I did a search and didn't see this article posted so I thought this is an appropriate thread as the lengthy article draws direct ties to Glenn Beck:

Quote:
"Progressive Hunter"
Jailhouse Confession: How the right-wing media and Glenn Beck's chalkboard drove Byron Williams to plot assassination

"I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn't for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind." - Byron Williams

According to a police investigation, Williams opened fire on California Highway Patrol officers who had stopped him on an Oakland freeway for driving erratically. For 12 frantic minutes, Williams traded shots with the police, employing three firearms and a small arsenal of ammunition, including armor-piercing rounds fired from a .308-caliber rifle.

When the smoke cleared, Williams surrendered; the ballistic body armor he was wearing had saved his life. Miraculously, only two of the 10 CHP officers involved in the shootout were injured.

In an affidavit, an Oakland police investigator reported that during an interview at the hospital, Williams "stated that his intention was to start a revolution by traveling to San Francisco and killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU."

Tides Foundation CEO To Fox News Advertisers: Drop Glenn Beck Or Have Blood On Your Hands

In an extraordinary move to nip the inflammatory commentary coming from Glenn Beck, the founder and CEO of the Tides Foundation (a frequent Beck target) has written advertisers asking them to remove their sponsorship of the Fox News program or risk having "blood on their hands."

Drummond Pike, who along with his organization was recently targeted by an assassin inspired by Beck's program, penned a letter on Friday to the Chairmen of the Boards of JP Morgan Chase, GEICO, Zurich Financial, Chrysler, Direct Holdings Americas, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Lilly Corporate Center, BP, and The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.

In it, he detailed the alarm he felt over having a "person carrying numerous guns and body armor" attempt to start a "revolution" by murdering "my colleagues and me."

Quote:
To say we were "shocked" does not adequately describe our reaction. Imagine, for a moment, that you were us and, had it not been for a sharp eyed highway patrolman, a heavily armed man in full body armor would have made it to your office with the intent to kill you and your colleagues. His motive? Apparently, it was because the charitable, nonpartisan programs we run are deemed part of a conspiracy to undermine America and the capitalist system, which is hogwash.

I sometimes torture myself when I am driving in my car and listen to Glen Beck on the radio (luckily I usually take the train).

This morning I was heading to my office after an appointment and Glen was on some rant about the similarities between the Great Depression and today. There was a lot of traffic so I was only half listening, but he spent some time trying to make a point (that was completely lost on me) between FDR using "Happy Days are Here Again" as a campaign song, but just two years later the most popular song was "Brother Can You Spare a Dime?".

Then he started on the Progressives, saying they started in 1912 and were over by 1920, but not before they created the income tax. Then he really lost me, by claiming (apparently straight-faced) that they were so proud of their creation they named it after themselves - the Progressive income tax. He repeated this several times - with great emphasis on the use of the word progressive.

Now I am sure that Glen understands the use of "progressive" with respect to the income tax refers to the increasing nature of the tax rate at different brackets, but there are lot of people who are going to fall for this nonsense. Combined with his bad-mouthing of groups like the Tides Foundation I believe that this kind of rhetoric is going to lead to real trouble, especially if the Republicans get control of the House and Senate and cause more obstruction. Even if the economy is slowly getting better they are going to try to cut (or hold up) a lot of the safety-net programs that are helping keep people from total desperation. If they are pushed over the edge they are going to be easy prey for this nonsense.

I have two (former) friends. Both are on disability, he works occasionally, she can't work at all. They survive on public assistance, Medicare, and help from their families.

And they have both become hard core Beck worshipers. (which is why they're now former friends). They have become so taken by Beck's words and the people that Beck is blaming, that they simply can't understand that Beck wants the safety nets they rely on to be removed.

They are both happily, cheerfully, working against their own interests. And will lash at out anyone who points this out to them.

I hope they wake up someday.

Hmmm...Stockholm syndrome writ large. During the civil war, according to my great-grandmother, there were some slaves that tried mightily to shield their masters from the wrath of Sherman's soldiers as they moved north through South Carolina.

Glenn Beck is selling food insurance. FOOD INSURANCE! :P

I went to the site:

Quote:
If you think about it, food and water are vital to our survival. A human being can only live for a few weeks without food and only a few days without water. So why aren't we more concerned with protecting our most basic necessities? In light of the tragic events in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, the power outage in New York City that brought the city to a standstill, and the constant threat of fires, earthquakes, tornadoes and other natural disasters across the country, it is important to make sure we always have the basic necessities of life with enough home food storage for your family to survive for at least two weeks.

Foodinsurance.com has designed an emergency pack and emergency kits to give people at least two weeks of great food and clean water until more permanent solutions can be obtained. Many of the meals are freeze-dried, which means they will last up to 10 years and retain their nutritional value. Also, unlike other survival food solutions that require you to grind wheat or employ some other 18th century skill, Food Insurance meals come prepackaged as lasagna, beef stroganoff, and a host of other great entrees. And to top it off, this food comes packaged in a high quality backpack so you can grab it and go.

Insurance is a great idea because it protects us and gives us peace of mind. Why not make sure you and your loved ones are prepared with enough food and water to survive the ever-increasing number of disasters in the world?

Food Insurance Home Food Storage. It makes sense. Stop worrying. Get protected.

$200 for the food. If you want a first aid kit & some tools thrown in, add another $50.

http://www.foodinsurance.com/

Radio clip of Beck saying "There's gonna come a time when people" will "wish they would have listened" to him on food insurance:

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201010150012

The food insurance site says Hannity is hawking it too.

Now, I thought this was crazy. However, I just learned that Monsanto bought Blackwater/Xe.

Quote:
A report by Jeremy Scahill in The Nation (Blackwater’s Black Ops, 9/15/2010) revealed that the largest mercenary army in the world, Blackwater (now called Xe Services) clandestine intelligence services was sold to the multinational Monsanto.

http://beforeitsnews.com/story/215/350/ ... er_Xe.html

So I don't know anymore. Maybe the wingnuts are on to something with this food insurance. :?

From what I've read, Monsanto is using Xe's services for intel gathering, as opposed to buying them.

The Nation article says:

Quote:
One of the most incendiary details in the documents is that Blackwater, through [subisidiary] Total Intelligence, sought to become the "intel arm" of Monsanto, offering to provide operatives to infiltrate activist groups organizing against the multinational biotech firm.

Now, thats still two ebil companies ganging up together in a disturbing manner, but it does not appear that Monsanto have decided they need a private army. I think this is an internet created storm.

Two weeks...pffft that's not gonna be much good when the Zombie Apocalypse strikes. You need at least a one-year supply down in your basement.

Do they also supply freeze-dried water that can be used to regererate their MREs ? Do they add a sufficient supply of matches to heat this stuff ? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

Google doesn't show any reliable reports other than a plethora of conspiracy and far left blogs. Waiting for something more to appear. I guess this would require some sort of SEC disclosure and reports on the regular commerce news sites. What may be a reliable item, is that one of the many Blackwater/Xe offsprings that was already supplying security services to Monsanto, was taken over in full.

It's not that I think having an emergency kit is a bad thing. I know my brother-in-law prepared something that is probably similar to what they're selling for my sister and him when they lived in San Francisco. An earthquake kit or whatever.

Nothing as complete as this. Though Pluto will be happy to know that the LATimes includes toilet paper in their suggested items:

Image

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/earth ... 33.graphic

I'd be seriously up the creek. :? I think my sister and her hub would be too, cuz I know he just had a couple of backpacks.

And for Beck and Hannity to use their fame to frighten people is terrible. They aren't selling it as a natural disaster emergency kit, but as to prepare for the complete collapse of the United States. If you haven't listened to the clip, you might not understand.

I can tell you there seems to be more people who are preparing to such. I see scribd accounts that are full of documents on survival skills. These are the same folks who have documents of Birfistan and similar.

Buy Gold, Seeds and Dry Foods people.

I don't know what all the fuss is about with gold. The folks that own it want you to buy it. It makes them even more money...

Think about this - How much nutrition and how many calories are in a gold bar? After the apopyclipse I don't think anyone will be giving much of a crap about gold. It is going to be a matter of flour and meat, and it ain't gonna be pretty.
