So ... I'm reading along ... a post by raicha, who makes sense when the whole world makes no sense ...

Yeah, I cut off the first sentence. I didn't understand it at first. So I'm reading what she wrote so far, and remembering what I know of California Republican polly ticks, and I'm thinking to myself:

"OK, yeah. These guys are the grownups in the California GOP. She's right, you can't be in CRA unless you have some GOP street cred. There's no way this group will really support Orly. And raicha even knows one of them!"

... and then I read the kicker:
The world has gone completely insane. Conservatives I know have fallen hook line and sinker for the "missing week" of airline arrivals in '61. I've been fighting the madness for three and a half years, and it's getting worse not better.

So you're telling me (not raicha, I mean the world is telling me) that by September, just 5 short months from now:

• Orly will be on the ballot as the GOP opponent to Feinstein,
  
  
• Corsi will have a new book out, a la Unfit for Command and ObamaNation, a last-minute smear job probably called "Cold Case Posse: The Proof that Obama is Ineligible" or some such rot,
  
  
• 40% or more of Republicans will still be telling the pollsters that Obama wasn't born here,
  
  
• Any GOP candidate for Senate or House will be assailed by birthers at any open-to-the-public town hall,
  
  
• WND and American Stinker and all the other birther blogs will be ratcheting up the headlines and,
  
  
• More and more GOP candidates will start pandering to the birthers, just to get votes.

This thing is gonna be a hairball by the end of the summer. It's like watching a balloon being overinflated. You know it's gotta pop sometime.

Yeah, but imagine what will happen if MS and HI declare her a vex lit?

Don't haz a sad Foggy. If the Repubs don't choose to shut down Taitz and other birfers, the GOP will suffer the consequences at the polls.

The GOP may have 40% nut content, but the rest of the populace still has a vote. The crazier it gets, the more the moderates bond to Obama and the Democrats.

My momma is a conservative Republican. Hell, she was once pretty high up in the CRA. Over Easter, she was telling me how scary Santorum is and we were laughing over the lunatics that have vied for the Republican nomination this year. Mom is praying that Mitt clinches the nom and that the convention is not a nutjob parade. But she's more than a little convinced that the convention will be a fiasco of lunacy.

So take heart. The idiots are campaigning against themselves.

I think you are wrong here. My boss is a run of the mill Republican, not too involved, reads the newspaper but not in depth and worries more about getting her kids off to school and then getting to work than about any political issue. She is the only GOP in a work group of eight, and we let her speak her mind, for fun! She has been hearing snippets and was around last April when we all said, "Finally, it's over, it's proven." But that is long forgotten by her; she has been hearing snippets of the birther crap and recently said that it has gone on for so long, obviously, there must be a nugget of truth in it. Therein lies the real problem with this dragging on. These are the regular voters. They have heard it enough, and hear it again, it's in their minds.

There are ya go. One of the 40% of Republicans.

I am not saying they don't exist. I am saying that they will be outnumbered in their own party and by the rest of us in the voting booths.

I think this was a given.

2008 - (pre-election) Lawsuits. End result - failure.
2008 - (post-election) Lawsuits, attempts to corrupt the electoral college and deny certification. End result - failure.
2009 - Citizen "Grand Juries" and lawsuits. End result - failure.
2010 - Lawsuits, Civil Disobedience. End result - failure.
2011 - Birther bills, fake trials, lawsuits. End result - failure.
2012 - (to date) Ballot challenges, "Cold Case Posse", lawsuits. End result so far - failure.

Every attempt that the birthers have made in the past to force Obama out of office and press the "magic reset button" has been a failure. Every confident prediction that he wouldn't be allowed to take office, that he wouldn't complete his first term, that he wouldn't run for a second term, etc, have so far been proven wrong. And the confident predictions that the American public would be so disgusted with Obama that the GOP could run anyone don't seem to be panning out.

And very few if any of the birthers are happy with the GOP's enforced march to mittdom.

So at this point, the birthers are looking at the wreckage of their past attempts. And they're looking at the GOP field and realizing that Obama stands a very strong chance of winning a second term in office. This, in their minds, is simply unacceptable. Bad enough to them that the scary black man tricked people into voting for him the first time, but the second???

I have no doubt in my mind what so ever that Corsi's current actions are part of a very real effort from Farah, GOP dirty trickster Floyd Brown, and others on the far right to try and use the birther lies to "swift boat" Obama. (Bear in mind the fact that one of the reasons why the "swift boating" of Kerry worked has well as it did, other than the large amount of money poured into it, is that Kerry took the high road and tried to ignore it. The Democratic party learned that lesson though).

Yeah, they're going to ramp it up between now and November. I expect more GOP politicians, particularly tea party types who may be realizing their own re-election chances are slim, will be playing flirty birther games as well. The GOP has already shown that they have no interest or desire to be honest or to denounce the birthers, and they've done a very good job of alienating and driving away moderate and sane Republicans as well, leaving the field to the far-right and the teahaddists.

I also suspect very strongly that there's a concerted effort in the far right to amp up the rhetoric between now and November in hopes that they can inspire some nut job to try and assassinate the President.

And should Obama win a second term, I fully expect that there will be a flurry of State and Federal lawsuits starting the day after election day to try and stop the certification of Obamas votes or to try and block the electoral college. I also fully expect there will be a few Congresscritters - particularly tea baggers who may have lost their re-election bids - who will challenge the Electoral College certification in the House. It's too early to say if they'll find a senator to co-sponsor the challenge, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Finally, I expect the rhetoric to get EVEN HIGHER once Obama is sworn into a second term. Because there's a lot of birthers who are dead certain that Obama will find an excuse to cancel the elections in 2016 - and more than a few of them will be calling for coups, armed uprising or assassination as a result.

It's nowhere near over yet.

The only way to make it over is to make association with birfing political death.

These morons need to understand that their career is dead when they pull this shit.

I hope we start with Arpaio.

Maybe it would help to spend some of the campaign money on a large stack of COLB's sent straight from the Doh of Hawai'i to any politician who says he has doubts or hasn't seen proof or spouts birfer curious nonsense and to any journalist of note who says raises 'reasonble doubts.' Link it to the Constitution and the FF & C clause which they have sworn to uphold.

But the most effective push back was the White House Correspondents Dinner where Donald Trump was put in his place with ridicule.
