Palm Beach police spokesman Fred Hess said the 18-by-18-inch package was delivered late in the afternoon and was X-rayed, as is all mail sent to the Limbaugh home. When Limbaugh’s staff saw what appeared to be wires in the package through the X-ray, they called police. “In Palm Beach, people tend to be very cautious, especially an internationally known person,” Hess said.

The package was mailed by a man in the Wexford suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa., as a “business opportunity” for Limbaugh, Hess said. The man was not immediately identified, but when authorities called him he apologized, Hess said.

The package contained an electronic plaque commemorating the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth, authorities said. No further details about the plaque were immediately available, and Limbaugh sent word through his property manager that the news media would not be allowed to photograph the package. Limbaugh and his wife, Kathryn, were at home throughout the incident.

Why would anyone consider an electronic plaque comemorating the assasination of Abraham Lincoln a viable buisness opportunity?

Police were able to contact the sender who then apologized for sending something that could be construed as being dangerous.

Don't these idiots know that Rush Limbaugh doesn't want worthless chotchkies, he wants drugs!

It is disgusting to imagine, but there probably is a group of people who would want to celebrate Lincoln's assassination. Stormfront would not be alone. I have no idea whether Limbaugh would be among them.

As it turns out, the suspicious package was not a bomb. It was an electronic plaque commemorating John Wilkes Booth’s assassination of Abraham Lincoln. According to The Palm Beach Post, authorities quickly tracked down the sender who apologized for the confusion. He was apparently just trying to forward Limbaugh a business opportunity and had no idea it would cause such a stink.

It seems police are taking the man’s word for it too because they’ve decided not to release his name. Considering what the package turned out to be, that seems about right. Now and again, crazies send along letters to famous people filled with white powder to scare them into thinking they were poisoned. I’m not legal expert, but I’m sure that behavior could be construed as a threat. This fiasco, on the other hand, seems more like a stupid, innocent mistake than anything else.

Here’s to hoping Limbaugh doesn’t another scary business proposition anytime in the near future.
