*Sits at the desk depressed, watching the meat salesman trundle in box after box of new recruit paperwork and just sighs*

I'm never going to get caught up at this rate.

The birfers are famous for their frivolous cases but here's one that ranks right up there.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c ... 848D64.DTL

I hope there is a follow up story saying this case was thrown out.

Jez, Boss has just yesterday eliminated the requirement that everything be in triplicate, per the Reduction of Paperwork Act. You can throw out 1/3 of the boxes!

These are just the originals... not the triplicate copies. :((

So, I listened to Stephanie Miller's talk show this morning but only caught the last 5minutes. Steph and the Mooks have recently started broadcasting on CurrentTV.

I missed what led up to Obly posting on her virus infested "website" that her FM's should attack Stephanie:

Quote:
CALL STEPHANIE MILLER SHOW, LET HE KNOW THAT RESPECT NEEDS TO BE EARNED. SHE DESERVES ZERO RESPECT FOR BEING AN OBAMA LACKEY INSTEAD OF A RESPECTABLE JOURNALIST”

First, she's not a journalist.
Second, she's not a he
Third, Steph does a pretty good impression of "Let me Feeneesh", which she laid all over the airwaves this morning.
Fourth, Steph is a comedian and recognizes comedy gold when she sees it. Alinsky might be her middle name.

The Mooks and Steph were most entertaining! ;;)

Yeah, I was pulling for her to get Imus' old MSNBC slot, before it was given to Joe "Intern? What Intern?" Scarborough.

Crap, I forgot the tissues. ;)

Thanks, Britty. Number 8, the woman who left a $20 tip because the server minded her of her dead son, started the faucet.

I've been thinking about a variation on this. It seems I'm seeing more and more (in blog comment threads, mostly) arguments for some specie of tinfoilhattery in something like the following form:
Quote:
Just enter 'Obama eats grilled kittens' [or whatever] in your browser and YOU'LL SEE!

I find it sort of scary, that there appear to be so many people who consider the browser window itself some kind of infallible oracle. As if the simple fact that the keywords actually produce a result (rather than coming back with 'no match') somehow proves it's true (whatever "it" is).

:(

I'm lucky to have a husband who reminds me to breathe once in a while. "Look up. There are all kinds of normal people out here."

And the Bloomberg poll restores faith, too also too.

All we need to finish off these idiots is a chain email that the face of Jesus will appear to them on the bottom of their pool if they just go down there and suck on it long enough.

Oh, wait. None of them actually have one.

I'm sure we can come up with something similar, though.

Okay, here goes. Over in the Orly makes the news thread I mentioned that since I got laid off I've been spending an hour or two every morning gardening. It helps relieve the stress of job hunting and being unemployed.

As of late though my battle with the gophers has intensified to the point where I go out in the garden in the morning and start ranting about the loss of my heirloom tomatoes and my Persian cucumbers and so on. The cursing and yelling has my neighbors fearing that I may snap and go all Bill Murray on the gophers and start blowing up my back yard.

So my question is: Has anyone here successfully engaged these garden terrorists and won? Any recommendations or tips? I've tried planting in buried chicken wire baskets to protect emerging roots. I've tried sticking noise making windmills around my plants, which the gophers ignore and the neighbors hate. And on and on and on.

Anyone have any ideas? Or at least some amusing anecdote to let me others are sharing my frustration?

The only thing that comes to mind that I haven't tried, is to invite Orly over to explain to the gophers why she thinks our president ineligible of hold office. I was however trying to avoid using cruel or deadly force. Hearing Orly shriek might either cause rodent insanity, or even a cerebral hemorrhage and I damned sure don't want PETA on my ass.

Borrow someone's terrier or any other dog that likes to hunt small mammals hiding in holes. My former dog would have gotten rid of all of them in a very short time. He was obsessive about hunting gophers.

My simple answer - get a dog from the shelter. The dog will love you, your gardens will be safe, and you will love the dog.

My beloved Gracie kitteh has brought me four this month, deposited lovingly in the bathroom rug. My neighbor is poisoning their holes. I like my approach better.

A terrier, dachshund or other such dog would really be best, but when I was not allowed a dog, the Macabee Gopher Trap worked very well.

Kinda gross, you have to remove the gopher from the trap and dispose of it and one time the gopher wasn't killed outright...
