It is good to hear your little kitten is home safe. Give him an extra hug or too and tell him you love him lots.

I just got back from the dermatologist. I had a "wart*" removed from just under my eye. with the pain killer wearing off and the stitches and bandage puling at my lower eyelid, my eyes are watering constantly.

Poor kitty.

Bunking with cats, inmates learn value of teamwork

Quote:
When Princess Natalie was still a kitten, before she was prison royalty, she was left in a cage with another cat for months. They were fed, given water and not much else.

Natalie became afraid of people and other cats. When she was adopted, she hissed at her owners, made a mess in their home and bit them at every opportunity. They gave up and handed her over to a shelter.

Natalie was scheduled to be put down. But then a program at a minimum-security prison in Washington state presented another option: Hand her over to a pair of inmates.

The six-year-old, long-haired black cat would live in their cell, get outside time daily and learn manners. For Joey Contreras, 28, Natalie's arrival in March was his ticket out of a 40-man dorm and into a two-person cell with a door.

Meow: Vienna's 1st cat cafe opens

Quote:
Would you like a cat with your coffee? If so, Vienna's newest coffee house is the place to go.

Five cats roam freely in "Cafe Neko," ready to be stroked and cuddled—and when they are tired of all the attention, they can disappear into their own space or climb high above the tables, out of reach of the guests.

"Cafe Neko" opened Thursday. Owner Alexander Thuer tells the Austria Press Agency that the idea to combine coffee with cats comes from his Japanese wife, Takako Ishimitsu, who says such establishments are common in Asia—but rare in Europe.

But not all guests are welcome. Dogs, which have entry to most Viennese coffee houses, have to stay outside.

I've been to one in Tokyo. It was fun, although the inns where I stay usually have a few cats to shmooze ...

A couple of decades ago, I wrote a tutorial and "application cookbook" for a particular database management software program. The company wanted me to do a video rental app as an example, but I did "AAA Cat Rentals" instead. Do you think cat rental might be a viable business? I'm well stocked right now ...

You could maybe "rent" cat parts to dogz...

They'd be returned at some point!

"How Have I Lived So Long Without A Monkey?"

The video's caption:

Judy met George while on a sailing trip in the Caribbean. They fell in love, married, and began an active life in Vermont. From the moment Judy discovered she had progressive multiple sclerosis, life for the couple began to change in ways they could have never predicted. By the summer of 2011, Judy had long lost her ability to walk and most of the motion in her upper body. George had become a full time caregiver. This is the story of how Sophie, a capuchin monkey, came to change both of their lives.

Sadly, I had to put my favorite kitty ever to sleep today. She was just a young 'um -- just getting ready to turn 3 next month. What was hard for me, just a week ago today she seemed like her usually self.

I immediately drove to the hospital and one look at my cat convinced that the only choice was to let her die peacefully. Her condition had gone from bad to incredible bad since I brought in the night before. She perked up a little bit when she saw me which broke my heart. I sat with her for a long time telling how much I loved and recounted all the times we shared together. She seemed to take some comfort from my presence which helped a lot. I held her as best I could while the doctor gave her her final injection.

She wandered into my backyard as a half-straved kitten -- so hungry she was trying to eat the birdseed in my feeder. I tell myself that because I took her in, she lived a far longer (and better) life than if I hadn't saved her. I think I gave her a happy 3 years filled with lots of love. That's the only thing that comforts me right now.

Your kitteh was very blessed to have such a loving mama. It pierces the heart when we have to make such a decision. You gave your kitteh a loving, happy and comfortable kitteh life and then a loving, compassionate and gentle death.

Your kitteh had everything she could ever want. I know this loss feels horrible. You did good, and I hope that is of some comfort.

Tolland, I watched a show once about a young man, a quad since a terrible riding accident, who had a service monkey. Both man and monkey were young when they first met. The monkey knew how to operate the hoist that let the boy be most independent -in and out of bed, the bathroom, his wheelchair. He loved TV, that little monkey, and could also operate the remote.

But the thing that moved me most of all was their bond. Several times during the show, you could see the monkey reach out to touch him, unconsciously, like a touchstone. The monkey had a sense of humor, too. He'd place things, sometimes, just out of reach and laugh, then resume his duties. The man would also laugh and blow air at him through a tube, his version of ruffling his fur. The sweetest part was when the monkey would curl up in his lap for a nap. The looks of love that monkey received from his partner... :xo

No Buddy Left Behind: Bringing U.S. Troops’ Dogs and Cats Safely Home from the Combat Zone by Terri Crisp

Quote:
How the love of a stray dog or cat rescued in the combat zone helps U.S. troops deal with the trauma of war, and how one woman risks everything to bring these soldiers’ buddies home.

I think this pushes too many buttons for me to be able to read it.

Sorry folks, these animals can carry unknown diseases that can kill our domestic animals. I own cats and feel the feelings, but I also realize they are NOT human beings. If humans are being risked for "combat pets" we are going down the wrong road. :-k

Eh? Animals are shipped here from most places. We have mechanisms for making them safe to us and our domestic pets. Unless I'm missing something else? What exactly do you mean?

The accessible literature is full of reports about diseases in the animals of Afghanistan and Iraq. Worms seem to be a particular problem.

Terri Crisp's Operation Baghdad Pups is a project of the SPCA International. The Pet Doctor says that they provide veterinary care for these dogs. Maybe one of the reasons that the "rescue" rate is so relatively low is that the disease rate is so high.

Many of the worms found in these dogs are transmissible to humans.

It was in undergraduate Human Parasitology class that I learned about a worm that is transmitted from a husky's saliva to a human's brain. I almost became a Howard Hughes at that point. I was already a temporary vegetarian.

Right. Basenjis that are brought here from Africa are similarly infested. I can't imagine they are less infested than the Afghanistan dogs. There are protocols that must be followed; bitches give ALL of those parasites to their pups, and the pups are too small to be treated for some of the real baddies. Etc. Add to that that a lot of goofballs over here (no offense to anyone) don't "believe" in vaccination protocols and parasite treatments and prefer things like sprinkling diatomaceous earth, and it can be a real nightmare. But there are treatments for these parasites.

I guess I hadn't imagined that this would be a worse situation than basenjis could be.

Offtopic :
Not to be too off topic, but when Desert Storm was over all canvass (tents), fabric, or anything that could not be hard washed with some nasty chemicals (tanks etc) - it was all left in country. It was "given" to the host country as military aid. We left all of the facilities for the medical facilities (combat support hospital field sets etc) there.
They are considered much too contaminated to be brought back into the US. When I came back, the USAF was searching everyone's stuff for anything such as souvenir sand, etc. The flies liked to travel in clouds. Nasty things.

I have two Labs, a little over a year old. They decided to add a rear exit to their house:

The other day the large Chocolate greeted me with a piece of the dog house trim in his mouth...that still had a couple of nails in it. The nails were outside of his mouth, but in his enthusiastic joy that Dad was home, he was basically attacking me with an effective weapon.

But they are sweet...when they are tired.

Thank you for the kind words. It was really a big help for me to read yours (as well as all the other comments of support). It helped just being able to talk about my cat. It really was a shock that she died at such an early age. I really expected that she would be with me a long, long time. I am glad that I make it a point to tell (and show) my cats each and every day that I love them. I know they don't understand but they add so much joy to my life that I feel better letting them know.

I guess this would be a good time to tell all the folks here at Fogbow that I am so glad each and everyone of you is here. Like my cats, you all have added joy and laughter to my life as well as a lot of food for thought. I consider Fogbow as one of the things I'm grateful for as well as Foggy for setting it up and keeping it running smoothly. The only good thing about losing a loved one is that it makes you step back and look at your life a bit and appreciate the good things.
