This is a pretty good place to find recommendations. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/ne ... 4283.story

But I would go to Green Town, IL, and try some Dandelion Wine.

My grandparents used to make it. Yuck. Now try some May wine. Michigan has it. That's interesting stuff.

BTW GreenTown is a secret sundown town.

Bob Welch, Ex-Fleetwood Mac Guitarist, Commits Suicide

Late musician also found success as a solo artist after leaving the band in 1974.

By Kara Warner (@karawarner)

Bob Welch, a former member of "Fleetwood Mac," was found dead in his home in Nashville on Thursday (June 7) from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Nashville police, Welch shot himself in the chest, and his body was discovered by his wife around noon. The police told WKRN-TV, Nashville's local ABC station, that Welch had been suffering from health issues recently and that he left a suicide note.

A huge voice in L.A. and America for progressive politics in Israel. Like Orly, a Jewish immigrant from Eastern Europe, although Arthur was a Holocaust survivor as well. Why his experiences made him what he is and her what she is, says a lot about the human character's potential for good and evil.

A really, really good guy.

A Library Degree

The great science fiction writer Ray Bradbury, who died this week, never went to college and considered himself "completely library educated." In a Paris Review interview from a few years ago, he talked about his self-education:

Quote:
I discovered me in the library. I went to find me in the library. Before I fell in love with libraries, I was just a six-year-old boy. The library fueled all of my curiosities, from dinosaurs to ancient Egypt. When I graduated from high school in 1938, I began going to the library three nights a week. I did this every week for almost ten years and finally, in 1947, around the time I got married, I figured I was done. So I graduated from the library when I was twenty-seven. I discovered that the library is the real school.

From the White House via the Wall Street Journal

Quote:
Ray Bradbury, author of such books as “The Martian Chronicles” and “Fahrenheit 451,” has died at 91. Mr. Bradbury was awarded the National Medal of Arts award in 2004 by President George W. Bush and Laura Bush, shown at right, “for his incomparable contributions to American fiction as one of its great storytellers who, through his explorations of science and space, has illuminated the human condition.”

Here is the White House statement released Wednesday on the news of Mr. Bradbury’s death.
Quote:
Statement by the President on the Passing of Ray Bradbury

For many Americans, the news of Ray Bradbury’s death immediately brought to mind images from his work, imprinted in our minds, often from a young age. His gift for storytelling reshaped our culture and expanded our world. But Ray also understood that our imaginations could be used as a tool for better understanding, a vehicle for change, and an expression of our most cherished values. There is no doubt that Ray will continue to inspire many more generations with his writing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Professor Elinor Ostrom, the only woman to claim the Nobel Prize in Economics, died of cancer today at age 78, Indiana University is reporting.

Ostrom shared the 2009 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, also known as the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, with University of California economist Oliver Williamson. She won for her groundbreaking research on the ways that people organize themselves to manage resources.

Ostrom died at IU Health Bloomington Hospital "surrounded by friends," the university says. She was senior research director of IU's Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis,

Elinor kept plugging to the very end. As of 3-4 weeks ago, she was scheduled to speak last Thursday at a symposium in Ann Arbor. Then she had to cancel. She had also agreed to a Chapel Hill speaking date a little later (and maybe to others). She did not ever give up. Her work is an outstanding legacy.

It is one of the strongest contributors to answering the question that I have been asking professionally for several decades: "Who has the right to do what with the land for how long?" The concept of absolute, perpetual property rights is part of the core of our environmental dilemmas. The laws are being reworked in the wrong direction, mostly by RWNJ's masquerading as lawmakers. However, Bill Clinton gave in quite a lot, too. See the "land swap" in Crown Butte Mines Inc. plans for Yellowstone National Park.

I rarely have any empathy for people convicted of domestic violence, but Rodney King was a tragic figure in many ways.

I believe he is the 3rd of Dr. Drew's reality TV victims to die. :(

He just stroked out...but is still technically alive.

Edit: Murbarak suffers multiple strokes
Quote:
Egypt’s state news agency said former President Hosni Mubarak is "clinically dead" after multiple strokes, but a lawyer for Mubarak told NBC News early Wednesday that the ousted leader was clinging to life.

Mubarak, 84, had reportedly suffered multiple strokes and heart failure and...
