An explosion (perhaps a car bomb) has caused some damage to the central buildings of the Norwegian government in Oslo. The Prime Minister is said to be unhurt, but at least two people are confirmed dead and others injured. Now a person dressed as a policeman has fired shots at a Labour Party Youth Camp near Oslo, injuring five people out of 700 there.
Edit: A commercial TV broadcaster in Norway says that people were killed at the Youth Camp, which is run by the party of the Prime Minister.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for either attack. Reuters

It looks like they were targeting the PM. Now, who they are, remains unclear.

Quote:
Though the police did not immediately connect the explosions with terrorism, the mangled wreckage of a car could be seen in front of the main government building, flipped on its side, and a large area of the sidewalk appeared heavily damaged around it. Reports in local media said officials were assuming it was a deliberate bombing.

A terror group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, according to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute that studies terrorism. The message said the attack was a response to Norwegian forces’ presence in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad. “We have warned since the Stockholm raid of more operations,” the group said, according to Mr. McCants’ translation, apparently referred to a bombing in Sweden in December 2010. “What you see is only the beginning, and there is more to come.” The claim could not be confirmed.

Edit: 2124: A terrorism expert tells the BBC that Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad, a terror group that claimed responsibility for the explosion in Oslo, was not behind the attack.

The guy from TalkRadioNewsService told Thom Hartmann that the anti-terror experts have been called to the WH and(I can't find confirmation of this) they are shooting at each other in the streets of Oslo.

Since i can't find anything to confirm it, I assume for now it's a garbled report about the policeman shooting kids.

Norwegian news is saying that the man arrested at the youth camp does appear to be linked to the car bomb. Reports of up to 25 dead at the camp. Horrible.

The casualty figures from both the central government district and the island youth camp are still in flux. Some people tried to escape by swimming from the island to the mainland even as the SWAT team was arriving at the island. Police are reported now to be looking for explosives on the island.

As this story becomes clearer, we may find that the quick assumption that some extremist Islamist group is behind the attacks is false. Norway also has an anti-immigrant radical right that is not pleased with the current coalition government and the Labour Party that is leading it.

Despite that lack of clarity, in a typical demonstration of bad taste the American Thinker is running:
The Crocodile Feeding in Norway
Quote:
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile -- hoping it will eat him last." Winston Churchill

Norway, which has a sordid history of feeding the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel beast, woke up this morning to the shock of the Islamist beast feeding on Norwegian blood.

Norwegian police have now confirmed that a bomb by an Al Qaeda-linked group caused an explosion at the government headquarters in Oslo, and reports are now coming in of a simultaneous attack at a youth camp. The body count is not yet in, but most of Norway must be asking "Why us? Haven't we been sufficiently anti-Semitic and anti-Israel?"

Edit: Police: Utoya shooter was local man
Quote:
Police say the gunman is a Norwegian.

Witnesses described the suspect as "blond" and "Nordic-looking." Late Friday, Knut Storberegt, Norway's royal minister of justice and the police, confirmed that he is a Norwegian; the BBC, citing police, said he was from Utoya. Police said he is also believed to have been involved in the bombing that killed seven people earlier in the day in Oslo, about 25 miles away.

Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism researcher at the Swedish Defense Academy, told Nettavisen, that the description of the suspect and his possible involvement in bombing national government offices, "points to an internal rather than external extremist extremist."

"Intuitively, the bombing is al-Qaida-related, but with this attack on Utoya, this could just be a crazy person," Ranstorp said.

We don't know yet who did this. But what we do know is that those responsible are humanity's roaches, murdering innocent and helpless people to make a political point.

Oslo's TV 2 seems to be saying that the shooter at the youth camp had a permit for two weapons and was a member of an extreme right wing group. It is also saying that unexploded bombs have been found on the island. However, it would be helpful for somebody who actually reads Norwegian to confirm this content.

[quoteThe suspect arrested in today's bombing and shooting attacks in Oslo is 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik, who is believed to have links to right-wing extremist and anti-immigrant (read: anti-Muslim) organizations. (source: Sky News). And now, he has a Wikipedia page. The Daily Mail has photos. Here's what's said to be his Facebook page, and a Twitter account. Looks like they were both created within the past week, which is all very suspicious. According to comments attributed to him on various right-wing/anti-immigrant websites, he was a fan of white supremacist and anti-Muslim pundits including some from the US. Assuming it's legit, all of this makes early reports that Muslims were responsible for the attacks laughable. ][/quote]

The shrieks have started POLITICONS:
"Wheres his links to right wing extremism? False flag operation."

Right wing extremists in the U.S. are still denying that Timothy McVeigh was responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing and float vague hints of Muslim extremists having been seen at the scene of the crime.

Shortly thereafter, The Telegraph newspaper of London reported the same information, quoting Norwegian Justice Minister Knut Storberget.

A man of the same name and age is identified in government business records as sole director of a company called Breivik Geofarm. In the records, the company says its business is the "growing of vegetables, melons, roots and tubers" and reports that it has 790 employees.

The "790 employees" does not make sense. He is elsewhere described as the sole director of a small farm, and there is a suspicion that he began the farming operation as a means of obtaining explosive materials. A farm with 790 employees would be a large farm even in the U.S. 790 hectares might be more likely.

But not the skinhead who did it.

Let's hope he gets life rather than 10-15 years, which is, sadly, a common murder sentence in Scandinavia.

Could one person have shot and killed 80 people without someone stopping him somehow?

I suppose if none of them had guns or any means whatsoever of defending themselves against a maniac who did have them. Not to go all Second Amendment or anything.

This particularly disgusting event has brought out the nastier Freeptards, as well. It was interesting watching the expected 'R.O.P.?' posts immediately after the bombing reports, turning into the 'False Flag, No way a W.A.S.P. could have done this, had to be a sleeper cell' etc posts.
