I ran across this little trick last night. It worked for me.

Type or paste about:config in address window.

Accept the warning and be careful.

At the top of the list page that comes up, in the Search box, paste: network.http.spdy.enabled

Right click and Toggle the search result so the Value becomes "True"

Restart Firefox

That's it.

According to industry blogs, SPDY will be enabled by default in Firefox 13 (now in beta testing). Some information dating back to Firefox 11: SPDY Brings Responsive and Scalable Transport to Firefox 11.

Thanks, Addy...I'm assuming this will help folks like me who can't seem to be real tidy about closing down tabs or opening too many at a time?

I don't know about you, but I've had about enough of the speed dial on Firefox 13 ?(

From C-Net:

Quote:
Step 1: In the Firefox address bar, type about:config and hit Enter.

Step 2: When the warranty warning appears, click on the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.

Step 3: Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.

Step 4: Double-click on the preference name, then change the string value from about:newtab to about:blank. Click OK to save.

I use SpeedDial extensively (three screens worth of windows). Are you finding that it slows down browsing or is flaky?

Slows it down and jerks it around. On my computer (on Linux) Firefox 13 is much smoother without it, Tollie.

Thanks. I have not found that to be true on Windows 7 Pro, but perhaps others have.

These things have a way of improving over time. I can wait it out. Without speed-dial, FF 13 is doing well for me, so my temper has cooled. ;;)

I don't use the internal speed dial for Firefox (or in my case Waterfox) 13. I use the speed dial extension and I have been happy enough with it to not to turn it off.

I am also using the external SpeedDial extension. Frankly, I was not aware that Firefox 13 has an internal speed dial.

Yeah, the 3rd party SpeedDial is wonderful. I have that, so I haven't seen the new Firefox one. They install a version by default in Opera, too.

Those of you running 64 bit operating systems should check out Waterfox. It is Firefox designed for the 64 bit systems.

WATERFOX info/download (for 64 bit systems)

V 13 works very well on my Win7 64 bit system. =D> =D

So before disabling the blasted thing, my CPU was running at 100% this morning. I'm on KDE and I know that system uses more juice than others, but 100% was scary. It's been 50% and below, usually 20-30% for the afternoon. Me and the CPU, we're much happier  but I'm thinking a return to FF 12, which had none of this misbehavior, might do me good.

OK, why didn't y'all tell me about the FF extension Autopager? [-X

Seriously, this thing was made for reading The Fogbow. They have a Chrome version too.

I was going to post that the down side is that it cuts off the bottom of the page except on the very last page. If you use "View new posts" instead of "View active optics" that only returns one page. It is a good tradeoff for me to be able to scroll through several pages with the wheel. Where it works well is scrolling through search results quickly or searching through a long topic for a particular post.

I could have sworn that this was built into basic Chrome at some point. Did they take it out?

Because FastestFox 4.7.8 does the same thing and a lot more?

I looked at the features in Fastest Fox and I would not use half of them. I think I stick with the single-tasker.

The closest option on mine seems to be "Pin as App Tab."

Is that what you're talking about? What does it do?

I use it for Fogbow religiously.

It pins your tab on the far left, in a smaller tab with only the favicon showing, but it stays pinned, even if you quit Firefox and restart it hours -- or days -- later. Very convenient, and Zorbas does what I do, makes it the Active Topics list. But if you accidentally go to Orly's on the App Tab, you can either "unpin" it or just use the Back button.
