I have fond memories of a broken sliding glass door and no power for two weeks after, from Hugo. (Although, having experienced both, I'd rather do a hurricane than an earthquake any day.)

85 degrees and sunny here in La La Land. (Sorry.)

It's now 50 degrees here, and partially sunny. Winds are gusting at 23 mph.
Life on the Upper West Side continues apace, albeit a bit quieter on the street with the lack of subway rumbling beneath the street And, with the starbucks on Broadway/87th being inundated with caffeine deprived residents, and kids on their way to Halloween Parties in their costumes.

This is FlatPoint High, reporting from the Upper West Side.

Hi Flatpoint... from my daughter, I can report that denizens of Bed Stuy in Brooklyn were also able to weather the storm with little inconvenience, no loss of power, nor interruption of internet or cable. Local markets are open, so the stockpile of candy bars and bathtub filled with water were not needed. Of course, going to work at her midtown Manhattan location was out of the question. My daughter's significant other, who has a job requiring frequent travel, is also in town & with her, so I imagine that the 2 young 20-somethings managed to figure out other ways to occupy their time as well -- at least until he flies out again tomorrow.

Heh, not me. I'm definitely living in the right place. After living through three hurricanes and a tornado in VA, I'll take the shake, rattle and roll any day.

At least with an earthquake, there's a good chance the weather is still nice. I think of an earthquake as "instant camping".

Loma Prieta wasn't really camping weather. If I remember it was hot that day and the next, but then it got cooler. I'm talking Oakland where the bulk of the damaged buildings were.

Northridge was in January. The temps were down to the low 40s at night. That's cold for Angelenos.

In case anyone was concerned, I, too, survived Frankenstorm. I took Mitt's advice offered to those potentially effected and went to my 2nd (or is it 3rd or maybe 5th?) home.

I'm not sure why so many Americans did not heed the Wannabe-President. 8-)

I was on BART when the quake hit. Yes, underground during an earthquake. Joy.

Is this the right time to mention we here in Missouri have been in a drought for approximately the past year?

You mean you didn't store up some water from all that flooding you just had? Straight from flood to drought? I am it must be God's Will to such terrible successive plagues. The Book of Job will surely get you through if Akin and Mourdock are to be believed. :( :-? :(

Salmagundi! It's always something.
