I noticed that the price of gas at my local Chevron went up 12 cents a gallon since yesterday so now I has to hoard gas, Iraqi Dinars AND commas? :-k Maybe I should make a list. Who knew that preparing for a post-apocolyptic dystopia could be so labor intensive?

And ours is 22 cents lower than it was less than a week ago. I paid $3.31 yesterday! :D

I heard a news report on the price of gas going up because of the special blend required to meet the state laws. Elsewhere, the price is supposed to keep going down.

I saw a report that our gas price hike on the Left Coast was due to some refinery shutdowns for "maintenance," hence a drop in supply. Just before the summer vacation season? A couple weeks before Memorial Day Weekend?

Well. Isn't that convenient? :-k It be a puzzler how that could happen, fer sure.

I suspect that Chevron (Shell, BP, Valero, et al) has a profit margin demanding some maintenance or sumpin' before the next quarterly report.

I have yet,,, however,, to see any market manipulation,,,, in the global comma supply. But I'm keepin' an eye,,, on Orly.

This problem has been around for quite a while and has long been used to justify higher gasoline prices in some parts of the country. This GAO report speaks to the matter as of 2004: "GASOLINE MARKETS: Special Gasoline Blends Reduce Emissions and Improve Air Quality, but Complicate Supply and Contribute to Higher Prices"

Don't believe it. If a refinery is going down for planned maintenance, they've been building supply for months in anticipation of the downtime. A few weeks ago, there was a story in the news about crude oil tankers being turned away from a west coast refinery because raw materials and finished goods storage was full. Refineries might be down because they're backed up and taking advantage to do some extra maintenance. I wouldn't be surprised if the Calif. formulations weren't raising prices though. The price of gas right here in River City has gone down 45 cents a gallon in the last month. We're at 3.55 with some spikes on weekends.

And to be fair, there was a refinery fire up here in Washington state.
