Here are a few cool things you can do on this forum, by following these simple instructions.

Ignoring Other Users

Follow these simple steps to avoid reading posts by one or more annoying users:

      a. Click "User Control Panel"

      b. Click the tab that says "Friends & Foes"

      c. Click "Manage Foes"

      d. Enter the user name(s) of the person(s) you wish to ignore.

      e. Click the "Submit" button.

Presto change-o! You will not be able to see posts by your foes when reading a topic.

Exception: When you are composing a post, if you scroll down the page to the "Topic Review" section, you will still see posts by your foes there.

Indenting text

There are several reasons you might wish to indent text, including lists, quotes-within-quotes, or just for some sort of odd visual effect you're trying to achieve because you're so incredibly anal.

Simply highlight the text you want indented, and click the "List" button. No, not the "List=" button, the one that just says "List". The other one automatically inserts bullets or numbers before each list item. I'll 'splain you that one in a later post in this thread.

Professional Looking Links

All us Extremely Anal Tech Weenies know, a professional-looking link rocks, and a plain ol' boring URL in your post is just so lame ...

I keep a little text file on my desktop, called, strangely enough, "posting.txt". Here is the code for making a professional looking link, from that file:

    Code:
    [url=LINK][color=blue][u]TEXT[/u][/color][/url]

    Instructions:

    a. Copy and paste that code where you want to create a link.

    b. Where it says "LINK" plug in your link.

    c. Where it says "TEXT" plug in the text you want to show.

Here's a graphic of how it works:

    Image

    Here's an example:

    Code:
    [url=http://www.fogbow.com/forum/][color=blue][u]Fogbow Forum[/u][/color][/url]

When you put that in your post, it looks like this: Fogbow Forum

See how much better that looks than this? http://www.fogbow.com/forum

... and last but not least:

Linking to or reloading a specific post

In every post on this board, there's a tiny white icon of a document, found immediately to the left of the screen name of the person who put up that post, as shown by the red arrow in this screenshot.

    Image

If you make a post and leave it showing on the screen while you run off for a while to pretend like you have a life or something, and when you return to your computer, you'd like to see if there are any posts after yours -- without leaving the thread to search around the board -- you can just click on that tiny icon and it will reload that post, and any posts that follow it.

Even better, if you right-click that tiny icon and click "Copy link location" you can create a link to another user's post, or one of your own.

Using the same technique for making a professional-looking link, here's a link to my first post.

P.S. When you're viewing a forum or the list of active posts, there's an identical tiny white icon of a document in the "Last Post" column, right next to the screen name of person who made the last post. You can click on that one, and go directly to the last post in that thread. Bonus!

Foggy

Great tips. You showed me some things I didn't know about the board.

If you use Firefox there is a neat add in called BBCode that allows you to call up many of the common BB Code commands by right clicking. You can creates some custom items too. I created a custom item with your fancy link code that I can call up by right clicking in the edit window. It also supports HTML code for forums that use HTML commands instead of BB Code. I do not use this add in as much on Politijab since it already has most of the common BB Code tools above the edit window. I am still learning all the neat things you can do with BB Code.

How to fix your profile for Daylight Savings Time:

    1. Go to the User Control Panel.

    2. Click the "Board Preferences" tab.

    3. Check the box that says "Summer Time/DST is in effect"

Carry on.

How to embed a YouTube in your post

On the right side of the page on every YouTube is some code:

Image

Click in the box that says "URL". All the code will be highlighted.

Right-click and choose "copy," then paste it in your post.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhPVXxj7l98

Highlight that and click the "youtube" button to wrap youtube tags around it.

It will look like this before you submit it:
Code:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhPVXxj7l98[/youtube]

I made this one last August at Camp Rockmont, the former Black Mountain College where Bucky Fuller constructed the first geodesic dome ... it's a camp now. At the end, the big guy who jumps on "The Blob" weighs about 350 lbs. ...

Finding your last post ...

Paul Pieniezny wrote:
Sorry if I seem like a hit-and-run user, but I do not have much free time and I always seem to forget where I left my last comment.

This one is easy.

    a. Click "Board Index" anywhere on the forum.

    b. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

    c. Click on your own name. This will take you to your public User Profile.

    d. Click "Search users posts". Your last post will be at the top of the page, with a "Jump to post" link on the bottom right of each post ...

I just noticed the time on my posts was off an hour. I forgot you have to set DST to on manually in Control Panel. #-o

I walked under there the other day to see what all the fuss was about. Don't want to go back.

I, too, also could not figure out how to decontaminate unsubscribe myself.
