WKRC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cincinnati, reports that in March one of their reporters was forced to leave a so-called “tea party” protest after a small portion of the mostly peaceful crowd began intimidating her and other members of the media.

Fox has sponsored what it calls a ‘national movement’ of tea parties to protest the Obama Administration. The Cincinnati event was the largest such event held so far.

Organizers claim a crowd of 5,000, but aerial photographs suggest a smaller crowd of perhaps 1,500.

I would suspect these tea party protests will be turning violent soon after seeing the video at the link above, let's hope I am wrong.

Media Matters shows how Fox News isn't just reporting on the Tea Parties, but actively promoting them:

A few pix:

A couple examples:
Quote:
On its Facebook page, the Sacramento Tea Party states: "We've just received notice that FoxNews will be broadcasting the 'Your World with Neil Cavuto' show live from the Sacramento Tea Party. Now we really have a chance to let the whole nation hear our voices in Sacramento. Bring your friends, family and everyone you know!"

Quote:
The website AtlantaTeaParty.net states of Sean Hannity's appearance at its Atlanta protest:

Quote:
Moments ago, Sean Hannity, of Hannity on Fox News, announced that he is going to broadcast LIVE from the ATLANTA TEA PARTY!!!! Fox will also have news crews in other cities around the country at their Tea Parties. This is huge and exciting news for the Atlanta event and also for the Tea Party movement in general.

We are honored to have Hannity covering our Atlanta Tea Party!

Will the Sacremento Tea Party meet in the same Dennys parking lot as the Citizens Grand Jury?  Should someone alert Orly and crew where the cameras will be? Might make for good t.v.    Over at Free Republic and WND, they're worried the Tea Parties will be infiltrated by (gasp) liberals.  Wouldn't it be more interesting (or subversive, take your pick) if the Crazy Russian Dentist and her band of patriots showed up behind Cavuto on Fox? Just a suggestion.

Bob Cesca is looking ahead to the Big Tea Party weekend:

Quote:
Steve Benen wonders out loud:
Quote:
Meanwhile, I suspect one of the problems with the Tea Parties is that it's not altogether clear what they're rallying for. [...]

I take it they don't like the economic stimulus package, but that's already passed. They don't like budget deficits, unless they're run by Republican presidents. They don't want their taxes to go up, but Obama has already passed a significant middle-class tax cut, which by most measures, is the largest tax cut ever signed by a U.S. president.

So, angry, right-wing activists are going to get together to demand ... what exactly? A 36% top rate instead of a 39.6% top rate? A $3.1 trillion federal budget instead of a $3.5 trillion deficit? It's hardly the stuff of a credible and coherent political movement.

They're going to say that socialism is bad while gathering on publicly-financed park land and outside public buildings. They're going to insist that they don't want their taxes raised even though it's likely that upwards of 90 percent of the tea baggers are getting a tax cut. And they're generally going to emulate a protest from history that was precipitated by a corporate tax cut, which would otherwise indicate that the tea baggers are against tax cuts.

ACORN’s Coming to Getcha

Hot rumor on the right: members of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now will stalk next week’s Tea Party protests, collecting intel on the people who show up. One e-mail that’s making the rounds, via my friend Steve Gordon:

TEA PARTY CAUTION! DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING - FROM ANYONE - AT ANY TEA PARTY ANYWHERE IN THE USA —- NO EXCEPTIONS!Federally-funded ACORN operators will be at all Tea Parties to get signatures which they will give to Obama stating that the signatures are in support of his policies or to get the names of people who oppose his policies and report dissention.

NO MATTER WHAT, DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING! IF YOU HAVE FRIENDS WHO PLAN TO ATTEND, WHO DO NOT HAVE EMAIL, GET ON THE PHONE TO WARN THEM. TRY TO CALL OR EMAIL RADIO TALK SHOWS AND LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG.

PASS IT ON!

So does that mean Orly won't be able to collect any more signatures?

via David Weigel:

Quote:
J.P. Freire, The American Spectator managing editor and an organizer of Washington, D.C.’s anti-spending April 15 “Tea Party,” announced this morning that perennial presidential candidate Alan Keyes would speak at the event. A chorus of groans sounded at the meeting where this was announced.

I wonder if Dickie Mellon-Scaife is still involved with The American Spectator?

From a Conservative Blogger:
Quote:
On the other hand, the Washington Tea Party has given a speaking slot to … Alan Keyes! What the hell were they thinking? He’s almost guaranteed to say something totally crazy (e.g., that Obama’s not a natural-born citizen) and discredit the movement.

The comments at that blog seem to share the sentiment.

Michael Steele asked to speak at a "Tea Party", and they turned him down.

All O-bots are reminded by HQ to be sure to take as many photographs of the teabagging activities as possible, digital high quality is preferred, but cell phone pictures are acceptable as well, live video is best if it can be obtained (including interviews). Remember, these are public protests, so, media will be expected, the participants will expect and even hope to be photographed. Please take as many photos as you can with whatever device you have available, then forward as per Directive 92-6689-TBI-41. Do this along with gathering signatures from all participants.

That's it. My former political party has clearly gone absolutely and utterly mad.

*sigh*.

I just hope hope the rational fiscal conservatives get their act together by 2012 and get a solid, small government, 'culture-war' free alternative before the next presidential elections. The Republican's are clearly on their way to the no-man's-land loony bin.

EriktheRed

Yup, ACORN is the new ACLU. I notice they still like to throw out George Soros, too.

But like others have said lately: better they spend their time on this than shooting up a Unitarian church or killing cops.

Of course, they've got nothing on the anti-gay marriage folks who have, inappropriately enough, decided to name their movement 2M4M:
Quote:
NOM Launches Nationwide "Two Million for Marriage" Initiative!

APRIL 8, 2009 -- In just a few minutes, NOM President Maggie Gallagher and I will hold a press conference in Trenton, NJ, announcing an ambitious new nationwide "2 Million for Marriage" (2M4M) initiative.

Over the next two years, we will be organizing two million marriage activists from every state in the nation to form an online army of marriage activists willing to stand up for marriage on a moment's notice, sending emails and making phone calls to legislators whenever marriage is threatened.
See: http://www.nationformarriage.org/site/a ... ct=6877701

This act of political brilliance was immediately countered by the purchasers of the newly launched http://www.2m4m.org/ web site.

Umm, after spending some time searching, I can't find a report anywhere about the Teabagging Party in Studio City yesterday, the one that was featuring Our Lady of the Nitrous.

Not on her new blog at repubrx.com. Not in the L.A. Times or the Studio City Sun. Not in Freeperville. Not on YouTube. Not anywhere.

Prob'ly a huge success, tho ...

If anyone is bored........

You can send a virtual tea bag to the President, VP, Pelosi and Reid courtesy of the GOP. Wonkette has been having fun with this today.

Mustang: Yes, you can send multiple times. I just sent one from Karl Rove and another from Rush Limbaugh.

Good idea from Crank Tango on “send me a copy” where “me” is glennbeck@foxnews.com.

We MUST keep doing this, at least to the point where we see whining on RedState about “paid Obots ruining everything.”

April 15, 2009: Tea Party Day
Submitted by Phil on Wed, Apr 15, 2009No Comment
While most of my updates will be via Twitter today, this posting will get things started for commentary on my blog RE: tea parties.

From Michelle Malkin, she presents a “cheat sheet” on what this thing’s been all about:

It’s here!

For the Johnny-Come-Latelys in the MSM who will be dispatched by their editors to file obligatory stories about the hundreds of Tax Day Tea Party protests across the country today, here is a cheat sheet to get you up to speed.

As I originally reported here, the following is the video that started it all:

Dagnabbit. There is one not too far from where I work, but I have school tonight and class starts at 7. I could probably swing by and take a couple of pics on my cell phone camera. That might be good for a chuckle.

What is puzzling is that The Gaylord / Preston corner is nothing but shopping areas. Not too many places to stand and protest. And the Address they give is several blocks north of that intersection. Hmm...

Oh well. At least they got the 2nd location right. If nothing else, those streets are very busy around the time they are going to be there. Rush hour traffic.

Frisco Tea Party 5-7pm
Gaylord & Preston/3100 Preston Road and Lebanon & Preston/ 5049 Preston Rd

The Philly Tea Party was at Love Park - which is right across the street from my office. I peeked out the window a couple times but didn't get a chance to go in person. It is about 45 and raining here, so not the best weather, but there were probably about 100 - 150 people there (it is tough to tell from the 14th floor when all you can see are umbrellas). There was someone talking but I couldn't make out the words, and some cheering. Lots of "Don't Tread on me Flags" and signs, the only one I could read said "atlas will shrug" on one side and "who is john gault" on the other. I think it was scheduled from noon until 2, but when I looked at 1:15 it was pretty much over, only about 40 people still milling around. The crowd was actually bigger than I expected but over all I think it was pretty much a dud - I've seen lots more people in Love Park for other events.
