A Washington Post account details the six years Mitt Romney spent at the all-boys Cranbrook prep school.

Religion was not much of an issue for the students. There was mandatory chapel time on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they sang Episcopalian hymns and the school song, “Forty Years On,” but it was studiously nondenominational. The campus’s elegant Christ Church had a Star of David, an Islamic crescent, and Yin and Yang sign above its wooden door. The Mormon Romney joined Jews and Protestants on Cranbrook’s Church Cabinet, which focused on community service.

Shaun Winkler, a white supremacist in Idaho running as a Republican for Bonner County sheriff, is defending his recent cross burning ceremony, after having invited members of the media to attend the event last week.

"Mainstream society looks at cross lighting as a symbol of hate, but it predates the Klan by hundreds of years," Winkler told the Bonner County Daily Bee. "We look at it more as a religious symbol."

Winkler went on to claim the ritual has Scottish roots dating back hundreds of years, but his status as a Ku Klux Klan imperial wizard and his candid admissions of racial and religious prejudice suggest that the decision to burn the cross may take inspiration from a more recent and ugly practice.

One former classmate and old friend of Romney’s – who refused to be identified by name – said there are “a lot of guys” who went to Cranbrook who have “really negative memories” of Romney’s behavior in the dorms, behavior this classmate describes as “like Lord of the Flies.”
The classmate believes Romney is lying when he claims to not remember it.
“It makes these fellows [who have owned up to it] very remorseful. For [Romney] not to remember it? It doesn’t ring true. How could the fellow with the scissors forget it?” the former classmate said.

The only reason to believe that he actually doesn't remember such an incident is that it was only one of many such incidents. As someone who endured similarly motivated violent assaults in high school it is quite plausible to me that my tormentors don't remember every single one of their crimes as they committed them with such frequency. The ugly truth here is that the alpha males of high school often attain that status on the foundation of a solid record of cruelty. Everything in his subsequent career strongly suggests that Mitt Romney is and always has been a very entitled man willing to trample anybody who stands in the way of his ascent. Such people often do well in this society and he would not be the first one to occupy the White House.

How could Mitt forget it?

Easy. The same way he forgets his values.

He's not a flip flopper. He's a baldfaced, opportunistic, valueless LIAR.

He has no conscience. When backed into a corner, he offers up lame rationalizations that no one can truly believe. He lies about things that don't really matter. His demeanor is cold, humorless, desperate and just plain mean. I think he is mentally ill. Seriously.

Rachel Maddow did a great piece on this tonight, showing examples of how every time he was asked about the incidents, he laughed. Then examples of him doing the same when asked about the dog incident and regarding his dad closing a plant in Minnesota.

All of which are just hilarious.

To the dual citizens holding security clearance question.... I'm a dual US/Canadian citizen and while in the Navy held a Secret and later, Top Secret clearance and was in the Personnel Reliability Program (Nuclear Weapons Clearance). Then again, what risk is a Canadian, we could have over-run the US at any time.
