Merry Christmas to one and all!

The duck is roasting merrily in the oven as I type, and I shall soon embark on preparing two types of potatoes, the spiced red cabbage and gravy to go with it. As well as pick out the first christmas beer of the evening.

And a sure sign that it's Christmas in Denmark? Church was completely filled to the rafters, 20 minutes before the second service of the afternoon was due to begin. Danes may ignore the church in their everyday life, but sure as heck not on Christmas Eve! :)

Merry, Merry Christmas (or other winter holiday of your choice) to all of you.

It's a real privilege to be a part of this great group of people. Six years down the road, I still think we have one of the best groups anywhere to be found on the Intartoobz.

I hope all Fogbowzers enjoy the holiday as much as I plan to; four straight days of eating, games and relaxing.

Merry Christmas to all! And to all, a good night. Also, too, I wish you all a wonderful 2015.

Carols from Kings* is on my telly, the wine is poured, the candles are lit and the presents are wrapped. I have no cooking to do as I am going to my daughter's for lunch tomorrow, and I've been told in no uncertain terms I am just to turn up and eat, drink and play games with no work to do whatsoever.

Our Games4TV Christmas Open House is now on, all the way through New Years' Day.

Come on over during the holidays and check us out, and if you know of someone who would appreciate what we do, I would love it if you would introduce them (we have gift certificates, too). If you'd like to know more about the benefits beyond just the enjoyment of playing, check out my Net4TV Guides article, My Dad, and Why We Created Games4TV.

Our 2014 Games4TV Advent Calendar also will remain open through New Years Day, with movies and concerts and lots of other goodies too.

You are invited! Merry Christmas to all!

She is an angel. I've always had Christmas at my house, but this year I'm about to move house so all my stuff is in storage and the place is in chaos.

My eldest son is now living in the USA and the flight prices are ridiculous, so he's coming home for second Christmas in January when the prices return to normal. My second son is working Christmas day (double time plus time off in lieu) and my youngest son, his partner and their baby are spending most of the day with her parents. So my daughter has stepped in and is going to host the day at her house. We have Scrabble, Dr Who Monopoly, Cards Against Humanity, Trivial Pursuit and Settlers of Catan, plus whatever games might be handed over as presents. - it ought to be great fun!

Santa called, he'd prefer to have bacon fat popcorn this year if it's not too much trouble.

Silent Night: The Story of the World War I Christmas Truce of 1914

Exactly a century ago, the men in the trenches heard something unusual: singing

On a crisp, clear morning 100 years ago, thousands of British, Belgian and French soldiers put down their rifles, stepped out of their trenches and spent Christmas mingling with their German enemies along the Western front. In the hundred years since, the event has been seen as a kind of miracle, a rare moment of peace just a few months into a war that would eventually claim over 35 million lives. But what actually happened on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 1914 — and did they really play soccer on the battlefield?

Pope Benedict XV, who took office that September, had originally called for a Christmas truce, an idea that was officially rejected. Yet it seems the sheer misery of daily life in the cold, wet, dull trenches was enough to motivate troops to initiate the truce on their own — which means that it’s hard to pin down exactly what happened. A huge range of differing oral accounts, diary entries and letters home from those who took part make it virtually impossible to speak of a “typical” Christmas truce as it took place across the Western front. To this day historians continue to disagree over the specifics: no one knows where it began or how it spread, or if, by some curious festive magic, it broke out simultaneously across the trenches. Nevertheless, some two-thirds of troops — about 100,000 people — are believed to have participated in the legendary truce. <SNIP>

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope the season keeps you and yours. And may 2015 be everything you hope.

I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.
