raw story:

Maher: Conservative disrespect for President Obama is rooted in racism

Quote:
Maher said that the whole controversy is essentially a waste of time. “I would just like to say, the problem with racism is not Gwyneth Paltrow,” he said, “The problem with racism is Matt Drudge.”

snip

Quote:
Drudge’s relevance has declined steeply in recent years and Maher gave us a quick demonstration as to why. A quick tour of some recent cover photos from Drudge’s website revealed “Mike Tyson, looking like he’s going to eat your head,” said Maher, “Oh, yes, Louis Farrakhan, because he’s so relevant now. Oh and Marion Barry, he’s in the news every day also.” It was a depressing parade of glowering, angry-looking African American men, who Drudge appears to feel are the greatest threat facing our society.

The point Maher made is that ultimately, this is the only way a lot of conservatives are capable of seeing the president, and it’s at the root of the blatant disrespect some of them have shown him since he took office. From South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson (R), who shouted “You lie!” at Obama during his first State of the Union address to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) pointing her finger in his face on an airport tarmac to yesterday’s incident wherein a staff member from Tucker Carlson’s blog “The Daily Caller” heckled the president during a Rose Garden signing ceremony, conservatives apparently only respect authority when it’s being wielded by white people.

clip also at mediaite:

Well, so much for the birther claim that President Obama never worked in the private sector. He also spoke in a far less guarded fashion back then. What a wonderfully intelligent person he is.

I don't know where to post this, but hey it's a story all about all of us!

Quote:
Raleigh-based anti-birther website has global reach

RALEIGH -- More than a year after President Barack Obama produced a copy of his birth certificate documenting his arrival on Earth in a Honolulu hospital in 1961, the conspiracy theory persists that his citizenship is bogus, a forgery, a fiction, a liberal plot involving Kenya, Indonesia, Communists and Malcolm X.

So from his North Raleigh home, Bill Bryan keeps up a spirited fight against this line of thinking known as the “birther” movement, piloting what is probably the best-known online counterpunch: The Fogbow.

Nearly two years old, with roughly 300 members worldwide, Bryan’s Fogbow exists to shove a burr under the saddle of birthers and their intractable belief that Obama wasn’t born in the United States, and Bryan provides detailed and wildly funny attacks.

:D 8-)

I took advantage of Trump's birtherizing at the NC GOP State Convention to call my local paper and sell them on exactly what the writer found most intriguing: "my city is ground zero for an international effort aimed at skewering bad ideas that won’t go away".

I'm hoping this will be useful in the near future. It seems, as I said the other day, that the lawyers fighting birtherism have caught on to the debunking info we've been trying to spread, and have a coherent approach that uses past failures against the birthers in a way that highlights the abuse of our court system.

But the MSM hasn't caught on yet. They're still woefully unprepared, most of 'em. Maybe this will help bring them around.

He made up some quotes, but I like them. That "he hasn’t gotten born with birthers yet" should be "bored," of course. And he said our community is only two years old, when we'll be four in January.

But on the whole, I like it. Nobody in the MSM who counts will read the comments.

It was a good article, but I disagree about the MSM reading the comments. I would like to think that any real journalist worth his salt would read the comments. It gives them a broader view of the range of opinions and lets them see the true level of ignorance and insanity involved in the issue. Comments to articles also frequently give real reporters useful links (pretty sure I found Fogbow from a link in a news article) to other information that can be used to inform future stories. I would much prefer to read a piece of journalism that is well-grounded in all aspects of the issue, rather than than a fluff piece with no background.

An MSM outlet with all the information, good, bad and ugly, is more likely to be able to counter the batshit accusations, too.

Dang it, the subhead says "Fogbow.com" not "TheFogbow.com". Grr.

Ah well, cain't have everything. People who google will find us, even though there IS a Fogbow.com that redirects to FogStar.com (and I stumbled across a rock band named Fogbow on Facebook the other day).

Because as you know, journalists are always 100% correct when they write something.

(I believe he was warned about using that fake logo.)

He's indeed a hereditary peer, but he's not allowed to sit or vote in the House of Lords*, which he otherwise spent a fair while pretending (including when he testified to some congressional commitee). He's changed the logo slightly (the chains used to be straight down), presumably to try and get around the warning he recieved about it beeing too close to the House of Lords logo (as can be seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:UKHOL_logo.png )

* A result of the 1999 reform, which Monckton believes is flawed and thus doesn't apply to him. Which doesn't explain why he then, if he was already a voting member, tried to get elected to the House of Lords, recieving exactly zero votes.

Someone (Verbie? Loren?) did a spectacular post saying that the information on the BC was what was important, not the PDF or zerox. I can't find it, and I want to put it on the HPs. HELP!

The mods at the NewsObserver are not being easy on the Corn. She's lost five or six comments, like "Foggy's a commie," "Hawai'i's not a state," etc.

Um, I seem to be missing something here. No comments, no comment section, no button to see a comment section. Was it removed? :-?
