I don't think such a nomination would be valid. It's never been tested, but it would look really bad and be unlikely to be confirmed by the Senate. He could nominate Hillary, though.

Do I get Auntie bonus points for going to an eighth grade graduation today even though it is 2 hours away and I threw my back out? I think all the nephew cares about is getting the "auntie Maru event $100".

Dallasite: I think the more interesting issue with Orly and Twitter is that she is a lunatic with poor impulse control. If she is reading and responding to the tweets herself (she may have a flying monkey doing it), she will certainly at some point send out some tweets that will be the Twitter equivalent of her famous media meltdowns of yore.

Yes there is.
Her following list is at 930 people.

that's what I'm hoping for, Anita. I sharpened a new stick this morning for some serious poking

Thanks. Scrolling through that list, I suspect she is following other "opponents" than the Fogbow.

No Reggie Love, however.

My guess, if I had to, is that this is a mix of Yulia's friends from college, people following Orly who she follows back and those they've identified as opinion makers for the election cycle.

Go read this TBogg post from this morning, and pay attention to the comments.

I swear to doG, I think the unhinged on the left are at least as crazy as those on the right. If the perfect politician fell into their hands, someone who thought just like them, they'd crucify him just because.

Don't get me wrong, there are many things our Ship of State does that I wish it wouldn't. I'm not happy with most of what passes for public policy and public discourse these days, but I'd never shoot my own dick off (metaphorically, cuz, you know...) to spite my face.

I'm a frustrated camper. Screaming assholes on both sides... I'm very afraid something awful will happen this cycle.

Normal surgery takes 20 min., mine took a little over 50 min. :?:

Rumors are swirling that it took three tries to knock me out. Doc told me I'd be semi-conscious, "if you see a bright white light, that's the microscope so look straight at it and you'll make things easier for me."

OK, doc.

But Wifehorn claims they told her I wouldn't stop kicking. They gave me the relax-and-vegetate juice. It didn't work. They doubled the dose. That didn't work either. Finally they gave up and put me completely under.

Moral of the Story:
Don't try knockout drops in my drink at the Myrtle Beach Meetup in October, 'cuz I'm too tough to get knocked out. [-X

I'm glad your surgery went well for you Foghorn!

I'm really hard to put under as well. Last time I had surgery, the anesthesiologist said "count down from 10". It is a little creepy when you get down to those lower numbers and you are still awake! Many years ago I woke up during an in-office jaw procedure; the anesthesia wasn't general anesthesia but enough to put you out while still allowing you to breathing. Surprised out the doc. Had the stupid tape on my eyeballs. I didn't have pain when I woke up, but it was a weird feeling. Ugg.

Are you, or were you once, a redhead? That is a fairly common story for redheads.

Congratulations on getting through it. If you had stayed awake, you might have enjoyed the conversation. When I had a detached retina that had to be reattached with a "buckle," I still remember the surgeon's "Oh, sh*t." I've never had the courage to ask him about that. Besides, he and the anesthesiologist spent much of the operation discussing which model of Lexus they were going to buy.

Well, that explains my experiences!

Thank doG my surgeon never said "Oh, shit".

If the phenomenon exists, it is supposed to be a genetic trait. Why having two copies of a recessive gene that yields redheads would affect susceptibility to anesthesia is beyond me.

The wiki link you provided mentioned that redheads are more sensitive to thermal pain. That makes sense. Northern Europeans, esp Scandinavians aren't programmed to cope with heat well. Our skin and eyes aren't programmed to deal with sunlight either. Those with pale blue or green eye colors are more sensitive to sunlight than those who have more standard blue or green eyes. I can't remember where I read that.

I have read in several sources (can't remember which, but reputable sources) and several docs/nurses have mentioned pain difference issues for redheads. IIRC, one nurse told me you don't have to be a full redhead for the effect. If you have the pale "redhead" skin, freckles, and redish hair, you can show the "redhead" pain differences. I haven't read up on that though. I'm not a true redhead, but I'm close, and was closer when I was younger.

Genetics is fascinating!

I have read several sources that say that redheads experience more pain in childbirth. I'm not sure how that would be measured. Perhaps they are comparing pain levels with epidurals. If redheads are less sensitive to anesthetics, they would need more of the spinal anethsia than non-redheads. Perhaps the pain in childbirth issue is really an anesthetic difference.

Foggy, you should not plan on childbearing anytime soon. Maybe when your hair turns totally grey, but from your avatar, it still looks bright red.

Yeah, I'm holding off a bit longer.

I'm not sure I'm quite mature enough to raise children responsibly ... ;;) :rimshot:

Anesthetic Requirement is Increased in Redheads

Increased sensitivity to thermal pain and reduced subcutaneous lidocaine efficacy in redheads

Melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) is a G protein-coupled, seven transmembrane domain receptor that responds to small peptide hormones, derived from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and belongs to a family of five receptors, MC1R to MC5R. The function of MC1R is best understood in the regulation of pigmentation through its expression in melanocytes. Loss of function mutations in mice and other mammals result in the synthesis exclusively of phaeomelanin, the yellow or red pigment of hair. Humans with reduced-function variants of MC1R have red hair. MC1R mRNA and protein are also expressed in the central nervous system, in the periaqueductal gray matter of the midbrain, an area known to be involved in pain modulation.

That would be a huge benefit if it reduces the long, nested quotes from just above the post.

How does it save me a click? whether I click "Post Reply" or "Quick Reply" I get a box in which to write. After I write, I click "Submit". I must be missing something here, (and since I'm writing in "Quick Reply" I can't even use a confuzzle smiley without another click to get to "Full Editor". )

HAY ESTIVEO!!!!

Knowing how much you just LOVE you some spiders, you should read this from HP:

"Venomous Spiders Invade Indian Town, 2 Dead"

Quote:
An army of venomous spiders invaded a town in India, killing two people -- and scientists still don't know much about the arachnids or where they came from.
Like in a scene from the movie "Arachnophobia," droves of eight-legged pests invaded the town of Sadiya in May, during a Hindu festival. Witnesses said the creepy crawlies latched onto and bit anything that moved or breathed, according to The Times of India.
