I'm sure Realist and the rest of the golf world will pause for a long and mournful tribute to the greatest golfer who ever lived. Didn't he card something like a 41 for his very first 18 holes?

He was a heck of an all-around guy.

Edit: Boy was I off. I just checked and it appears that he was a 38 under par on his first outing so his score must have been like 33 or 34. Who needs a wedge or a putter? When you have five holes in one, it does wonders for your score.

KCNA urged the nation, people and military to rally behind his young son and heir apparent, telling them they must "faithfully revere" Kim Jong-un's leadership.

Kim had recovered from a reported stroke in 2008, and Monday's announcement was unexpected. But he had already begun grooming Kim Jong-un to take control of the "hermit state", appointing him a general last year and giving him several high profile roles.

What these stories don't reveal is that Dear Leader actually died six months ago in a tragic accident involving Lime Jello, a large number of goats and some very suspicious devices. They have been trying to think of the official reason for his death since then. You think in all that time, they could have invented something better. Personally, I'd have said he died of a brain cloud. It worked in Joe vs. the Volcano.

April 15th, 2012 will be the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kim Il-sung, the father of Kim Jong-il and the founder of this dynasty. A big celebration had been planned. Now, they may have a period of mourning that interferes with the celebration.

I was listening to a debate today between a couple of experts on NK on whether or not we should send food aid to North Korea. Former Ambassador Christopher Hill said we shouldn't because the government would just use it for the celebration. I didn't get the name of the other expert but he said we should not hold food aid hostage and tie it to deals on nukes.

I was asking myself the same question. The population has had very little contact with the outside world for a long time. What we see is most likely a skewed version of traditional public mourning. A lot of it was organized as they appeared to be in school uniforms and in formations. It is something we are not likely to get an answer to until there is a thaw in relations and a less repressive government.

Will the new dictator be any different than the last? Will he be the real power or is there a military junta that has been in charge as the old guy has been failing in health?

I think the son will take over briefly but after the period of mourning, however long that is, there will be a power play by Kim Jong Il's sister and BIL, and/or the military. If there's some chaos, it might make an opening for a "Korean Spring". Kim's kept them docile and weak for years by underfeeding them, I wonder if they'd take a chance if they saw one.

Falsehoods unchallenged only fester and grow.
