Yep, that looks nice on the tab.

Edit: One small problem. It only shows up on this topic.

For me it's showing up on every topic, in every browser. Maybe you need to force refresh?

OK, it shows for me on any topic page but not on the index page, view new posts page, or view active topics.

Edit: It is working on all pages now.

I like the way the reply and quote functions work on this forum just fine

It's not really any trouble to cut and paste the part of the post that you wish to reply to.

(I also like the blue box for off-topic posts. They mostly keep me from going overboard off-topic-ly.)

I'd like to see a button that stops people from posting until I can catch up. The more I read, the farther behind I get! STOP BEING SO WITTY, PEEPS! I don't want to miss anything. :-

I'm still waiting for my own private PAYPAL button so I can keep up with Dr. O'rly.

A REPLY TO LAST button - which would be a one touch button that sets up the very last comment as a quote without dragging the rest of the stuff into it????

thank you very much...looks like I found the right place... =D> =D>

Please notice that I DID NOT QUOTE SUEDB'S POST.

I just replied to it with no quote.

Did that prevent you from following the discussion?

Did that confuse you too much?

Did that make your brainbone hurt? =;

I got it. Indeed, I often reply that way.

Because I am that kind of an old man.

How about this? Image

Note, the original image is copyrighted and is here. I seriously doubt, however, that anyone would be terribly concerned with a 16 x 16 reduction of an enormous image, which can't possibly replace the original.

I looked at a lot of photos of fogbows before I decided on the FB one.

At 16 x 16 px, you can't see any of them distinctly. You'd have to be told, "That's a fogbow." But that FB is very readable. I think I'm going to stick with it for a while. Maybe something will jump out at me.

An easy one: A new group (perhaps gold colored) for subscribers (or donor above x amount).

It'd be optional, so those wishing to remain anonymous would not be forced to join.

(And for subscribers already in another group: Choose! Alternate!)

I can't even see that "gold colored" text.

Second, I get contributions usually with actual people's names. In many, if not most cases, I have no idea how to correlate the real names with the screen names. I got a new subscription today under a real name. I have no idea who the hell it is. And I don't need to know.

If you contributed, then you know you're a good person, and thank you.

Third, I don't know if it's a good idea, even if I could implement it. What if it makes you a target for Orly or some other birfoon? What if one person contributes WAY more than everybody else? I just can't think through all the ramifications right now.

Short rant:

I am probably the person who knows the least about computers here on The Fogbow.

If I can figure out how to edit a quote to remove excess text, graphics and media files, I assume everybody can.

The reason it's a pet peeve of mine is that I remember how screwed up the database at PJ got. I worry it will happen here.

I respectfully ask that you edit your quoted text to remove all that, unless it's important to your post.

I mean I'm kinda lazy, too. I rarely use the link button to make my posts real pretty like others do. I generally just copy/paste the links. But I don't think they will screw up the database.

Ok, I'm done. Thanks for indulging. :D

While I agree with the sentiment, don't worry about the database. I take all kinds of extra precautions to make sure it's running smoothly. The forum is running like a Swiss watch. I have complete backups of everything at all times. The worst that could ever happen is we might lose a day's worth of posts, but that has never happened so far.

I did screw up the old uploaded graphic files. I learned a lesson and that won't happen again. For the most part, that hasn't caused anybody any great problems that I know of (you can always edit your old posts and re-upload the files if they're important), and it has provided some fun entertainment since Geoff Staples decided I did it deliberately to "scrub" the subpoena LindainTX uploaded. The truth is, I have a copy of that subpoena in *.pdf format in my email, if I ever need it for any reason.

So, umm ... yeah. Be discriminating in what you quote, but do it to make the forum prettier, and don't worry about screwing up the database. I'm doing a pretty darn good job of running the technical stuff, and I'm learning more all the time. As soon as I finish The 900 Days, I'm reading this:

Image

Then I can start some REAL trouble.

Late to the party as usual Foggy, but I like that favicon Image

It showed up about a week ago on my FireFox taskbar. Now only Politjab is lacking a favicon. I like to push buttons, especially if I know what they do.

I'm a little concerned about you learning PHP and SQL however. I can always disable Javascript though.

Stop learning, start dying. I will never stop trying to learn new things.

When my father turned 80, at his birthday party, we all gave speeches like we do in my fambly. My niece was teasin' the poor ol' guy on account of when he was her age, the only communications technology he had was radio and the moving pictures.

"I don't know how I'd be able to live without my Wii and my iPod and my Blackberry," says she.

I stood up and told her, "Little girl ..." [-X

"When you're 80 years old, try telling YOUR grandchildren about your Wii and your iPod and your Blackberry. You might even be able to take them to a museum and show them some of those ancient, obsolete artifacts. And they will laugh so hard, at your primitive technology."

Because the world is changing FASTER today than it was in the 1930s. And the technology is ACCELERATING. In five years, you won't be able to recognize the Innertubes. Our science is still in its pre-infancy.

I, however, will be there five years from now, and I'll be on top of it. My only concern about learning PHP and MySQL is that they'll turn out to be yesterday's web tech, like all the time I spent learning DOS commands and how to configure a modem so it didn't use a conflicting IRQ. When that happens, I'll learn something else, too.

So there!
