If Pres Obama were to win Arizona, I would be very pleasantly surprised (and will credit you for calling it).

At present, I'd settle for Rmoney having to spend time and money in some states that McCain won in 2008. Every appearance made in one of those or campaign dollar spent there can't go elsewhere. I'd much rather see Rmoney defending Arizona, Missouri and Georgia than campaigning in Ohio, Virginia or Florida. Rmoney may be slightly ahead in Indiana (Obama won it in 2008) but it's to Obama's advantage to force Rmoney to spend resources in traditionally Republican friendly states.

Rick Santorum made a lot of ridiculous claims during his campaign and one of them was his stating that American History was not taught in the UC system in California. In fact, each and every one of the UC campuses offer a range of courses in American History including UCSF Medical School. Rachel Maddow challenged him on and other statements that were easy to prove completely untrue. Finally, after repeating the challenge many times, Santorum wrote her a note saying his memory was faulty when he spoke and that UC did teach American History but he had meant to say that they did not offer survey courses in Western Civilization. All it took was a few minutes to pull up the catalogs of the various campuses showing the survey courses in Western Civilization.

Poor Rick just can't seem to get anything right. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#47212903

Speaker Boehner was pounding the lectern violently today upset about Republican policies being called a "War on Women." The Dems were making it all up and there was no basis for it! This temper tantrum just as the House Republicans were voting to pay for the Student Loan renewal to keep lower rates by eliminating a preventive health fund that was primarily for PAP smears and mammograms in preventative cancer screening programs. Also, the same day 31 male Republicans voted Nay on the Violence Against Women Act which was up for renewal. One of the Nays was Senator Rubio who Romney has been trying out as a possible running mate.

The interesting thing for me on the "war on women" slogan (and yes people. its a slogan) is that it shows that what passes for a left in America has begun taking messeging a little bit seriously. Its a short, snappy slogan, 3 words, and its very effetive as the Republicans have basicly backed into it cluelessly. And the Republican bully boy instinct to double down on behaviour they are critisised for is actually hurting them tremendously as people can just go "war on women" on them on a continuing basis, and it hasnt occured to them to play defense as Boehners BS looks like he is trying to change the subject to people.

I mean, think about it. Kerry was a "Flip - flop- er" "Swift Boat - er." Obama is a "socialist" What the Democrats called the Patient protection and affordable care act was called "Obamacare". Bushes waretapping bill was called "the patriot act." Short, snappy, effective. Obama began trying to do this last year by calling his employment bill a jobs bill, much to the resistance of congressional Democrats it has to be said.

Interesting to watch how this plays out.

Easy for you to say... but really stupid.

From The Daily Beast

Romney: ‘Borrow Money From Your Parents’

Quote:
Mitt Romney’s latest business advice might not be the most effective way to win over young voters. At a talk Friday at Ohio’s Otterbein University, the presidential candidate offered his expertise to a room of students, telling them that if they want to start a business or pay for their education, they should just borrow from mom and dad. “Take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business,” he said, citing a friend of his who took out a $20,000 loan from his parents.

If you’re young and you want to start your own business, Mitt Romney’s has some advice from you: Borrow money from your parents. At a “lecture” for students at Otterbein University in Ohio today, Mitt Romney told students that, his friend, Jimmy John, started a business by borrowing $20,000 from his parents at a low interest rate. Romney suggested anyone in the audience could do the same:

This kind of devisiveness, this attack of success, is very different than what we’ve seen in our country’s history. We’ve always encouraged young people: Take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business.

Watch it:

The advice fits right into the characterization that Romney is ‘out of touch’ with regular people. Most students don’t have parents with $20,000 in disposable capital sitting around to give to their kids to start a business.

I was lucky enough to not have to borrow money for my education. My parents are very generous people and my grades are good enough to warrant some scholarship support in undergrad and through grants, TA fellowships and scholarships, I have been able to "earn" money doing my masters. I know how lucky I am to have some financial independence.

Even so most people aren't as fortunate as me but at least I can see that. As a TA I have had to counsel students who balance jobs with a full time school load to help pay for rising tuition and living costs (which hurts them academically). I can't imagine ever saying to them "just borrow $20 000 from your parents."

Yeah, Rmoney is someone who will make great decisions in improving affordability of post-secondary education. I wish I could sentence him to 100 hours of marking appeals where students cry because they are so tired because their boss called them in last minute to do a night shift.

For a second I thought you were saying that to me. ;;)

But yeah, Romney is just hammering the meme that he is a silver spoon blue blood out of the park. The guy cant move now without putting his foot into it. He literally cannot see how what he is saying is completly off the wall for 70% of the people out there.

It would have done the guy good to live in a ghetto for a month with no money to knock some of the shit out of his system.

Obama is going to rip the guy apart. Politicly. Can you imagine the debates???

I wish I had the reference -- maybe someone here can help me remember where it was.

But I remember, several months ago, a survey showed that a staggeringly large percentage of the U.S. population reported that they would be unable to come up with $1000 in an emergency.

This guy just has no idea what life is like in most of the country.

A comment at one of those "borrow from your parents" articles said what a good guy Rmoney is because he served 10 years as an unpaid bishop helping church members.

Funny, but those same type of people criticize President Obama for giving up a good paying job to become a community organizer ... and help people.

Rmoney has always lived in a secure financial bubble and cannot imagine what it is like for someone who does not. His limited life experience is a serious handicap and he doesn't even realize how limited it has been. His 'Just borrow $20,000 from your parents' statement is just the latest evidence of his limitations.

Don't forget, tonight is the White House Correspondent's Dinner! We can be sure the President will be excellent tonight (remember his facile takedown of The Donald last year?). Anyway, MSNBC claims they are going to carry it (or at least the President's bit), and there's always C-SPAN. I've set my DVRs!

C-SPAN coverage starts at 6:30 Eastern. That's coming up pretty soon.

CNN and MSNBC are on much later this evening. With CSPAN's superb directorial expertise (shudder), I'll wait 'til 6:30 PDT for CNN.

Paulistas are counting on the cunning tactics of their shining hope. Despite CBS's estimates that Paul has 52 delegates and Rmoney has 846, they see a brokered convention:

Whiteout Press Romney Nomination in doubt – Brokered Convention likely
Quote:
April 24, 2012. Des Moines. Two networks yesterday, CNBC and MSNBC, broadcast a little known fact – Ron Paul appears to be winning the Republican nomination for President. When the popular Texas Congressman repeatedly assured supporters that the race was about delegates, not beauty contests, he apparently knew what he was talking about. Now, after three more states locked in delegates to the GOP nominating convention – CO, MN and IA – indicators point to a brokered convention with a possible, even probable, Ron Paul victory.

Daily Paul concurs: "Actually, Ron Paul Is Secretly Winning A Lot More Delegates Than You Think"

And something different...
