Looks like any possibility of Corsi's fist puppet Joe getting someone to try and mock up a "criminal" case against the president just took a serious hit.
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.c ... arpaio.phpIn a Phoenix courtroom filled with fellow lawyers and some of his biggest critics on Tuesday, the former Arizona prosecutor who served for years as Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s right-hand man was stripped of his license to practice law. Well listen to this:
Quote:
During the next year or so, Thomas and Arpaio announced criminal investigations against at least 14 officials, including all five members of the Board of Supervisors, four judges, the county’s top two appointed officials, a high-ranking attorney for the county and two private lawyers.
Thomas and Arpaio filed a major lawsuit against the group, accusing them of corruption and racketeering. Thomas also charged three of them with crimes, warning charges may be coming for the rest. “No one is above the law,” he said at the time.
Soon, however, the cases began to crumble. In some instances, the evidence that was promised by Thomas and Arpaio never materialized.
The latter sentence links to
this 2009 story:
Quote:
Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas this afternoon struggled to explain his decision to charge the county's presiding criminal court judge, Gary Donahoe, with three felony counts --bribery, obstructing a criminal investigation, and hindering prosecution.
But Thomas couldn't offer any evidence to the assembled media scrum that Donahoe actually had accepted a bribe of any sort. Instead, he and Sheriff Joe Arpaio (who stood next to Thomas at the lectern) offered the same vague allegations they have made for nearly a year regarding the county's planned court tower, currently under construction.
In fact, the county attorney said no evidence exists that the veteran judge personally has received anything in the way of a personal financial benefit during the flap over the $347 million construction project.
You know, this *could* be taken as a sign of just how much Arpaio actually
believes in the Birther rhetoric he's preaching. He got the county prosecutor to press charges against fellow local officials based on
no evidence whatsoever. As crappy as Zullo's forgery analysis is, it's still more than they had in this 2009 case. And yet Arpaio seems largely content with letting the Obama investigation be run by Corsi and volunteers, with himself signing the occasional letter or holding a self-serving press conference. Even after almost eight months, he isn't making any substantive investigative moves.
Then again, maybe it would have eventually risen to that. It does seem like Thomas might have been game for a Birther prosecution. Of course, Arpaio can't actually name any suspects, and he's repeatedly insisted that he's not accusing Obama, so one could only speculate as to WHO they could have named as a defendant in a hypothetical case.
