Charles C. Johnson, writing about why liberals hate Mormons, says
Quote:
How often did we hear, for instance, that Barack Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review, as if that actually mattered? (Conveniently omitted is that his law review is the least cited.)

Is there any truth to this assertion? I know how to do citation counts for ordinary academic literature, but what must be meant here is not just scholarly articles but also briefs and other documents prepared for the courts.

The Harvard Law Review is, simply, the most-cited law review. It's not even close. I doubt there's anyone in legal academia who does not know that.

Most-Cited General Law Reviews

Hard to say, but the Harvard Law Review, in general, is the most cited scholarly legal journal.

Citations to a specific volume depend on many things including the kinds of articles, the legal issues being discussed. It's like saying that the kumquat is the least eaten citrus fruit. That says nothing of quality and doesn't mean it isn't good. It just means that tastes are such that it isn't well known or favored.

The point is -- so what. Becoming President of the Law Review is a singular accomplishment. The still-dead Breitbart and his underachieving acolytes are just jealous.

Edit: Loh -- the claim is that the volume President Obama presided over is least cited.

I think they're just making up bullshit. I seriously doubt they went and counted them.

Prayers and tornadoes

CNN is running videos of today's very serious tornado outbreak, many of them taken by ordinary citizens. In one video, a woman is heard loudly praying that her gawd take the tornado "away from us." She then begins speaking in tongues before speaking English again.

Edit: This is the video that CNN broadcast, augmented by a music sound track that I find perfectly appropriate.

Her gawd controls tornadoes and, I suppose she believes, sends them where the people are not praying loudly enough or strangely enough. Some watchers are sure to believe that she prayed the tornado away from her own house. That is breathtakingly immoral, IMO. On all sides.

Edit: As of 6:00 PM, there have been tornadoes in five states today, contributing to at least 37 deaths. One of Indiana's tornadoes was an EF-4.

The irony of a loving, omnipotent God allowing bad things to happen to other people.

It seems there were at least 37 unbelievers in those areas. Did any of the 5 states pass a gay marriage bill??? Legalized Medical Maryj????

It must have been all the corruption in Indiana's election board found by memememememememe.

There HAS to be some theological explanation besides the usual RWNJ crap about HAARP.

And yes, I do feel for the families of the 37 folks who passed away due to weather. However this is a Hijack thread....

As always, Ron Paul says there should be no financial help for the victims of the tornados from the Feds. Does anyone know anything about tornado insurance in Tornado Alley? How about the governments in these small towns? How are they suppose to cope with this kind of damage to public facilities and infrastructure? Should that all be insured as well?

Well shouldn't it be up to the local government to collect enough money from their residents to pay for the damage???? That way you can keep the feds and their millions of aid away. :D

Apparently, Ohio's Governor Kasich agrees. He says they can handle it themselves, so thanks but no thanks for Federal aid. Maybe later.

Well it is after all only the (early) beginning of tornado season. Best to deplete all the ready funds right away, so if disaster strikes again later, and people are even more weary of it, they'll be that much more pissed off at the Feds for any delay.

What an asshole. He sure doesn't have the general health and welfare of his population as a priority.

OMG I am =)) =)) =))

DH is in the shower right now, we have a clear shower curtain, Ms. Peaches is attacking him through the curtain, it is thin enough that her claws can get through there onto his legs. I can hear the water running and "ow" "ow" "don't do that Ms. Peaches" "Ms. Peaches why are you doing that" "ow" =))

(Sorry, I just find it funny that DH always tells me "I don't know why you say she is insane she is always perfectly nice to me")

Kasich is a dick. What does Johnny care about a town of 250 people on the Ohio River? Yeah, there's nothing left, so they don't need any aid Go to google maps though and look at what's directly north of Moscow, right on the river. It's a coal-fired Cinergy power plant (used to be "nucular") that generates electricity for 600,000 homes in Ohio. I bet Johnny would have jumped for some federal aid right now if that had been damaged.

Damaged/destroyed in the storm was the Fee Villa. The Fees were conductors on the Underground Railroad. The house is right on the river and Fee would put candles in the window to let the escaped slaves know it was safe to cross the river. The candle in the window image is part of the town's logo.

AAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!!! :o

About 9-9:30 this morning a construction crew cut a major Verizon cable in my wee little burg. We lost land-line, cell phones, internet. Bank ATMs no workee. Merchants can NOT has credit/debit card sales. :x

911 didn't work.

Dammit, I was right in the middle of a snarky exchange regarding pulled pork sammiches when teh intertoobz went dark.

Civilization ground to a halt. Gangs of techno-geeks were roaming around in their 1995 Honda Accord Hatchbacks, searching for a hot spot. Telecommuters were seen sobbing, in their bathrobes, near what used to be free wi-fi coffee shops. People, on the whole, were better drivers since they weren't yapping away or texting on their cells as they drove. Pizza shops sent their drivers home, the tax places that only do electronic returns were bereft, Metro PCS and Verizon Mobile stores locked their doors against the pitchfork and torch bearing mobs. :smoking:

The crazy Impeach Obama people were still set up on the sidewalk in front of the post office. They seemed not to notice that their smart phones had been usurped.

Then, about 5:00 PM, they fixeded it and all was once again right with the world.

Lesson learned? I need to add a good generator, stores of gasoline and a shitload of DVDs and games to my earthquake kit or I'll never survive. Also more ammunition.

So I voted today.

I took Ellie in her Republican Red coat. We chose the Republican Ballot. Ellie is a Ron Paul girl, as she hates people and other dogs and just wants to be left alone with her family. She wants Mommy and Daddy to keep all their money so they can buy lots of yummy dog treats, balls, and stuffed animals to shred. She also want to keep bear arms, as she thinks they might be smelly and messy and yummy -- all good things.

I, however, had a quandary. I went expecting to vote for Santorum but I just couldn't do it. Newtie, either.
I originally typed "couldn't stomach it", but I grossed myself out.

So I filled in the circle for Mittens, in hopes my tiny vote encourages the GOP to quit with the nut jobs and go moderate.

W2 missed his first election/primary ever as he's in Las Vegas for the week. He tried to figure out the absentee ballot thing but gave up as he's particularly unenthusiastic about his party (Republican).

Ellie and I WON'T be going to the Romney Primary Night Party, though, so don't look for us on the TV.

I didn't even think of that! I did consider writing W2's name in for one of the races "Choose no more than 35" and there were only 5 listed. I thought better of it.
