Come on people now, Moroni's taken our advice and moved her fight to the legislative branch where it belongs. It's Beyond exciting.

It only took her, what three years? I suppose that's longer than it took Orly to learn how to type "/s/" but it's a more complicated concept. Maybe she'll be housebroken in another ten years.

Holy shit! Illinois has a stealth birther law amendment going to subcomittee tomorrow!

This law will prevent naturalized US citizens from running for office.

Not only is the Filing Fee $345, you can't just order a copy 'cause you want another one.

From the application form:

Quote:
2. Basis for application: (Refer to the instructions for additional information.)

a. My certificate is/was lost, stolen or destroyed (attach a copy of the certificate if you have one.) Explain when, where and how.

b. My certificate is mutilated (attach the certificate).

c. My name has been changed (attach the certificate).

d. My certificate or declaration is incorrect (attach the document(s)).

Nothing there about "I need a copy to run for office".

The Executive Subcommittee on Election Law has just 3 members, 2(D)'s and 1(R). Two are attorneys. The (D) chairman is a University of Chicago JD. He probably knows his Constitution. ;) I think this thing might die in the subcommittee.

I think this proposed legislation snuk right past Tinkly Bell Sharon. She's been too busy filing objections and looking for seals on ballot boxes and such stuff.

But now that she's aware of it, she is gonna glom onto it like the antibodies did to Raquel Welch in Fantastic Voyage.

No. She's the force behind this proposed change. Dan Duffy is Sharon's State Sen. and they're both from Barrington so this is no coincidence. I wonder if she dropped her challenge to his candidacy in February provided he would sponsor this birth certificate issue.

Maybe others have different info, but I haven't seen a peep out of her prior to yesterday mentioning anything about this.

And we all know Sharon can't help but let everyone know she's doing something speshul.

I don't know Il procedure but it's already agenda for the full committee next week.

I believe she did mention it in February but can't find the info. Still one doesn't have to be Hercule Poirot to understand this was in the works. I think she commented on it at a DTV meetup at Del Webb in Huntley a few months back. The fact she is testifying to the committee tells me this was set up weeks ago. It can take anywhere from several months to a year before you can sit in front of the committee and present your argument for change. Plus I heard rumbles about this last summer. But maybe the committee set this with Sharon yesterday.

Sharon even got Sally Wiggins, a judicial candidate in McHenry County, to furnish her birth certificate. Sally Wiggins is a 4th generation McHenry County resident! I didn't vote for Wiggins on that premise alone. It made me think she could be a secret birther too.

So there is no way she didn't know anything about it, but maybe the meeting time was a huge surprise. She didn't have transportation or an overnight hotel planned. Maybe this rule was scheduled to die a quick quiet death. I am disappointed to discover Duffy is a birther moron. This rule will never pass the legislature and will kill a few political careers, hopefully his, in the process.

According to their calendar, bills were supposed to be out of committee by Mar 9, and the deadline for the Third Reading is Mar 30. I think there's so many committee hearings scheduled early next week because this is the last chance before their Easter break to send up any bills they've still got hanging around in their subcommittees. After March 30, they're not in session again until April 17. If the subcommittee doesn't recommend the bill, the full committee probably won't vote on it.

Sharon's just posturing for her groupies then by asking for a ride to Springfield. She could easily take Amtrak. There are several trains a day going through Springfield. But NAhhhh. She knows this amendment's going to burn in the circular before 5:30 tonight. She just wants to look like she's making an effort.

I dunno. I'm jus speculating out my backside. Don Harmon's not just the chairman of the Election Law Subcommittee, he's the Chair of the full Executive Committee and the President Pro Tempore of the Illinois Senate, so part of the Democratic Leadership. If he doesn't support the bill, I don't imagine he'd bring it to a vote but I dunno. The full committee's 9(D)'s and 6(R)'s.

Maybe Moroni thinks she can make a bigger splash by screeching and paper-slapping in front of the full committee. A train ride to Springfield would be nice this time of year.

I guess they're hoping to pass the photo id law too. Well Harmon can certainly remind the subcommittee of the unconstitutionality of such a rule. Maybe he'll hand that piece de merdre off to the boys on the Agriculture committee. Maybe they can figure out how to mesh candidates birth certificates, photo ids with transvaginal ultrasounds for cows. ;;)
