NH crazies DeLemus and Rappaport introduced HB1164 yesterday and it's been refered to Election Law Committee.

http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2012/HB1164.html

the key parts:

Quote:
a) The candidate shall append to the declaration of candidacy documents that prove that the candidate is a natural born citizen, prove the candidate’s age, and prove that the candidate meets the residency requirements for president of the United States as prescribed in article II, section 1, Constitution of the United States. The documents, which shall be sworn to under penalty of perjury, shall be:

(1) A certified copy of the original long form birth certificate that includes the date and place of birth.

(2) A sworn statement that identifies the candidate’s places of residence in the United States for 14 years.

Oh and effective date 1st Jan 2013.

Chance of passing? - IMO zero.

I only have a tweet from NH State Rep. Jennifer Daler.

I had to look that up. ITL Inexpedient to Legislate. OTP Ought to pass.

Clear as MUD.

Thanks Mimi, I thought they were voting today but couldn't find anything earlier

That's about what I expected - last year a bill got nowhere, year before one was gutted and this year Orly & Co's pissing off of the republican leadership doomed it before it started.

Committee votes down birther bill
14-3 vote suggests House kill proposal
By Matthew Spolar / Monitor staff
February 15, 2012

Deterred by the "circus" surrounding the issue, a requirement that presidential candidates submit certified copies of their birth certificates was panned in the House Election Law Committee yesterday.

House Bill 1164 was sponsored by Republican Reps. Susan DeLemus of Rochester and Larry Rappaport of Colebrook, both of whom signed on to an effort last year to challenge President Obama's placement on the primary ballot because they doubt his Americancitizenship.

DeLemus said her bill does not take effect until January 2013, meaning it is not another attempt to keep Obama off the November ballot. The legislation initially required a certified copy of a candidate's original long-form birth certificate, but DeLemus said an amendment adopted yesterday reduced the requirement to a certified copy of a birth certificate.
...
"If this is to be considered at a future time, it could be considered on the basis of its merits alone and not any association with the controversy we've experienced," said Election Law Chairman David Bates, a Windham Republican, who voted against the bill. "Quite frankly, with the circus that ensued around this more recently it's really impossible to adequately, objectively consider the policy merits of this with the fiasco the press made out of it."

On Feb 14, 2012 the NH House Committee on Election Law voted on HB 1164. During the discussion of whether or not to pass the legislation, the Chairman of the Committee David Bates, blames the media for not being able to take up the legislation this year.

Quote:
Bates told the Election Law Committee today that the bill didn't pass because of the "fiasco press made of it." He currently serves as chairman of that committee.

Zanda Rice Hawkins, who serves as the director of Granite State Progress, criticized Bates' attempt to cast HB 1164 as a policy-oriented bill, calling it "pure horse hockey."

"HB 1164 failed because it is a bad bill and there's been enough attention for everyone to know how it originated," said Hawkins.
