Mittens & Mitch! It's the same dynamic as Bush/Cheney, but without the chest pain!

I dunno -- Jeb has been making noises that sound like "well, if you twist my arm ...."

The Bush name is still toxic to many conservatives. Rmoney doesn't want any additional reasons from Republicans to dislike the ticket. He needs to elicit support from the RWNJs; not make them madder he won.

Nah, Jeb doesn't want the whole dynasty label. Plus, as has been said elsewhere on this forum, I am amongst those who think W is back on the bottle again. That's a second deal breaker if true.

Jeb is out.

If he ends up being the Veep nominee, I'll send Stern's housekeeper a brand new set of wooden fpoons.

And a taser.

Have a look at this. Its a rare modern public appearence by Bush. Bush appears at 0:30

www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

Now he has a very red face that they have obviously tried to cover with makeup, and he is a little "unsteady" like someone newly sober. Granted he never was the best public speaker in the world, but he looks off. And thats leaving aside the bright grey suit.

I mean, its total speculation on my part based on a short clip, but the guy looks like hell.

"If the goal is private sector growth, you gotta recognize that the best way to create that growth is to leave capital in the treasuries of the job creators."

Arrrghhh, that is the lie that I hate so much. The "jobs creators" are businesses. Money that's expensed as high salaries does not "leave capital in [their] treasuries," it gives it to rich people to use at their discretion. Unless they are hiring large personal staffs, it does not lead to job creation.

I can't believe this lie has been so widely accepted when it is so easily refuted.

Elizabeth Warren, where are you when we need you?

I dunno gang, looking to me like Rubio may be heading for the VP slot... Made the slip the other day "...If I do a good job as Vice President..." and stumping all week with Romney? :-k

Something tells me his protestations of "I won't accept the VP slot" aren't so set in stone. Thoughts?

In any case, many many laughs to come as we watch birther heads explode if Romney does indeed pick Rubio. Srsly.

I do not see how Rubio will help Rmoney add any votes in the general election. The wealthy Latinos are already in his camp and he will not appeal to the others. Then, you have the double Mormon problem. He would be better off with Huntsman who would bring some moderates instead of choosing a Tea Party favorite. Where's the Tea Party going to go if not for Rmoney and whomever he chooses as a running mate.

We will just have to wait and see what the focus groups have to say.

This crap is just ridiculous...

From Buzzfeed

Document: Marco Rubio's First Communion

The Senator seeks to establish that he left the Mormon faith, and returned to Catholicism, as a 13-year-old in Las Vegas.

Quote:
Senator Marco Rubio's staff is disputing a section of a new biography that suggests that Rubio, as a boy, was a Mormon until the family returned to Miami.

A Rubio spokesman sends over a document to back up the Senator's recollection, is that he returned to the Catholic Church while his family still lived in Las Vegas. The document shows Rubio was baptized into the Catholic Church as a baby in 1971, and given first communion at age 13 in December of 1984.

“The author incorrectly claims that Senator Rubio returned to the Catholic Church after the family moved to Miami and suggests the ‘exact date of their return is in dispute’," spokesman Alex Conant said in an email of the new book, Manuel Roig Franza's "The Rise of Marco Rubio." "In fact, Marco entered preparation courses for communion in 1983 and it is a documentable fact that he received his first communion in Las Vegas on Christmas Day 1984 before the family returned to Miami the next year.”

All of the discussions I've heard amongst the talking heads gloss over the reality of Jeb Bush's circumstance. They mention since his wife is Hispanic and he speaks fluent Spanish, that he would help Rmoney get the Latino vote. They seem to have forgotten that Jeb has spent years estranged from said Latino wife, and there have been all sorts of rumors of extramarital shenanigans about Jeb. The press would have a field day with this; not what Rmoney needs. One commenter did note, however, that Jeb is good at stealing elections. :P

I cannot remember who said this, but they said that Rubio was kind of like Rick Perry  he looks much better on paper than he is in real life. Hey at least if Rmoney picks Rubio, it will stifle all of the jokes about President Obama's ears.

I saw this morning that Miami Herald reported law enforcement was investigating a threat against Marco Rubio. Idunno anything more about that.

also...

Rubio's Grandfather was ordered to be deported in '61.

And I keep seeing tweets saying marco came to U.S. when he was 2. Idunno what that's about? A conspiracy is born?

Picking Portman gives the Republicans several opportunities. They get a right wing conservative who doesn't look quite so right-wing because, as former Ohio Gov Ted Strickland said,"He has good manners. That causes some people to think he’s a little more moderate than he is.” Romney can hide Paul Ryan's anti-99% budget behind a guy with good manners who has Republican executive budget experience. Kasich gets to make a US Senate appointment that will last 6 years if I read Ohio rules correctly.

Sen Rob Portman is listed by the Senate as a Class III Senator (same as Sen Harry Reid). Class I Senators (such as Sen Orrin Hatch) are up for re-election in 2012, Class II Senators in 2014 and Class III Senators in 2016.
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_i ... rs_cfm.cfm

Regardless of state law or a vacancy for any reason, a Class III Senator's term expires in Jan 2017.

That's the same article (by Michael Zak ) that I posted over in the potpourri thead.

Anyway, the birthers are appalled. And Farrar is edumacating everybody in the comments.

And Michael Zak comments (in the thread at the link from Foggy's post):

Quote:
Not to be picky, but you're making up stuff. Only since Rubio became a possible VP nominee has there been serious contention that an American-born U.S. citizen is somehow ineligible. You're alleging to know more about this issue than Abraham Lincoln and most every other statesman in our history. Good luck with that!

So, like I said, he doesn't have any problem with the Forger Birthers. Just don't be talking smack about any Rethug.

It's worth the trip over to see Zak getting a little cranky. :P

(like i said, we've heard of michael zak before. my other comment is here:
