He was also married by then. His wife could have taken care of the paperwork.

He'd only have to be there long enough to have someone notice he didn't have an SSN yet and say, "Eisenhower you need a social security number. Fill this out." Joining a new unit is the perfect time for discovering someone needs some new paperwork.

I think it would be worth it to request his SS-5 or whatever it is and find out just when it was applied for and issued.

If it wasn't in that time frame of 1939-1940 I would like to slap Susan Daniels upside the head with it.

I'll do the request.

Thanks. I have difficulty getting to the mailbox down the street.

I received President Eisenhower's SS-5 today and will scan it tomorrow.

His social security number reflects a geographic glitch. He applied for it in retirement, on April 10, 1962, when he was 71 years old. He listed his address as a P.O. Box in Gettsyburg, Pennsylvania, where it is well known he did in fact retire after the presidency. The number he was given corresponds to California, not Pennsylvania.

Another fraud!

Well, I guess we're going to have to unwind the Interstate Highway system. Nothing that passed from 1953 to 1961 was valid. (And all those Justices of SCOTUS who Ike appointed -- no pffft -- gone.) I'm looking forward to a HUGE tax refund for my Father. Maybe I can hire Orly Taitz, D.D.S., Esquire to sue the United States for that refund.

I suspected that was the case. There is an online website that estimates issue dates for SSNs and that shows 1962 and I knew he was in Gettysburg by then. I hadn't noticed before you started posting that it was a California number.

BTW Nixon got his in 1963 - in California

These facts are true. Anyone who lived in Gettysburg at this time could confirm this fact. Many of us even met him or his wife at local establishments, but not me, since I wasn't even born when he was alive.

I believe I was in the audience when he spoke at the Arlington Amphitheater in May of 1958.

I don't *think* so. I'm waiting 'til poutine scans and posts the document and then spreading it around a little. :D

Clearly it is due to fraud.

poutine's post:

And I demand investigation. Ikegate could be bigger than Watergate.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting, but I forgot to bring Ike's SS-5 with me to work this morning. I don't have a scanner at home. I'll get it in soon, promise!

In light of Orly's presentations about Obama's 'stolen' SSN from Connecticut, did the Eisenhower stuff get scanned yet?

Sounds great, thanks poutine. Any speculation on what might have caused him to finally apply for one in 1962? He must have had a military pension plus his US govt pension from being President. Maybe they finally required it for recordkeeping. Too early for Medicare.

Who'da thunk Ike was a usurperer too!!!

Actually President Eisenhower never had a military pension per se. A five-star flag officer is never considered to have retired, and gets paid an active duty officer's salary + benefits for the rest of their lives.

Shortly before Eisenhower became president, he resigned his commission and rank as General of the Army to avoid the conflict of a military officer as the Civilian CiC. On 23 March 1961, President Kennedy signed into law the act granting Eisenhower his commission and previous rank as General of the Army again.
