We also averaged 296.6 posts per day.

143 registered members have logged in over the past 24 hours.

There were about 50 people in R.C.'s chat room last night during the radio show.

Cool! If you've got a blog, what is most important, new visitors? returning visitors? I guess I should ask what means successful forum for you, Foggy?

Congrats on the success of TFB, Foggy. \:D/

BTR is still not showing the stats on the show last night. I will check later today. If there were that many in chat I probably had over 100 live listeners. It is usually about 2:1.

Yeah, what's more important is going to depend on the overall goal. If you are more interested in being used as a source of information by people just hearing about something, you want new visitors. If you are more interested in building a community, returning visitors is important.

Actually, you want both. You want new lifeblood, and you want both new and existing members to return again and again.

It's a good thing to have a thriving community. For that to happen, you need to attract new people on a continuing basis. Inevitably, there is always some ongoing attrition. When Politijab began, it quickly developed into a great, thriving community (despite my initial expectations). But if I made a list of all the wonderful contributors from those early days who eventually drifted away for one reason or another, it would be lengthy. It would also make me haz a sad.

Then I kinda got sucked into running Fogbow. I won't rehash the past. I never had any real desire to be moderator or admin of a forum. I was asked to fill those roles at PJ, and I agreed to help. Then a situation developed that required some sort of solution or things were going to fall apart, and the best solution I could see was for me to create Fogbow. It's a lot of work, but I've made a commitment to it. Since the day Fogbow came online, I have worked hard to improve it. My 9 year old son said the other day, "You must be really proud of what you've built." Yes, I'm proud of my creation. I'm also humbled by the great people I get to pal around with.

We've been very lucky so far. We have constantly attracted a new stream of great contributors, and we have kept a core group. We have quite a number of members who don't post often (or at all, some of them), but who log in daily and monitor recent developments in Birtherstan.

The stats are really just a nerdy thing. I'm not even 100% sure I understand them. I think I can legitimately claim that I've had more than 1.2 million "hits" over the past three months. Beyond that, maybe Uncle Spike or somebody who really knows about web stats will interpret the charts for us. I'm just glad that things are going well. And as I mentioned in another thread, this here political junkie is just SO excited to be part of this great community with another presidential election just over the horizon.

I know! Huh? :-?

Congrats Foggy. But no posts from Kenya? :shock: Those NWO folks who planted the Manchurian Candidate in 1961, aren't following his progress here?

RC- Do you have stats such as how many people download the podcast of RC Radio, whether from iTunes or elsewhere? (I subscribe through iTunes)

The stats are not as detailed. I get a total for each show including callers, live listens, and downloads. The total number of live listens and downloads for all shows is almost 20,000. The number of listeners varies a lot for each show. One of the Lakin CM shows with Dwight Sullivan and Phil Cave had 150 live listeners and has been downloaded 250 times. (I think it was the one Gerogetown JD hosted for me if that tells you anything ;) ). The past week with TIm Adams had 125 listeners and over 100 archive downloads so far. The show with Rev. Manning had well over 500 downloads last time I checked.

I am not sure if the people who listen from the MP3 player from TFB are counted. I think they are.

It just dawned on me that we weren't a community in 2008. All I had was OC to feed my ebil, evil obot soul (and McCain's forum which was quite fun if you're ebil :evil: ).

2012 is going to be fun!

Ireland is lumped in with "United Kingdom," sad to say. :P

Bumping up an old thread, so old my 9 year old in the post above is now 10½.

I run a program called CrawlTrack that gathers stats on Fogbow. Here's May (click to enlarge):

The number of visitors vs unique visitors looks odd to me. Is this based on IP addresses?

If the Republic of Ireland is really merged with the United Kingdom in these stats, that is stupid. Somebody missed a substantial chunk of Irish and British history.

I dunno. Not a webmaster. Well, I am, but forced by circumstances and not very expert at it.

Here's another set of stats for May from my hosting company, HostGator. This is called Webalizer, and as with ALL large graphics now on Fogbow, you can click the graphic to see the full size:

Well, I have a world map shower curtain, made in China, that shows Taiwan and China as being one country. Which, I understand, is politically correct in both countries, but not necessarily accurate in the real world. But I agree with you.

Here's the list of the top 30 countries that connect to Fogbow. Actually, my screen was only big enough to show 29. The 30th country was Romania.

I've always believed Suranis when he told us he lived in Ireland, with all those photos and stuff. If Ireland isn't part of United Kingdom, then where the heck is that consarn frickin' frackin' varmint posting from? :shock:

Maybe Unresolved/Unknown? Do we really know where Ireland is? Some interesting "countries" there, huh?

Based on the contents of that "Country" column, it looks like the determination is based on a reverse DNS lookup of the client's IP address. That would explain the entries like "Network", e.g.

.net = network
.com = u s commercial
.gov = u s government
.edu = u s education
.mil = u s military
.ca = canada
.mx = mexico

Note that this is does not accurately identify the actual location. for example, many non-us businesses registered .com addresses.

There are more precise ways of getting the country associated with an IP address (e.g. whois) but nothing is perfect. Web stats aren't rocket science DNS lookup is easier and usually good enough to get an idea of where your users are. Well, except for those in Ireland. Suranis, does your internet provider domain name end in ".ie"?

I used to have a program called StatCounter that generated a ton of accurate stats. Brian, who originally created Politijab, used that one, and I kind of followed his lead when I started Fogbow. But it worked by embedding an itty bitty script on every page and some members allowed as how it was slowing down the board response time, so I junked it.
