After being kept alive for days following a fight with officers in one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s jails, a Latino military veteran died late Tuesday when he was taken off life support by doctors at a Phoenix hospital, his family’s attorney tells TPM.

Ernest “Marty” Atencio was 44. He was injured early Friday morning, just hours after the Justice Department accused the Arizona sheriff of running an agency that regularly violates the rights of Latinos.

“His entire family was by his bedside when he passed,” the family’s attorney, Mike Manning, said. His parents, two brothers and three sons were there to make the decision.

Atencio had been taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition with injuries from the fight. Doctors later determined he had been shocked at least four times with a Taser, according to Manning.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office tells TPM it will release a video as soon as today showing officers struggling with a Latino military veteran who later died of his injuries.

“It should be today sometime,” sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Justin Griffin said of the video Thursday morning. Griffin said he planned to release copies to the media after detectives gave him one.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has been refusing to release the video for days, saying the investigation was still ongoing. It even refused to give a copy to the Phoenix Police Department, which was simultaneously investigating the fight because its officers originally arrested Atencio and were involved in the altercation.

“There is no reason why they cannot release that video,” attorney Mike Manning said earlier this week. “We’re concerned about it being destroyed. Because that’s what the sheriff’s office always does in cases like this…We want that digital video released right away.”

In my [Taitz's] opinion, if Jan Brewer had any back bone, she would make an announcement, that the citizens of the state of Arizona should stop paying federal taxes, as the federal government stopped providing services to the citizens of Arizona, services that they were supposed to provide contractually.

This organization, this Union, is de facto, a contractor, which charged a lot of money and did not perform according to contract: the borders are porous and not protected, the post office is broke and the scoundrels in the Federal government turned US dollar into toilet paper. If Jan Brewer were to hold a referundum and let her citizens know, that they work four months every year to pay for the federal government and get nothing in return, they will overwhelming vote to get out of the union, not work for four months in a year to pay federal taxes, but to work only one or two months in a year for the state taxees, the citizens of Arizona will overwhelmingly vote to get out of the union and let the state government perform all the functions.

We know, that the elections are totally rigged. No matter, how we vote we get the same corrupt bought and paid for puppets like Obama, who are sending all of American manufacturing abroad by dismantling all the tariffs. They are intentionally bankrupting this nation and destroying its’ national security, as their goal is the North American Union and New World Order, to create one huge pot of money to steal from with impunity, with no real rights for the citizens.

Just calling the referendum in one state, like the state of AZ, would send chills down the spines of the scoundrels in the federal government. They will know, that one state seceding from the union, will create an avalanche of seceding states. Those states might form one new union or several unions, but one important thing, is that the scoundrels in Washington will be out of work. We have seen such corrupt unions dismantling. Soviet Union came apart, so did Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. People and individual states can chose to dismantle a union and build a new union, if the government in the old union became too bloated and corrupt. I do not know, if we will need to go as far as dismantling the union, but just calling a referendum would be a good start to send a message.

Please, let’s start a petition to the governor of AZ to schedule a referendum. I need volunteers to help me with this petition.

Exactly; 30% of the population would vote for a ham sandwich over Feinstein.

America's self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff" has been dealt another setback to his immigration enforcement efforts by a federal judge's ruling that bars deputies from detaining people based solely on the suspicion that they're in the country illegally.

The ruling issued Friday sets the stage for a possible trial in a lawsuit that alleges racial profiling in the patrols in Arizona's Maricopa County, and would further limit Sheriff Joe Arpaio's immigration authority after Washington yanked his federal powers earlier this month.

Lawyers pushing the lawsuit on behalf of five Latino clients also won class-action status that lets other Hispanics join the case if they have been detained and questioned by Arpaio's deputies as either a driver or passenger in a vehicle since January 2007.

U.S. District Judge Murray Snow hasn't yet ruled on the ultimate question of racial profiling, but notes the case's evidence could lead a judge or jury to conclude that Arpaio's office racially profiles Latinos.

There's also creepy footage (not seen above) of Atencio being thrown naked into an isolation cell. In it, Atencio is not moving, and looks to be unconscious.

The scene in the cell is eerily reminiscent of MCSO video of Juan Farias Mendoza, an inmate allegedly beaten to death by detention officers in Arpaio's jails back in 2007.

Has the autopsy report been released? Do we have a cause of death and perhaps non-contributing injuries?

I'm not defending Joe's gestapo, but it looks to me like this guy was putting up a hell of a struggle. The video doesn't show what any of the officers may or may not have done to him during the struggle because we can't see the victim with everyone piled on top him.
