Apparently the cops pretty much left them alone and let them finish their 30 minutes. I hope the cops have a better game plan tomorrow. Staggered stoppages on 4 different arteries sounds like it could be a real nightmare on a regular workday.

Yeah, fighting for freedom is not a bad gig when you just have to drive around for a couple of hours and then knock off for the day WAY before the noon whistle. I could get into that. Well, except for the part about how you get back to the parking lot and ... and spend the rest of the day hanging out in the parking lot. Woot.
The more I learn about this planet, the more improbable it all seems. :confuzzled:

Right-Wing Protesters Carry Out Short-Lived July 4 ‘Attack’ On D.C. Area Highways
NOTHING SAYS FREEDOM LIKE WASTING GAS

Zachary Petrizzo
Politics Reporter
Early Monday morning, members of the right-wing anti-vax group the 1776 Restoration Movement, formerly called The People’s Convoy, launched their “attack” on Washington D.C. highways. The group brought traffic on 95 north and 95 south near exit 198 to a near stop, as they occupied three lanes in both directions. Their leader, David “Santa” Riddell, who was heading up a group on 95 south, proudly stated: “We have literally attacked 270 into Washington, D.C., 7 [sic] into Washington D.C., 95 north into Washington, D.C. and 95 south into Washington, D.C.—all with relatively the same amount of time.” Over on 95 north, Riddell said police officers had threatened the “arrest” of members who continued to obstruct the interstate. The group successfully blocked portions of the highways for 30 minutes Monday morning, but their July 4 activities may not be over yet. Earlier this week, a leader pledged they would also shut down the Washington, D.C. area beltway.

A reminder they're out there today. This convoy was slowly passing Newington on I-95N at 8:50 a.m. This group is now approaching I-66 heading north on the west side of the Beltway. #traffic #vatraffic pic.twitter.com/Z1Ai4OuRWP

Santa's first (only?) stop got completely fucked up. Blockers behind him were supposed to be 5-10 miles behind the first stopping cars. Well, they arrived at the same time. This meant they couldn't shutdown 3 lanes as planned. Traffic is barely affected.

About 20 minutes in, Santa's convoy finally blocks 3 lanes and do slow traffic a bit.

Slightly slowing

gov won't even acknowledge us

There is talk that the group will do this everyday and do so closer and closer to DC each day. I doubt that will happen.

Yes the anti75rm document dump is still planned. More documents were obtained, slowing their release.

Sorry. Santa is not leaving tomorrow.

Frankie Bobbie overslept. No one woke him up and the group left without him.

Today was THE BIG day, and they left him.

I don't know everything that's being shared, and our group wants to keep that part hush hush until things are released. I'm not trying to be a jerk.

Me too. I think LE decided to keep this event as insignificant as possible. Giving tickets and towing vehicles would have tied up the beltway for a long time.

The group has received almost no media coverage today. That's a good thing.

I did my triennial or so rewatch of '1776' (the 1972 movie) last night. To remind myself that the real actors cosplaying patriots at least were amusing and told the story mostly right with only the most minor concessions to screen time and audience intelligence.

And the truth shall ever come uppermost,
And justice shall be done.

I haven't had a chance to watch every police encounter. This group was not treated with kid gloves.

You can't go wrong with Howard DaSilva

Maybe it's not as funny as it used to be ... :oopsy:
