Gun nut: everyone should have a gun at home for self-protection!

Same gun nut after black serviceman is killed attempting to defend himself from a break and enter: He was waving a gun at a police officer! He deserved it!

They were called about a disturbance. The airman was on a video chat, which presumably was at a normal sound level and didn't sound like a "disturbance." He asked twice who was there and they didn't answer, then they weren't showing through the peephole. A lot of oddness there, assuming the woman is telling the truth about what he said and she heard.

How many times does this "wrong address" excuse get to be used as a defense?

That was the conclusion that the woman on the chat reached, but there wasn't (in the article) any confirmation from the police. There are other possibilities, such as swatting.

My brother-in-law has been swatted at least twice since the start of the pandemic. Fortunately the police were on top of things, and were very apologetic just for knocking on the door and disturbing him.

They were called by property managment for a disturbance. The person (lady) did show him "a" apartment by "number", but did not even know if it was the correct one.

It doesn't look like the officer ever entered the apt at all, just shot him when he opened the door.

Just a note: very early after knocking on the door and saying it was the police he did step to the side, he would not have been visible if the guy looked thru the eyehole. I wonder if he should not have contacted dispatch for confirmation of the kind of incident after he did not hear anything himself.

Update May 7th, 2024:
Statement from Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden on Fatal Officer Involved Shooting
All of us at the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office are saddened about the fatal officer involved shooting over the weekend.
Late Friday afternoon, our deputy responded to a call of a disturbance in progress where he encountered an armed man. The deputy shot the man, who later succumbed to his injuries.
I immediately placed the deputy on administrative leave and have asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct the investigation that is required in such incidents.
The State Attorney’s Office will also conduct an independent review.
At this time, we humbly ask for our community’s patience as we work to understand the facts that resulted in this tragic event.

Is the stepping to the side after knocking to avoid being shot through the door?

Doesn’t excuse what happens next..

2 injured in Skyline High School shooting

By KTVU Staff
Updated May 23, 2024 10:24pm PDT OaklandKTVU FOX 2

OAKLAND, Calif. - The sound of bullets pierced the air at what should have been a momentous occasion at Skyline High School’s graduation Thursday evening, sending students and their families running for cover-up in Oakland’s hills.

At a press conference, Oakland police Lt. Robert Trevino said the shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. on the north side of the campus. Trevino said officers found two victims, a man and a woman, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Trevino said the two victims were transported to local hospitals and are in stable condition.

Investigators are looking into reports of a dispute that preceded the shooting. Trevino said there were multiple suspects, but could not provide an exact number.

He said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.

Hey folks, I'm starting to think that maybe we should stop arming our toddlers. They're rarely the proverbial good guy with the gun and instead generally seem to be shooting themselves or their siblings or other family members. It's quite the quandary.
3-year-old boy hospitalized after shooting himself in the head near Mesa

A 3-year-old boy is fighting for his life after reportedly shooting himself near Mesa on Thursday.

It happened at a mobile home park at Main Street and Crismon Road around 3:45 p.m.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said the boy shot himself in the head. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, MCSO said.

As of Saturday morning, the boy remains in critical condition.

Deputies didn’t say how he got ahold of the gun or who else was with the toddler.

An investigation is underway, and MCSO says charges could be brought pending on the outcome of the case.

Heresy. This is America. :flag:

Every two year old should get a pistol for a birthday gift. Rifles are difficult to aim at that age, the NRA recommends that you wait until age 6 or 7 to give your child a rifle or shotgun.

I guess the RWNJs are going to have to decide if they want everyone armed no matter their competency or do they want more rugrats running around. Doesn't look like they can have it both ways.

No one will ever find the gun in a *checks notes* preschool! Genius!
Trial date set for suspect accused of leaving gun at Las Vegas preschool, leading to toddler’s shooting

A trial date has been set for a Las Vegas suspect facing a host of criminal charges after allegedly leaving a handgun on a preschool playground, leading to a toddler shooting herself.

Tshaun Rucker, 16, was charged as an adult after he reportedly shot an RTC bus passenger, fled, and dropped his gun at a preschool playground last fall. A two-year-old girl found the weapon and accidentally shot herself.

The 16-year-old accused of leaving a gun on a preschool playground will stand trial in June.
Rucker’s case was bound over to Clark Couty District Court, where he faces 11 charges, including attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and attempting to destroy evidence.

The victim recovered from her injuries.

An initial June trial date was continued and Rucker’s jury trial is now scheduled to begin on November 12.
