I thought it was a fish and some squid, but from the catalog and other descriptions, it supposed to be a falcon or some large bird. I like Audubon paintings, but I wouldn't want to wear one.

This is the painting it's based on.

I think he was a truly remarkable man, however the political climate at the time didn't favor anyone as the Republicans had a VP die in the saddle, another VP up on tax evasion, the other VP that wasn't elected by a national vote resulting in the Appointed President Ford. Having Nixon resign was just the capper at the time.

From the Borowitz Report... :D

Romney Pays Surprise Visit to his Money in the Caymans
No Timetable for Withdrawal, Says Presumptive Nominee

Quote:
CAYMAN ISLANDS (The Borowitz Report) – In an uncharacteristically emotional scene for the presumptive GOP nominee, Mitt Romney today paid a surprise visit to his money in the Cayman Islands.

Speaking in a bank vault surrounded by stacks of cash, Mr. Romney praised his money for “the brave work you have done in the never-ending fight for freedom from Federal income tax.”

“Thanks to your hard work, losers around the world are envious of me,” he added. ”For that I salute you.”

[...]

After plunging into the stacks of cash to touch many of the dollar bills individually, Mr. Romney boarded his private jet to pay a surprise visit to Switzerland.

You remember that gay foreign policy advisor Richard Grenell that Romney threw under the bus?
American Family Association spokesman Brian Fischer wrote:
Let me ask you this question, people have raised this question, if Mitt Romney can be pushed around, intimidated, coerced, coopted by a conservative radio talk show host in Middle America, then how is he going to stand up to the Chinese? How is he going to stand up to Putin? How is he going to stand up to North Korea if he can be pushed around by a yokel like me? I don’t think Romney is realizing the doubts that this begins to raise about his leadership.

I don’t think for one minute that Mitt Romney did not want this guy gone; he wanted this guy gone because there was not one word of defense, not a peep, from the Romney camp to defend him. They just went absolutely stone cold silent, they put a bag over Grenell’s head, they even asked him to organize this phone conference and they didn’t even let him speak at the conference that he organized.

I shit you not. This is AFA's Brian Fucking Fischer. I thought this story was maybe from The Onion, but, no! Video at the link, .

Agreed. The MSM keeps touting all of these national polls that show the race to be very close. If you look at the Electoral College Map though, the picture is not as rosy for R-Money.

Romney Silent As Woman Says Obama Should Be Tried For Treason

Quote:
"I do believe he should be tried for treason," she said to applause from the audience.

Romney replied that "I happen to believe that the Constitution was not just brilliant, but that it was inspired, and so was the Declaration of Independence," avoiding the woman's comment.

He then allowed her to clarify what specifically she thought Obama had violated, and the woman proceeded to spout references to Executive Orders, including one that she said involved the Secret Service restricting the rights of citizens to protest.

Romney, who is protected by a detail of Secret Service agents, said "I will be happy to look at what he has done about the Secret Service with respect to protests."

It's not like other GOPers haven't said the same stuff. It's just business as usual.

Guess whos best buds with Mittens

Quote:
“This is not some magic show,” Mr. Gingrich told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “You’re either going to get Barak Obama or Mitt Romney … I believe Mitt Romney will be a dramatically better president for the United States than Barack Obama.”

Mr. Gingrich also took a few shots at President Obama.

“(Romney) needs to draw the contrast with Barack Obama,” he said. “This is a president that talked about hope and change. What are the changes?”

“More Americans lost their jobs since the Great Depression,” he added. “What Obama has succeeded in doing is actually driving people out of the workforce. There is no recovery since World War II that is as weak and lacking in jobs as this one.”

Etcha scetcha.

Rmoney's campaign theme is going to be that President Obama didn't clean up the mess fast enough that Rmoney's Republican buddies and Wall Street compatriots made, and that President Obama was hindered from doing by a Republican majority House and a filibustered Senate.

Do the Republicans think people representing 51% of the electoral vote are that stoopid?

Well you gotta admit, Stern, they've been known to act that way multiple times in past elections. :-?

I don't have a lot of faith that the people are smart enough to put the blame for the recession on the correct people.

After Bush got his 2nd term I gave up believing that the American electorate was well-informed enough to use good judgement.

Notice I didn't say they were stupid. Some are but many are just uninterested in the day to day political news or get their information from sources that deliberately distort the news.

It's a splendid argument, Stern, and I hope the Democrats are able to make it forcibly enough. Elizabeth Warren articulates it well, and the "Forward" video is a good start, but it really has to be hammered home.

Obama campaign response:

Quote:
Today we saw Mitt Romney’s version of leadership: standing by silently as his chief surrogate attacked the President’s family at the event and another supporter alleged that the President should be tried for treason. Time after time in this campaign, Mitt Romney has had the opportunity to show that he has the fortitude to stand up to hateful and over-the-line rhetoric and time after time, he has failed to do so. If this is the ‘leadership’ he has shown on the campaign trail, what can the American people expect of him as commander-in-chief?

Yes.

They do.

And unfortunately, they have often been right.

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.
H. L. Mencken

I have a corollary to Mencken's Conjecture, which is that nobody ever even managed to underestimate the intelligence of the American public at all, much less go broke doing it.

That's eggsackly what the guy from the American Daddy Knows Best and Women Know Their Place Association said about Rmoney when his gay advisor was forced to sack himself because Rmoney was too chicken to do it for him. How can he stand up to Al Queda and the Liberal Juggernaut when he can't even stand for himself?

Haha.
