Sorry you're having so many problems, Ms Daisy.

Do houses back east not have window screens? How do so many bugs and stuff get into your house? :-k

One thing you could do to make yourself feel better is to put some nesting materials out for the poor mama bird who lost her nest.

I hope your luck improves.

Yes, we have screens, but my house is 200 years old and I think it's made of Swiss cheese.

I haven't had a problem with ants in this place, but I did in Santa Cruz.

I used one of those citrus cleaners to kill them and it kept them away. Worked on termites too.

You could probably make some by boiling orange peels.

Day Eight Without Internet

Got the phone/internet modem replaced and the tech got the phone working just fine. But even after an hour with HIS tech support, and a new USB network adapter properly installed, I still can't get online.

Think I'll go see The Avengers again this afternoon. This time at the Sundance Kabuki with the bar inside the theater, since I could use a drink. Especially since Joss Wheadon is a sadistic genius. ;)

HOkay, I’m NOT having very much fun this weekend! (Aside from birfing and parties that is) First there were a gazillion baby black widows and their mom next to my kitchen door. Then we had hornets on the screen porch and in the BATHTUB upstairs. (Same sombitches that stung me on the back of the head last year and it felt like I’d been shot, but this time they died before they could do any stinging!)

I accidentally destroyed a bird nest, (no eggs yet) ripping out a Jasmine vine with a root ball the size of a VW. I felt really bad when the mama bird came back with more twigs and her home was gone. She sat on the edge of the roof starring and then just dropped the twigs and hung her head.

THEN there was a black snake hanging over the doorknob of my kitchen door (and then over the porch rail and hanging into the garden) that fell on my leg when I opened the door and I screamed so loud even my cat came running with the dogs to see WTF was going on. When I went back outside to see where it went the goddamn thing was going straight up the side of my house.

And I just finished driving a Phillips head screwdriver tip into my hand with a drill trying to force out a stuck screw! And it HURTED real bad!

Now I think I’ll go cut some grass and see what the hell else will happen.
It must be the moon.

That's because you live out in a friggin' jungle. Where I live, the wildlife consists of pigeons, squirrels, sports fans, and college students.

I had never heard of that. I just so happened to have bought some really potent citrus cleaner. It was on the expensive side, but after I saw what it did for my girlfriend's 30 year porclean sink -- it made it look almost brand new with lots of shine -- I'll give it a try. Even if it doesn't work, my house will smell good. Thanks

Wow, y'all. And I was feeling sorry for myself having the battle the crowds as Costco.

100 pounds of Maintenance Cat ... 192 cans of cat food ... 8 loaves of La Brea whole grain bread (but no fishes) .... and all that should last about 6 weeks. Maybe.

That's what I was doing last summer when I got stung on the head by that damn European hornet, I was cutting that firewood. We have two fireplace inserts in two of the fireplaces and without them we'd have to mortgage the house to pay the electric bill in winter. But they keep this place like toast. We have 4 heat pumps. We have to have 4 not because this house is very big, but because of the way it was built. Bits added on to the original 4 rooms, (2 up & 2 down) from 3 sides over two centuries. There are 8 exterior doors in this house. :-?

OMG, a few years ago I got stung in the neck by an African hornet. Holy shit, that was a terrifying experience. I hate wasps!

Mine has seven exterior doors (counting sliding doors), and it was built in 1983. AFAIK, there is one door that has never been used because it opens into the space occupied by the clothes washer. Maybe there is a thing about being able to get out quickly?

I also have those hornets. And an Epi-Pen.

Hey I live in a decent mid-size city with no spectacularly exotic flora and fauna around. But over the last six months I have seen on my teeny property (.33 acre): a coil of garter snakes having an orgy on my patio, a screech owl, bats, stray cats and dogs, a baby deer, locusts, a high -rise condo of mourning doves nests on my downspouts, and a coyote. I think I'll donate it as a wildlife preserve to the city when I set up my "estate". :D

Looks like the President snagged another one. The Rmoney folks must hate this stuff:

Quote:
Militant Tied to U.S.S. Cole Bombing Said to Be Killed
By ERIC SCHMITT
Published: May 6, 2012

WASHINGTON — A senior Qaeda militant in Yemen linked to the deadly bombing of an American warship there in 2000 was killed in an airstrike on Sunday, the Yemeni government said, in the latest sign of an escalating American campaign to counter the terrorist threat there.

Yemeni authorities said the militant, Fahd Mohammed Ahmed al-Quso, 37, who has been on the F.B.I.’s Most Wanted list in connection with the bombing of the Navy destroyer Cole that killed 17 sailors in October 2000, died in the strike in Shabwa Province in one of the rugged tribal areas controlled by insurgents.

The Yemen Embassy here in Washington described him as “a leading figure in the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula,” using the affiliate’s full name.

Yet even as Yemeni authorities were announcing Mr. Quso’s death, American officials said they needed a few days to confirm the strike and any casualties. Because so many of Al Qaeda’s senior leaders in Pakistan have been killed or captured, including Osama bin Laden, the Qaeda affiliate in Yemen is considered by American counterterrorism specialists as the one posing the most immediate threat to the United States.

Coincident?

Yesterday I was rummaging around in iTunes, succumbed to purchasing the entire Led Zeppelin collection.

Listened to them all afternoon/evening.

Now I find out it was 75 years ago today that the Hindenburg blew up.

The siege is over!

Mouse got caught last night in one of the traps. Was pretty much the perfect mousetrap slam. The mouse got it right at the base of the skull, probably never knew what hit it. I didn't touch it, just threw it out the back into the trees, trap and all.

Hello bedroom!!

While looking for Orly's references to the Court of Bun-Dogs, I came across a posting from an old friend: Sheikh yer Bu'Tay. That was followed by another familiar poster: Portuguese Revolutionary War Hero - Peter Francisco. Then Martin Pinsky arguing for the installation of a military governor after the devastating findings of the citizens' grand juries are enforced by armed militias.

The quality of Orly's supporters has gone way down since those halcyon days of May 2009.
