HausFrau forgot my birthday last week.

It's what pushed me into Grumpy territory.

We dashed outside just in time to see Discovery going over our neighborhood. No cameras in hand.

Amazing.

No hints. It's been four years in a row. I do not have to be nice about it, not even a little bit. I have every right as a husband to be totally ticked off. :madz2:

On the bright side, it amuses me much more than it pisses me off.

Which is why we're still married, four years after today's date left her headbone for good. :-bd

I'll just make and serve the dinner, and when she asks "What's the special occasion?" the boys will tell her. We discussed it in the car on the way to school.

Fantastic. It was low and near... maybe 1/4 mile away. On one of the Dulles flightpaths we are so familiar with, but if anything lower than the usual flights. Tailed by a NASA trainer.

So cool. Nice to have a thrill like that to fill one's day, every so often.

Looked a lot like this, to us, except a bit closer:

When I was stationed at Kelly AFB in San Antonio in the early 80's, the space shuttles would stop there on their way back to Florida. What was really great is there was a major highway that passed by the airfield ramp area and you really got a great view of the shuttles. The base was also the depot for C-5 maintence. The C-5 is a really, really big aircraft but it seemed dwarfed by the shuttle sitting on top of the 747.

Cardinals wintering threadjack

Yeah I wish we had those here.

I have cardinals at my bird feeder all year round. In the warmer months, it's usually just one pair and their babies when the babies are old enough. It's a whole different story in winter. I've had as many as 16 cardinals at my feeders at the same time. What's really neat is when they sit right outside my patio door just a few feet away from me. It's really great this time of year because the males have shed their old plummage and are now a brilliant red.

Funny thing, until I moved here and started watching the birds in my backyard, I never realized that the female cardinal is more of a drab reddish brown instead of red like the males. Until I saw all the cardinals in the Alabama, I had seen only one cardinal in my life. I'm really surprized at the variety of birds that have shown up in my backyard -- a number that, according to the bird books shouldn't be in this area. The one I remember most is the roadrunner that appeared one winter. It took me a while to figure out what it was because (1) it was must larger that I thought they were and (2) it was squatting down so it was impossible to see it's legs. It was only after it was got ready to leave that it stood up and at that point it looked like the picture in my bird book.

Senate GOP Candidate’s Brother Part Of Secret Service Unit In Prostitution Scandal

The brother of former Secret Service agent and Maryland GOP Senate candidate Daniel Bongino is one of the agents on the team involved in the unfolding scandal at the agency, though Bongino claimed his brother is ”not part of the prostitution investigation.”

“He was on the team that made some bad decisions, :x but multiple witnesses have said he was not a part of the prostitution, ” Bongino told the Huffington Post.

Bongino said on NBC Nightly News last night that the scandal “was devastating to me along with the fraternity of Secret Service brothers out there,” but didn’t mention that his brother was part of the team in Colombia.

it didn't take long for Fox to blame the President for the scandal. Lt. Col Ralph "if the sun rises it's Obama's fault" Peters, said it was "three factors: President Obama running “a morally slopping administration,” Latin American regarded “as the party continent,” and “clearly an incident of poor leadership"
Follow the logic? Obama'encouraged ex agent Bognino's brother to act improperly. #-o

The "Apology" thread has become much like its predecessor, the "Bishop/Hitler/Obama" thread.

I would like to make two observations: First, some Catholics have organized to criticize the hierarchy and decisions of the Roman Catholic Church; VOTF is one example. They are criticizing the structure from the parish level on up. I do not view such criticisms, whether from Catholics or others, as being criticisms of Catholics. They are criticisms of an organization. It is not illegitimate to criticize an organization even if that organization does good works. We have repeatedly seen criticisms of organizations, most recently Invisible Children, Central Asia Institute, Southern Baptist Convention, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and maybe others, as well as the Republican Party, ALEC, AIPAC, the various Tea Parties, and other political entities.

Second, child and adolescent sexual abuse offends one of the deepest of all human values. The Catholic Church is just one institution where such abuse has occurred; it has more often occurred outside any organization. However, this is a problem that lurks around whenever the Catholic church has been mentioned over the last couple of decades; that will be true for quite a while longer. I don't think it can easily be made to go away. Note again that this is not criticism of Catholics; it is criticism of how an institution addressed a problem.
