Shooting at Family Research Council HQ

Postby mimi » Wed Aug 15, 2012 12:48 pm

A guard got shot. Not fatal. Do you think we can maybe now talk about gun control?

A security guard at the Family Research Council headquarters in Washington, D.C., was shot in the arm by a gunman who sources said expressed disagreement with the conservative group's policy positions. The guard, who was not identified, was conscious after the shooting and was being treated. The shooting occurred in the Chinatown neighborhood Wednesday morning. The gunman was apprehended and was being questioned by the FBI, sources said. Sources said he is in his twenties and may have been posing as an intern. The suspect "made statements regarding their policies, and then opened fire with a gun striking a security guard," a source told Fox News.Authorities were treating the attack as a case of domestic terrorism.

Sounds like a false flag op......the FRC/AFA, etc, etc, etc are pretty sleezy and feel pretty put upon by normal people....the motivation to do this is quite high....

I'd say it's highly unlikely to be a false flag op. Something like graffiti or property damage might be, but shooting your own security guard and have the suspect apprehended? Not so much. There are nutjobs all across the political and ideological spectrum. I've not seen any report yet as to what his specific "policy" beef was with FRC. Their political agenda? Their hiring/firing polices? What? The injured security guard is in stable condition, so I'm thankful for that.

If they know about it, the folks at drkate's have probably already reached the same conclusion, just as they did with Aurora and the Sikh temple.

Based on the description of the shooter

A photographer who saw the suspect being arrested describes him as a 6-foot-3, 250-pound black male.

I seriously doubt he had any connection at all to the FRC.more [/break1]nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/15/13298020-security-guard-shot-at-conservative-groups-dc-office?lite]http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08 ... ffice?lite

I was responding to the false flag theory floated earlier in the thread that the FRC might have set it up. I told my husband earlier I was guessing it would be related to their stance on same-sex marriage. It was the only thing that seemed to make sense.

There is a suspicion that the shooter has a beef with the Family Research Council about their stance on marriage equality. That does not mean that the shooter is a proponent of marriage equality; that is just the most likely interpretation.

I dont think we need a huge conspiracy to explain a lone nut shooting up a facility he disagrees with, even if the shooter can be called a liberal.
Have you tried the Internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it.

Agreed. This kind of thing is apparently now an acceptable way to show your displeasure with people and ideas you don't agree with, in this country. Makes my heart hurt. :((

I don't know how he self Identifies, but I don't think so. I'm from a family of large mammals. We're all cuacasian or white, if you will. This guy looks like he could be family except there is NO way he's 6'3'' and 250. It's hard to tell in flat photography, obviously, but that guy is maybe 5'9" to 5'11". He's chubby, but not totally out of shape. That said, 6"3" and 250 don't look like that.

There is still no concrete motive known, but it's reported that Corkins was a volunteer at The DC Center for the LGBT Community and was carrying a Chick-fil-A bag at the time of the incident. Just those facts alone suggest he went to FRC to make some kind of statement regarding their policy of demonizing the LGBT community. Why he brought a gun is beyond me. The National Organization for Marriage has wasted no time trying to use the shooting to their benefit.

"Today's attack is the clearest sign we've seen that labeling pro-marriage groups as 'hateful' must end," Brian Brown, the president of the National Organization for Marriage, said in a statement.

That is referring to the Southern Poverty Law Center classifying the Family Research Council as a hate group.
