Hey, hey, hey... Home economics has a long proud tradition. So while most people think of Home Economics as sewing and baking, it's really much much more important in our history. Home Economics was a field founded by a woman, and the first students were smart progressive women. These women were the first trained community organizers. They were feminists. They learned consumer science, nutrition, social justice, gender equality, community sanitation, human development in social settings. Cornell at least now calls the field Human Ecology. It's an interesting field. Follow me to the Fascinating Tangents thread. viewtopic.php?f=58&t=7231&p=371332#p371332

If I'd known I'd be a bachelor till I was 41 practicing a strict sort of serial monogamy, and had thought to plan ahead, I might have taken one or two courses in home ec. I had to teach myself all that stuff by trial and error.

Errors, plural ...

Sen. Tom Coburn admonished for helping former John Ensign aide

The Senate ethics committee admonished Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) Friday for assisting a former Senate aide who was prohibited from lobbying for a period, ending the panel’s three-year investigation into the affairs of former senator John Ensign.

Coburn, once a close friend of Ensign’s, tried to help the Nevada senator throughout 2008 as Ensign’s affair with the wife of a senior staffer threatened to unravel the once-rising star’s career.

Duke Cunningham... LOL

Duke is about to get released from prison, and he want's a gun.He begs the Judge to restore his Second Amendment Right. And he want's to supplement his food. (No GNC Nutrition Center where he's planning on living)

The Judge says he can't cuz it's not in his power, ask the ATF. Oh, and BTW, they can't do anything because you never voted to fund this part of the ATF.

Quote:
In his time in Congress, Cunningham doesn’t appear to have ever gone on-the-record specifically in regards to defunding the ATF gun restoration program, though he did vote for appropriations bills which included the language banning it from being funded. At the time it was passed in 1992, the defunding of the unit was supported mostly by gun control advocates, but there has never been a major effort to give ATF funding to restore the program.

Petard, meet hoist.

BTW, a friend, not a native English speaker, has a sort of mondegreen version of this -- "Hoisted by his own retard" -- which also works in a wonderful way. I'm saving that for when Orly costs some of her FM "co-plaintiffs" some real sanction$$.

Rep. Mike Bost, Republican member of the Illinois General Assembly, contributes to the months-long discussion of pension reform in the State of Illinois. It seems that he did not take the time before the vote to read the 200-page bill, which has been circulating in draft form.

Problem with our GOP members they have over read it or they're illiterate. Bost falls into the latter category.

So who is it who really "pals around with terrorists?"

He later said he felt like an Israelite slave being held in ancient Egypt.

"Let my people go!" he yelled. "They sent me here to vote for them ... but I'm trapped. I'm trapped by rules that have been forced down our throats."

On Thursday, Bost said key legislation is too often forced to a vote without a chance for debate or amendment. Without either, he said, rank-and-file legislators simply vote the way party leaders instruct them.

Quote:
He acknowledged voting in 1995 in favor of the rule used to block debate, which was sponsored by Republicans. Bost now says he didn't fully understand it and called his vote a mistake.

Wonkette June 5, 2012 Boring Old Louisiana GOP Convention Livened By Rioting Paultards
Quote:
Here is the short version of what happened: Ron Paul supporters showed up in force to try to claim most of the contestable delegates at the convention despite their candidate’s fourth place finish in the state’s primary, the Louisiana GOP chairman told them to grow up, and they responded by seceding from the convention, turning their chairs around and starting their own club. Then this ReLOVEutionary got his fingers broke, or something, as he was being arrested:

Quote:
But wait, it’s still raining angry Paultards! Here is Round Two, starring some other guy screaming about his hip being dislocated as he too was arrested. This is his own personal Battle of Thermopylae:

Quote:
And now we will take a moment to appreciate how Ron Paul, alleged human incarnation of the Constitution, has lately abandoned the tyranny of democracy in favor of sending marauding bands of feverish supporters to steal delegates rightfully earned by candidates who managed to win actual elections, just as the Founding Fathers intended, The End.

Birtherism, combined with threatening and insulting imagery from Montana Republicans.

'Montana Republican Convention: GOP Showcases Bullet-Ridden 'Obama' Outhouse'

Quote:
The Montana Republican Party showcased a bullet-ridden outhouse described as the "Obama Presidential Library" at their state convention over the weekend.

Delegates took pictures with the outhouse, which featured what was described as a "fake birth certificate" for Obama in an effort to showcase the birther movement, The Missoulian reported. State Republican Chairman Will Deschamps dismissed the outhouse, which also made sexual references to First Lady Michelle Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, as a "sideshow."

“It’s not something I’m going to agonize over,” Deschamps told The Missoulian. “Some of that stuff is not real good taste. We do have a president of the United States, and we have to honor that.”

San Diego will get Kreep for a judge but it looks like Alabama may have dodged the bullet on this judicial candidate. The question remains as to the legality of the GOP removing his name from the ballot just because he's indicted on unsavory charges.

The comments are interesting, too. It sounds like the Dem judge has support and the GOP's Hunter was already had a bad reputation.

Funding Allegations LINK

Quote:
Washington (CNN) -- Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan, a self-made Florida millionaire, is only in his third term in Congress, but he already is in charge of fundraising for the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, and he sits on the powerful House Ways and Means committee.

But all that could be jeopardized. Federal investigations underway could result in Buchanan serving his next term behind bars.

CNN has confirmed there are no fewer than four congressional and federal investigations into Buchanan's business practices, his campaign finances and his alleged attempt to try to stop a witness from talking...
