The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has a brutal piece on this free-spending fellow, who is a Tea Party favorite. He'll be running against Democratic Governor Nixon.

Congressman Todd Akin will be considered a threat to the re-election of Sen Claire McCaskill. Lt Gov Peter Kinder will not be considered a threat to Gov Jay Nixon's re-election.

Lt Gov Kinder's fundraising totals need to be viewed along those of Gov Nixon's.

In campaign finance reports due Friday, Nixon's campaign will report raising $1.4 million for the quarter. Kinder's reports will show raising just under $1 million.

The race is expected to be expensive. I'll stand by my earlier comment regarding the Lt Gov's prospects for defeating Gov Nixon.

Edit: Nixon has a 14 point lead over Kinder in a recent (May) poll.

Lt Gov Peter Kinder has yet to declare his political intentions for 2012 but keeps raising campaign funds. He hasn't returned the $165k to David Humphreys that Humphreys wants back after Kinder's escapades became public. Kinder is maintaining a low profile (that's quite an accomplishment for him) and hoping someone/anyone will screw up bigger than he did.

My guess is that Gov Jay Nixon is not worried about Kinder's political aspirations. The polls I've seen suggests Missourians aren't concerned either (Nixon +19 in the latest).

It appears that somebody is through waiting for Lt Gov Peter Kinder to decide if he will be running for any political office in 2012. There will probably be more who have decided they have waited long enough.

I won't be surprised to watch Kinder attempt to quietly disappear from public view. Missourians should expect an article soon about Kinder returning to private practice (and spurring the local economy at the neighborhood titty bars) at the conclusion of his term as Lt Gov.

In the last few days Missouri Republicans have been changing their minds about which office, if any, they now want to run for. For a couple of days the big news here was that Republican House Speaker Steven Tilley had abandoned his campaign for Lt Gov.

Friday there was bigger news. Lt Gov Peter Kinder announced he was not running for Governor against Gov Jay Nixon. Instead, Kinder announced he would seek re-election. I have to admit I am surprised (but not disappointed) Kinder is not quietly going back to Cape Girardeau.

Newspaper articles such as this will probably accompany Kinder on the campaign trail.
