The Breitbart folks have branded their series of 'exposes' on Obama, dubbing it "The Vetting." Here's how they described it:

Quote:
From today through Election Day, November 6, 2012, we will vet this president--and his rivals.

We begin with a column Andrew wrote last week in preparation for today’s Big relaunch--a story that should swing the first hammer against the glass wall the mainstream media has built around Barack Obama.

Some of these items will end up spawning their own threads, but I think the series deserves a thread unto itself, if only to collect together what this "vetting" actually turns up. What will the whole effort look like as a whole? Will they turn up anything legitimately surprising? What will they reveal about the rivals? I'll update this top post as they publish new material under the "Vetting" banner.

Too bad nobody but Breitbart fanboys read that site. Preaching to their own choir as it were.

Now come the vetting of Obama repeating family lore of Cherokee ancestry and linking it to similar stories about Warren.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government ... s-No-Proof

One must keep in mind that in many states, it was illegal to be an Indian. There were many who escaped removal by denying their ancestry and there was every reason to try to pass as White or Negro. The census is totally unreliable on the race question. One of my ancestors was listed as different races in different census years and that is not uncommon. Many families destroyed all records that hinted at Native ancestry and kept it a secret from their offspring as best they could. Very few people of the many who have family lore of a Native in their family tree are able to prove it unless the ancestor was 'enrolled' in the 1800's.

Here's an example of a removed tribal group who continued to be persecuted well into the 1900's :

http://winhttp.nsula.edu/regionalfolkli ... Hills.html

Quote:
Years of persecution made the Apalachee wary in their dealings with outsiders. Rather than claiming tribal heritage on legal documents and in public, children were forbidden to talk about their ethnicity and were instructed never to ask about “the land” or the lawsuit once filed against the government. Paper records were periodically destroyed and increasingly in civil and church records, members self-identified as white when they were counted at all.

Before his death in 1956, Oscar Vallery instructed his son to burn all his possessions. “Whenever he died, his son took his kids over there and they built a big fire. He had books and papers, he even had his old Civil War uniforms. He didn’t want . . . people to know who they were” (GB interview, 10 March 1998). The tradition of burning important paper records was a common response to the persecution the Apalachee had endured. When asked if she had documents which might substantiate her heritage, Oscar Vallery’s granddaughter stated, “I burnt everything me and my daddy had. I burnt them when my children were all very young so no one could see them” (EH interview, 21 March 1998). Oscar Vallery was buried near Bayou Camite in the Brossette Cemetery belonging to his wife’s family.

This is the best they can do? Beat on our President for believing family lore confirmed as such by a second cousin who can't stand his politics?

What other heinous things have they exposed so far?

  • His participation in a panel discussion of a play about Saul Alinsky
  • An early (and very nicely done) speech at a protest supporting diversity in faculty hiring
  • A clerical error in a bio written by an editorial assistant 20 years ago
  • A thoughtful argument by Eric Holder on the subject of making gun ownership less "cool"...and, wow...
  • Superfluous proof that the President graduated from Columbia, just like he said he did.

These people are pitiful.

Spoiler alert! the last sentence:

But only a fool thinks that if horrible secrets aren't revealed, then the "vetting" never really happened at all.

Conservatives are still hoping to uncover Barack Obama's deepest, darkest secret.

Roger Ailes spoke at Ohio University yesterday. He said no video, etc., but some tweeted it. :P
Quote:

Fox News President: ‘We Still Don’t Know Anything About Obama’

By Annie-Rose Strasser on May 22, 2012 at 11:46 am

In a guest lecture at Ohio University Monday night, Fox News head Roger Ailes touched on media bias, the Obama administration’s legitimacy, and whether comedian Jon Stewart would be on air without Fox News.

During the event, titled “FOX News: Past, Present and Future,” Ailes argued that US voters still don’t know anything about Barack Obama — a line commonly repeated by conservative commentators and far-right legislators:

“Tiger Woods gets hit with a 4 iron and we know every girlfriend within 12 miles. We still don’t know anything about Obama” #AilesOU

And a new installment today:

Exclusive: The Vetting - Did Obama Have Lower SAT Scores Than George W. Bush?

Notice that the title ends with a question mark.

Because they don't have Obama's SAT score. They have the average SAT score for the 67 transfer students that year. And that average is lower than Dubya's.

(BTW, it amazes me that the average SAT score for an Ivy League school could be that low.)

Notice how the commenters ignore the question mark and just take it as an 'established fact' by BreitbartNews that Obama's SAT was low and lower than GWB's. Is 'vetting' the new term for 'swiftboating?' So, they established he graduated just so they could publish endless questions about how he got in along with grinding down the ultimate achievement.

This is the most ridiculous attack yet.

I guess Breitbart Babies have just gone full tilt stupid, knowing that they will be ignored or mocked for this stuff. Nothing to lose.

One of the problems with this country is that this website still gets traffic.

The media's failure is all the more glaring, given that the forgotten photograph has been in plain view for fifteen years. It appeared on the front page of Chicago's Hyde Park Herald on July 9th, 1997, and was taken by legendary photographer Nancy Campbell Hays.

[...]

Since 2009, the ridicule of Tea Party signs and costumes has been so constant from Obama, the mainstream media, and the left that Glenn Beck encouraged people to stop dressing up so as not to give them an excuse.

It didn't work, though. The NAACP still saw the costumes as part of a disturbing, nationalist impulse:
Quote:
The Revolutionary War-era costumes, the yellow “Don’t tread on me” Gadsden flags from the same era, the earnest recitals of the pledge of allegiance, the over-stated veneration of the Constitution, and the defense of “American exceptionalism” in a world turned towards transnational economies and global institutions: all are signs of the over-arching nationalism that helps define the Tea Party movement.

So, by the NAACP's logic, it would appear that Barack Obama is an over-arching nationalist, and perhaps a racist, antisemitic nativist as well.

In fact, the writing is so silly as to be in Poe's Law territory. So far they are doing a good job of shooting down the 'no one knew who he was' meme since they are pulling out so much evidence of how well known he was to those around him.

The Vetting: Obama Decried 'Spread of Militarism,' Lauded Anti-Selective Service Group at Columbia
Quote:
In late 2008—long after the election—the media revealed a long-forgotten article written by Barack Obama while at Columbia. Obama wrote the March 1983 article, “Breaking the War Mentality,” about two campus groups, Arms Race Alternatives (ARA) and Student Against Militarism (SAM). Ben Smith of Politico (now at Buzzfeed) told readers that Obama’s views reflected the “very conventional campus liberalism of the time.”

Wrong. Smith and the media failed to investigate what the activists at SAM were actually doing: encouraging students to break the law by not registering for the Selective Service and harassing military recruiters.

Obama wrote that SAM “was formed in response to the passage of the registration laws in 1980.” Obama noted that the activists had “fostered awareness and practical action necessary to counter the growing threat of war.” That “awareness” and “practical action” went beyond mere protest, or encouraging students to break the law. SAM also wanted to break the military itself by sapping it of support—as Obama must have known from contemporaneous articles in the Columbia Spectator and from campus politics.

[...]

While Obama did register for the draft in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 4, 1980, far out of sight of his fellow student radicals at Occidental or Columbia, he backed SAM’s program.

One thing I have noticed is the way birthers play phone tag with their own stories. The newest way this is done is that the promotional pamphlet is being discussed as "book jacket."

That's right: it's a photo of Obama with someone who's NOT Bill Ayers.

Given Obama's anti-military views at the time, and given how quickly President Obama has been slashing defense spending and downgrading U.S. military capabilities, it's worth wondering whether he still shares that view, despite many campaign-friendly photo-ops with the troops.

Given what Obama's done to the Al Queda network during his tenure, and how he's done it, it's worth wondering whether the folks at Breitbart have functioning brains.
