Hello, I would love to share my experience; something that I will not forget for rest of my life. Today was a special day for me, and I was preparing for it. It was announced yesterday, March 14, for everyone to receive tickets to see none other than the President of the United States, Barack Obama!

When I got ready to get up the morning at 7 am, I did not rush and took my time since the admission started at 8:30 am. I ate some breakfast and got onto the train to get to Prince George’s Community College. When I got there, there was such a long line and I got so worried that I wouldn’t get a good seat to be able to see my interpreter! How was it possible for me to understand what Obama had to say?! ...

When I got in, I took many videos. What amazed me is that it took two hours to make it just right before Obama started. I did not realize how great of seats there were for us deaf people. Right front of Obama. I sat in VIP with the Governor Martin O’Malley and many other important people. So, it started at about 11. Obama was right front of me. I was ready to jump up and walk toward him and shake his hand. Could you imagine how the Secret Service would’ve responded? When I watched Obama give his speech on the stage I thought to myself, “No way, Obama is not standing right in front of me! Wow!”

If you want to know more about what Obama’s speech was about, you can find out online. I was close enough to touch Martin O’Malley on his shoulder but I didn’t want to bother him. I regret I could have done better holding my camera while talking to Obama. The moment I will never forget was when he looked at me. He gave me a chance to talk to him. It was like he was waiting for me to say something. I took the moment and signed “I am proud of you,” and his response was “Thank u” in sign language back! Oh my gosh! I was like wow! He understood me after I said I was proud of him. It was so amazing…I was just speechless. Right after he thanked me, he smiled at another deaf lady who signed “I love you.” When I shook his hand it did not feel like he was superior to me. He was just a humble man. I am just impressed by him and know that he will have my vote and he will win second term without a doubt. Yeah, I feel safe to have him for another term.

Obama caught on open mic telling Medvedev, "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility."

"After my election..." Republican outrage to follow.

They can suck it. If they didn't want another Obama term, they shouldn't have put on a clown show when a real political party would have put on a primary.

That made me happy because I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to articulate that exact thought for a while now. The best part is, now I can steal it.

Interestingly, I heard Steve Forbes speak to the American Chamber of Commerce here last week, and he predicted that Mitt Romney would win both the primary and the Presidency. He was didn't have much nice to say about Romney, but his hatred for Obama was palpable. He put forth a whole litany "good works" that Republicans have done that have been shot down by the White House, and he feels that the discontent in America is enough that "anyone but Obama" will win the election.

During the lunch prior to his speech, a guy brought up the craziness of the tea partiers, and Forbes said, "for everyone of those crazies, I can name ten good Republican lawmakers who have tried to work with the White House and have been brushed aside. During the Q&A after the talk someone asked again about the teapartiers, Boehner, and other badly behaving Republicans (this guy self-identified as Republican, and AmCham is strongly Republican), and he again re-iterated that the crazies are meaningless. He did have some good thoughts on monetary policy and other economic ideas, but other than that this sounded like a Republican Party pep talk.

The President used the term "Social Darwinism" today to attack the Ryan budget and similar manifestations of Republican ideology. It's not a term that's heard much in common discourse these days, and I imagine Obama gave some thought to the question of reintroducing it.

One of my first reactions was that many of those who are most inclined to champion it are among the least likely to favor biological Darwinism. I'd be interested in hearing other people's reactions.

It would not surprise me if the evangelical dislike for Darwin was factored into the decision to use the term. The Republican leadership has been pushing a radical agenda of class warfare since Obama took office. The more they push this, the easier it is going to be to start to split lower and middle class voters away from the republicans. If playing on the prejudices of the Evangelical right, however subtly, helps that process, it's worth a try.

Colbert's reaction (on twitter):

Obama has called the GOP budget social Darwinism. Nice try, but they believe in social creationism.

The Newton, IA paper has a nice article on the President's visit.
Newton Daily News wrote:
After his speech, Obama met World War II veteran and 90-year-old Jasper County resident Archie Hackney at the end of the rope line. Hackney stood up from his wheelchair to greet the president. After speaking briefly, Obama gave Hackney a salute before exiting the finishing bay.

“I’m pretty proud of this,” Hackney said as he lifted a gold and blue medal in his hand. “It’s his personal medal. I don’t have much to say. I’m just glad I got to meet the president.”

Ahh, Hopey gets to tuck in and croon to his beautiful, sexy and classy wife. Unlike poor Ann Romney, who each night has to oil the Mittbot 2000, and power it down for the night, then go out and yell at the servants.

Sometimes, it's a good life.

Ann has to yell at the servants taking care of the half million dollar dressage horses in Spanish. Or Portugese. 'Cuz, for goodness sake, they're undocumented workers which is the Rmoneys' big sekrit.

This image of the President letting a little boy touch his hair brought tears to my eyes.

If this President doesn't get a second term it will be such a tragedy for all of us.

In a solemn moment at 1 World Trade on Thursday, President Obama placed his hand on the First Lady’s back as they stared silently out a window, pondering the National September 11 Memorial 22 floors below.

“It’s beautiful,” the President said of the two massive fountains that now cover the footprints of the twin towers.

Later, Obama took in the memorial from ground level, and was clearly moved. “You don’t expect how powerful it is until you go down there and hear the sound of it,” he said.

Joined by Gov. Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Mayor Bloomberg, the President and First Lady signed one of the final steel beams that will be added to the tower, which will rise to a symbolic 1,776 feet once completed. In truly presidential fashion, Obama included an inspiring inscription that spoke to the nation as a whole.

Obama Taunting Birthers Again!

When he spoke to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials on Friday, the President spoke of his father and compared his own children to the children of immigrants.

Quote:
"When I meet these young people, all throughout communities, I see myself. Who knows what they might achieve? I see my daughters, and my nieces, and my nephews."

"That's the promise that draws so many talented, driven people to these shores. That's the promise that drew my own father here"

Way to go, Barry! Wave right in their faces that your father came from somewhere else! Rub their noses in the fact that your father was a legal resident here from Kenya on a student visa who married a girl from Kansas and had a son who grew up to be elected President of the United States by 70 million American voters and has served as President for 3-1/2 years but never became a citizen. HA! You win every time you stand at a podium with a seal that says "President of the United States"!

Obama Reprimands Booing Crowd: “Romney is a Patriotic American”

At a Georgia campaign event, the crowd booed at mention of Mitt Romney’s name by Barack Obama. Obama quickly responded: “Mr. Romney is a patriotic American.” When the crowd began to laugh at mention of Romney’s success in life, Obama quieted that too.

It is a touch of respectfulness that the campaign needs from both candidates. Americans are fervently divided over the choices for president. It leads to a poisoned political environment that spills into Congressional, state and local races. When the dislike turns to hatred, the civil nature of any democracy becomes at risk.

This is just a small correction by Obama. Hopefully, he continues to counter any attempts to demonize Romney. The same is true for Romney. In particular, Romney needs to counter some of the laughable conspiracies about Obama from the birthers to those who claim he has had drug-fueled gay encounters.
