There may not be many posts about this race for Sen Kirsten Gillibrand's US Senate seat. The reason, hardly any Republicans are interested in challenging her.
Quote:
So far, only first-year Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos has declared his candidacy. According to a Siena College poll released on Wednesday, Gillibrand has a huge 65 percent to 17 percent lead over the Republican.

Oh yeah, this might also be a factor.
Quote:
Gillibrand had $7 million in her account at the end of the third quarter.

She's turned into a reliable liberal. She was much more conservative when she was in the House.

Not a huge surprise, really. Her former district is a bit more conservative than the state as a whole.

I like her, and not just because she's been a good friend to my tribe.

It appears Sen Gillibrand may end up with a well known challenger after all, Congressman Bob Turner (R-NY 9th). Turner was elected to the House last September in the special election required after Anthony Weiner resigned. New York will lose 2 House seats due to reapportionment and the legislature made Turner's one of them. Campaign cash may be a problem for Turner.
NY Daily News wrote:
And a little more on the money for you... According to FEC records, Turner now has $72,600 cash on hand but is carrying $65,500 in debt. It remains to be seen to what extent he'd be able to self-finance in a race against Gillibrand. The incumbent junior senator has $8.1 million on hand and debt of... $0.

After checking on Senate races in Nebraska, Missouri, Nevada and Montana, this one is fun to follow.

Congressman Bob Turner may be more well known state-wide than Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos, but at this time Sen Gillibrand has to be satisfied with New Yorker's perception of her.

A different opponent for Sen Gillibrand doesn't seem to change things much.

Wendy Long has been declared the winner in the New York Republican primary election and will face Sen Gillibrand this November. Long appears to be the social conservative's choice of the three GOP candidates.

At present Long has 53% compared to Turner with 34% and Maragos with 11%.

The main points for Long's candidacy from her website. Somehow it's not surprising that a Republican US Senate nominee is bought and paid for by the NRA, is anti-choice and anti-gay marriage.

In April Republican Wendy Long trailed Sen Gillibrand by 41pts (Siena) and 30pts (Quinnipiac). Now 6 months later she trails Gillibrand by 43pts (Siena) and 37pts (Quinnipiac).

I have a suggestion for Long's campaign music.

You're welcome.
