The Irish part of Scots-Irish-Italian me can't wait for tonight's corned beef dinner, but the Italian part of me says you may not cook cabbage in the house, so It'll be carrots celery and potatoes instead.

My hubby's grandpa and sister were both born today. They are French and German, no Irish, though.

When my Mom made corned beef and cabbage on St Paddy's day, I HATED the cabbage and would eat the carrots and potatoes and the teensiest tiniest piece of cabbage that would be enough to get my mom to stop saying " oh just try a piece". (Actually I believe that's what we all did - even my dad - eat one little cabbage morsel to get her out of our shit.)

Dr. Kate, Chalice and Holy Cao. My only photos of Kate and Theresa, their heads were too big to shrink into the face holes. :(

Yeah, Micheal Flatley, natural born citizen, born in Chicago, claiming to be Irish.

Seriously the guy has a huge self hype machine. He would be nowhere without Riverdance... Which he tried to claim all the credit for and from which he was kicked out after a year after messing up any dance routine bar his tap dancing shtick, at which point they replaiced him with a guy that makes Flatley liike like an amatur. He's so blatant at self publicity that he was rushed to hospital "with a life threatening illness"... only to leave the next day to a blaze of cameras talking about his miracle recovery while the doctors were saying they found nothing wrong with him. I hear he pulled the same thing when doing the publicity for Lord of the dance.

I will say that lord of the dance would be a good dance show... if he wasn't in it. If you go expect ling lingering shots of Flatley's gorgeous bod. Becasue that was in the dvd of the stage show. My mother was a fan of his for a long while and I had to sit through the DVD a few times (the rest of the performers were pretty good btw... but you only saw that when Flatley would let the camera get off him for 5 seconds) but slowly even she saw he was a total wanker.

Flatley? Naa I don't have a bee in my bonnet about him at all...

Anyway, I was just at our parade here. Was quite fun, the highlight for me was seeing a workmate in a float that was promoting french culture. I also got a hug from a woman who whas promoting the local nursing home. I think she really did it to stop me getting my camera out to stop me taking a ohoto of her in her Viking Brunhilda getup

The nice thing was that there was absalutly no way that Orly Taitz could mess this up... hang on what's this?

YEEEAAAARGHHHH!!!

Suranis, this cultural illiterate has a notion that all Irish children must learn Irish dance, starting at age 6 or thereabouts, kind of like Catholics who don't go to Catholic school must take catechism twice a week. How far off am I? :-?

When I first heard the term soccer moms, i thought it meant moms who play soccer and I had an accompanying mental image of a gaggle of moms pushing strollers and dribbling and passing soccer balls as they walked the babes.

Now, thanks to you, in my "mind", all moms in Ireland push their prams while dancing a jig.

Edit: Edited because I don't think one can walk and jig at the same time.

I saw him on a morning show this morning all bundled up while a crew of his young minions did some dancing demo in their costumes from the movie. I recall back in the River Dance days that started it all for him he would often go in and out of his Irish accent. One time someone called him on it. Today, he had the accent going the whole time. Perhaps he spends more time in Ireland now and has just adopted it. He said he had been very ill with a virus no one could diagnose and he finally got over it with bed rest. (I ain't goin' there to guess what sort of virus he might have.)

The critique I read of the movie said it was entertaining, but very poorly lit, to the point it ruined it for him. I saw a fairly long clip this morning and Flatley wears the trademark pants and short jacket, but with a shirt covering a bit of a paunch and I think some slight man-boobs, which I think is nearly unavoidable for a 52 year old. Even though I realize he is full of shit and it's amazing all those other people can fit on the stage with him and his ego on it, I enjoy him immensely. I believe he knows we know he's full of it and doesn't care.

He moved permanently back to the states 2 years ago. The "Illness" didn't stop him lying around his yacht with his supermodel wife till they split up and he traded her in for a younger model. But hey, if you enjoy his dancing that's great. :)

Well, there's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama.

According that socialist site, wikipedia, true!:
Quote:
Fulmoth Kearney, the great-great-great grandfather of United States President Barack Obama, emigrated from Moneygall to New York City at the age of 19 in 1850 and eventually resettled in Tipton County, Indiana. Kearney's father, Joseph, had been the village shoemaker, then a wealthy skilled trade. Indeed the whole Kearney family emigrated to Ross County, Ohio in the first half of the 19th century. Fulmoth Kearney's youngest daughter, Mary Ann, moved from Indiana to Kansas after her father's death in 1878. Mary Ann Kearney is the paternal grandmother of Stanley Dunham, President Obama's maternal grandfather.
