An interesting story on the NBC website about the impact of "citizen redistricting" pushed by Governor Schwarzenegger as an antidote to gerrymandering.

Since Republican pols didn't have sufficient input to save their seats, Democrats could pick up 7 seats in California House races, expanding their representation to 41-12. Seven seats is about one-third of what the Dems need to take back control of the House.

Perhaps having Orly Taitz at the top of the Republican ticket wouldn't be such a bad thing in California.

May I take exception to the word "sufficient"? That the GOP machine couldn't personally monkey around with computer data and gerrymander is not an issue of sufficiency in my mind. Same with the Dems. The Commission might have needed a bit more help, but rating it for its lack of fixing districts based on political motives, they get A+++++ in my mind. (My 2000-2010 State Senate District lumped a long 1/2-mile swath of the Valley all the way beyond Tarzana with the Pasadena area and parts of far away San Gabriel Valley, out to Temple City wherever the hell that is. I was pretty hopping mad about that!)
