His smile is genuine. Romney's looks ... constipated.

Not sure why I love this photo so:

Partly it’s the spontaneity of the event.  You know that Barack Obama grins broadly into the cellphone camera or other small, amateur electronic camera on the other side.  The people on either side of him grin, too.

Partly it’s the ease with which the President of the United States becomes just Barry posing for pictures when people ask him to.

Partly it’s the completely unexpected nature of the happenstance photo.  Were it posed, the flags would be bigger, posted correctly; the hand sanitizer would be moved out of the way.  Were it posed, the notices under the mints for sale would be moved, so the camera could see the other side.

I like the young lady's hand in that photo. She's kinda tentatively touching him with fingertips only, not like the older lady with her hand firmly on his hip.

The young lady is thinking, "OMG, I'm touching the President!"

Jacob spoke first.

“I want to know if my hair is just like yours,” he told Mr. Obama, so quietly that the president asked him to speak again.

Jacob did, and Mr. Obama replied, “Why don’t you touch it and see for yourself?” He lowered his head, level with Jacob, who hesitated.

“Touch it, dude!” Mr. Obama said.

As Jacob patted the presidential crown, Mr. Souza snapped.

“So, what do you think?” Mr. Obama asked.

“Yes, it does feel the same,” Jacob said.

(ok, not campaign ... but one of my all time favorites )

Maybe she was considering doing this?

I observed sumfin interesting when I saw the First Lady. After her speech when she meeted and greeted the folks around the ropeline, when she would reach out to hug someone, the Secret Service did not allow them to hug her back. When someone, man or woman or young person, would start to put their hands on her or arms around her, anything other than shake hands, the Secret Service agent grabbed their wrists and pulled their arms away and it wasn't always gentle.

That's standard procedure on a rope-line with a large crowd in attendance. They do the same with Barack. The Secret Service just doesn't know who these spectators are or what their intentions might be. It's not a controlled environment and I am sure being tasked with a rope-line meet-n-greet is a duty that makes the Secret Service very nervous.

I have personally seen Obama and Biden being hugged on a rope line. What I saw with Michelle was noticeably different.

I bet some not very nice people have made their not very nice feelings about FLOTUS abundantly clear to the Secret Service.

Man, he really likes kids, doesn't he?

Do you think he might have wanted a son too? ;)

There is something there that just can't be faked. I do love those photos of him with children and with the elderly, too; he has a genuine compassion that shines through in every shot. This isn't PR and it isn't an act. Throughout the years I've seen plenty of photos of politicians mingling with the common folk, but with President Obama it's different. It's palpable. He truly cares and it shows.

It's never too late.

Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama, III has a nice ring to it.

To me he is the first president, more than Clinton, who is "one of us". He could go from a Joint Chiefs' meeting to a pick up Bball game without changing his suit.

Look at the trajectory of his life just since Harvard...did he join a white shoe firm? No, he did not. Did he work with his community? Why, yes he did.

He does care. That's why the fury from the right AND, sadly, the left is disturbing to me. They don't see him, just that he's not doing what they think he should be.

*Heavy sigh*

I think the difference is that Obama went to work in Chicago with those who had needs. I don't believe that either Clinton did something similar.
