So for the past week or so, on this site and this site only, I am having to click the "back" button twice to back out of pages here. Anyone else seeing this? It happens on no other website except FB. :|

I never use back on here; I use active topics so that the active topic indicator works correctly :)

I just tested it, however, and it worked with one click, so I dunno. I'm using safari.

Could be. I use Firefox and do not have that problem here.

It does it consistently for me. I've noticed that I no longer get an ad at the bottom of the pages now, too. I get a "The webpage cannot be found" message at the bottom. Could the two issues be related?

I use IE and, yes, that's the way it works for me all the time.

AFAIK, it's a minor annoyance but I have been wondering WTF? It definitely appears to be specific to this site.

I am in the IE and I have no problems. :D

(On Windows, I use Firefox, and Safari on Mac.)

I've experienced the same for about a week or so.

It absolutely has to do with teh Google ads. Go up to yer <- and -> buttons and click on the pull-down arrow and you'll see that your previous page is something along the lines of googleads(dot)g(dot)doubleclick(dot)net/page. It's pestiferous and annoying and seems to be some sort of tracking cookie from doubleclick that tries to hijack/redirect Google ads. Clear your system of tracking cookies and it should help, but it will be back. It always comes back.

Edit: Edited to break link.

Yes, it is related. Click the back button once and "The webpage cannot be found" message disappears from the bottom of the screen.

The ads got cut off. I don't know why. They weren't generating much anyway.

Google sez:

Quote:
After reviewing our records, we've determined that your AdSense account
poses a risk of generating invalid activity. Because we have a
responsibility to protect our AdWords advertisers from inflated costs due
to invalid activity, we've found it necessary to disable your AdSense
account. Your outstanding balance and Google's share of the revenue will
both be fully refunded back to the affected advertisers.

Please understand that we need to take such steps to maintain the
effectiveness of Google's advertising system, particularly the
advertiser-publisher relationship. We understand the inconvenience that
this may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and
cooperation.

If you have any questions or concerns about the actions we've taken, how
you can appeal this decision, or invalid activity in general, you can find
more information by visiting
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/b ... swer=57153.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team
I was gonna get to that yesterday, but I haven't been feeling well. Maybe today.

As far as the back button, what back button? The one on your browser? I don't see one on the Fogbow pages.

What does that mean?

In IE 9, I have to press the back button twice to go back. Like listeme, though,I normally use "view active topics".

I have no idea. They won't define it. It might be somebody repeatedly clicking my ads just to drive up revenue. That doesn't work. I'm forbidden from clicking my own ads. I guess some people put ads on their site and then pay some other company to drive traffic to the site, which is a no-no.

In any event, I filed the appeal just now. They say they'll get to it within a week or so. More will be revealed.

Still don't know what back button you're referring to. If you use "View active topics" and then use the back button on the browser, it won't show that you read the latest post.

Anyway, that's why I put the link for "View active topics" at the top and bottom of every page on the forum. I assume most of you use that to catch up with the latest ...

i suspect they believe much of the ad click-through from TFB was not legit -- such as intended to boost AdSense revenue for the website vs genuine interest in the advertisements.

Or maybe there is a birther working at Google Ads who is trying starve us of revenue. :((

My opinion of the ads posted were they reflected my past searches. Something I was interested in yesterday. For example, for days I was getting hoodie-footie ads  . Yet, I'd already moved on from hoodie footie. ( Sorry spikie) You'd think Ad Sense would have better sense and try to anticipate what I'd be interested in after hoodie footie (don't go there [-X ), not keep shoving hoodie footie at me.

I see this effect at times with Chrome also. Too.

In my case I have determined it to be a side effect of having some of the ad providers blocked in my firewall software. Chrome then seems to open an extra tab in the background (trying to force a redisplay?). The ads here are the ones Foggy started to have showing up at the bottom of the forum pages.

Since I started to use the AdBlock extension (sorry Foggy) I don't have this happening anymore, cause the code script seems to be snipped before rendering.

I use AdBlockPlus too. Saves me from temptation, not that I was tempted.

Here's a suggestion regarding the back button problem: Watch the address bar.

The URIs aren't really that hard to read. For example, as I'm typing this, my address is:

http://thefogbow.com/forum/posting.php?mode=reply&f=14&t=7264

See, I'm posting in reply mode. This is forum number (f=)14, and topic number (t=)7264. In addition to f=forum and t=topic, there's also p=post number.

The link for Zorba's post above this one is:

http://thefogbow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=7264&p=344711#p344711

No, we don't have 344,000 posts on Fogbow. We left a lot of those behind at PJ, and some posts have been deleted over the years. But you can't reuse a post number, so there have been 344,000 since PJ came online.

Anyway, when you click that back button the first time, watch the address bar and see where it takes you.

I also use AdBlock Plus with IE on this machine. The number of ads blocked is quite large; the unpaid version of AdBlock Plus informs me that the daily limit of 200 blocks has been reached and that I should buy the paid version.

A result is that I also get that "not found" message at the bottom where those annoying Google ads were appearing. As some of them have been completely inappropriate to TFB, I would like to see them vanish. In addition, when TFB "hangs" in loading, the bottom bar usually shows that some ad is loading slowly.

I did a search and found a good deal of complaints in regard to Google messing up the back button. The biggest complaint is against Google itself. It seems their own web pages are plagued with this problem. Google tech support is denying any problem, of course.

If TFB is going to run ads, is there an alternative to Googls Ads?

Yeah. Maybe I should just lose the ads (which means delete some code in four files but nothing strenuous). They really didn't generate much money in any event. They were annoying. I was hoping it would pay for the hosting ($80/month) so I could send all the contribution money to pay for document acquisition.

Didn't work out, and that's life. Moving forward ...
