do with Fogbow and its members, and ONLY if the information is something you should all know ASAP. And I'll keep it to one line, like it is right now, so it doesn't eat the page.

I had that happen earlier and I thought it was the new Chrome app I was trying. It looks ok now.

Received while posting to the Lakin thread. New post (no links to other posts) using Waterfox 13. The post went through (it "posted" - I checked), but I received a white page with the above error on it.

Received in Wallyworld, responding to the hot rack post by birthercontrol.

Fatal error: The file ./styles/art_elegance_black/template/bbcode.html is missing. in /home/wlbryan/public_html/forum/includes/bbcode.php on line 166

I backed up and reposted, which worked fine except there were two versions of my response so the first one obviously got through. Quickly deleted the second version so no permanent damage.

As noted in the error, was using art_elegance_black. A very good style except still hoping one day to see view new topics at bottom of thread page.
Edit: Hah! Same error came up when posting this notice:

Fatal error: The file ./styles/art_elegance_black/template/bbcode.html is missing. in /home/wlbryan/public_html/forum/includes/bbcode.php on line 166

Fixted both of those. These are styles "based on" Prosilver, they just take a little fiddling. Thanks for keeping me apprised.

I'm working on it. The support for styles is up to the creator of the style. I wrote a very informative post about what I need, and the guy has answered three other people but not me. Lemme bump it up and see if I can get some guidance. I can change the links at the bottom of any other style, but this one has me baffled.
